I don't have that problem yet, but just stick something in between the landing gear and the side of the hole.

I had that problem on the vintage Y-wing. I had to open mine up to see how the mechanism worked. IIRC, the landing switch is connected to a slide that isn't locking inside the vehicle. The slide is hollowed out through the middle, but it may be spread out a bit too wide to lock securely onto the locking tab to keep the gears secure. I fixed mine by squeezing the sides of the slide a little closer.

GNT, wouldn't it just be cheaper to get an American friend to buy this and ship it to you? I'm sure if you made all your exclusive purchases at once, you could save a bit of coin. Is the TIE Interceptor an exclusive there also?

You would think, but shipping internationally is quite expensive.

Possibly if it was alot of items to make the shipping worthwhile. Another Aussie he mentioned he got it cheaper from Ebay from America so I guess it pays to hunt around. Either that or wait for a huge sale

GNT - what happened in aussie? Even Hong Kong (Which is pretty close) sells got around 60USD. I think you should ask this to Aussie Hasbro Department.

Re: Y-Wing

i just got my y wing yesterday, I LOVE IT!!!!! best y wing to date! i had the OTC one a while ago but sold it when i knew this was coming out. i hadnt been collecting SW for a while, but somehow got sucked back into it. and since i only really get OT stuff (ok, and TFU stuff but thats more EU and looks cool) i felt i had to get the y wing. i feel bad i missed on the target tie bomber, but i never saw it anyway so that was weird. anyway, picked up the y wing, and wow, not only is it the movie accurate color, but the weathering on it, its amazing! looks like the REAL ship from the movie, all dirty and its got the red in the flames and its unique because of the R4 unit instead of yet another R2 unit. i just am very very impressed, and the pilot and R4 it comes with are an incredible bonus, now i am hooked on getting as many rebel pilots as possible, maybe possibly do some "rogue squadron" stuff.

By the way, has anyone had problems with the rear landing gear sagging over time? We always place this on my son's dresser at night, and I remember at first it looked perfect, just like in A New Hope with all the fighters in Yavin base. However, slowly, over time, it appears as though the rear landing gear are losing strength and tend to recess somewhat back into the nacelle, giving the appearance that the Y-Wing is nosing slightly up. Is this just mine, or has anyone else seen this happen?

If it's not just me, has anyone figure out a way to fix this, like unscrewing the Y-Wing and adjusting something internally?

no you are not the only one with this problem. same happened with my OTC one, before i sold it. it started to sag RIGHT AWAY almost. however,. i just got the new y wing and right now, it is standing perfectly straight, and seems to be standing VERY strong and firm, and there doesnt seem to be any weakness to it at all. whther it will start sagging over time, i dont know, but right now, its absolutly perfect.

Oh, now I don't feel so bad. My rear landing feet on my Y-Wing started sagging about 3 days after I took it out of the box on Christmas. After about a month I just retracted the gear and stored it like that. My front gear is pretty flimsy too.

Still beats my vintage Y-Wing...the rear feet are fine but the front gear has been damaged and is totally disconnected from the switch! I have to jam tissue paper inside it to make it stand right.

I always loved the Y-Wing fighter. It was my favorite vehicle as a kid (the only vintage vehicle I kept from my youth!) and remains my favorite.

I was thrilled to pick up a re-issued version with a updated paint-job. It looks great!

However... I am slightly bummed to see the vintage mold used again. I would love to see the Y-Wing re-released in the same scale as the Dagobah X-Wing fighter.

The vintage Y-Wing mold looks really dinky next to the Dagobah X-Wing. Still, a great vehicle to have!

it doesnt look too small next to my dagobah x wing, i always imagined the y wing was a tad smaller then the x wing anyway. the weathering on the fighter looks amazeing though, i think this is the best the y wing has ever looked.

The back landing gear of my y-wing is weak and when i put it down, the back just sinks down. Several people have ahd this problem, and I don't want to stick something next to the gear. I've opened the whole thing up already and can't find out why its broken.

IIRC, the problem is with the clamps inside which slightly open-up when the weight of the ship forces the locking bar on the landing gear to go back through* the slot between the clamp.

The trick is to keep the clamps staying together (parallel) when the gears are deployed. Either a rubber band or strong twist tie should help wrapped around the clamp which holds the landing gear in place.

*edited for correction - the clamp runs horizontally, not vertically IIRC, it's been a while.

Sometime, I really need to crack open my Y-Wing's frame to see why it sags. If it's an easy fix, I'm all for it.

I've heard that alot of people have had problems with the Y-wing. I kept mine boxed though. The preparation for the battle of Yavin pic behind it gave da real diorama look also the battery charger cardboard piece that was on the ground. It just looks real nice in the box.

Man, I'm really ticked at myself. I didnt buy this, because I already have a Y-Wing, but I really want Lepira and his droid. So I was bidding on a Lepira on Ebay and set my high price at 7 bucks because nobody had bid yet. With 4 min to go still no bites, so I went and had some dinner, only to find out Lepira sold for 7.50.

Damn my stomach!!!!!!!

Stumbled on a boxed Y-Wing at a comic shop in Illinois this weekend. The box was beat up but they sold it to me for 35.00! I really want the ship and my daughter can add the droid to our collection. Great find as the Y-Wing is my favorite all time SW vehicle.

I don't think your stomach is much to blame as these Ebay sneaks who like to beat bidders by a dime at the last minute. But if anything, having dinner by the computer helps unless your trying to set an example to the family by eating at the table.

Just got around to opening one of these and I noticed an out of place ship in the background hangar scene. On the right hand side mostly in shadow there is what looks like a B-wing. I skimmed the thread and didn't see any mention of this. Does anyone know what ship this is supposed to be?

Yeah, at first glance, it looks like a B-Wing, but I'm thinking it's a Y-Wing at an angle with it's canopy opened and a turret above the cockpit.

Yups, that's definitely a Y-Wing in the immage, put in at a rather cool angle too.

I got it this week, and opened it today.

The pilot has horrible arms, but he's not coming back out of the cockpit for additional play

Sorry to revive an old thread, but this was still near the top on the front page.

Going through some old posts, I've seen a few members here dremel out the droid on this Y-wing. It was done very well and I wanted to give it a go, having just bought a dremel myself. I've got some practice under my belt, I've already been turning old figure heads into a ball-joint neck. I bought a used one on ebay, just the body of the ship for real cheap. I couldn't get the cuts right, the dremel kept skipping and would sometimes hit other parts of the ship. I just didn't feel comfortable doing it on the one I had. You could see afterwards all the cuts from the dremel, it would have looked obvious.

Tonight I had an idea. On the spare Y-wing I took a flathead screwdriver and easily popped the astro off. Just place the screwdriver right under the silver ring. You will need the silver ring, as that is the part that clips into place. Taking my dremel, I cut where the silver squares are on the "neck", just above the silver ring. Keep going around until you're able to just pull it apart.

Then I filed down the silver ring where it was cut off, so it would be even. Lastly I superglued it to the underside of the red R5 unit's head. The R5 head is from Disney's Build-A-Droid line. I let it set, then afterwards you can pop it back on, and it still rotates like normal.

I still have to clean up the area a bit around the neck. I just wanted to share, with this being another means of swapping out the astro.
