Why doesn’t TOMY INC. Take on a Disney License for Star Wars Diecast?

So I am curious, these guys TOMY INC are milking it (way over 4 million US dollars in orders already), with the Star Trek USS Enterprise Refit model, which I have ordered by the way like many others.

So why don’t they take up a Disney License as well?

The Code-3 Collectibles in diecast were amazing, imagine what TOMY INC can do with their 100 years experience with Diecast models?

Is it because Disney is harder to deal with than Paramount?

Conflict of interest and Paramount would not agree that TOMY INC hold a Disney license as well? And vice versa?

Is it that Disney percentage is between 25%-40%, higher than Paramount?

Would be great if they did. I’d order a Falcon despite have the SE version. Disney tax is 20% I think. Perhaps they’ll get it down the road. Not sure who has the model license other than EFX.

I'd imagine other license restrictions would perhaps make any decent Die-Cast from Tomy prohibitive. Would eFX have one for their die cast line?

I too would buy a Millennium Falcon model, perhaps two, in a heartbeat.

Would be cool if EFX made some Diecast but the problem is that they don’t have any experience with Diecast in things larger than a light sabre.

TOMY Inc does, (100 years).

What other license restrictions are you thinking about that would make TOMY Inc Diecast Star Wars models expensive and prohibitive?

I was more expressing that if another company has a license, Disney wouldn't be able to easily grant a license to make similar items and could be considered to be in breach of contract. I used eFX as an example due to their PCS Millennium Falcon model.

Understood, Makes sense. Overlap. Maybe that could be a reason why TOMY Inc wouldn’t get a Star Wats license.

I think that would depend on the type of contract. Exclusive license for SW SHIPS ALL TRILOGIES would be, I imagine, way to expensive for companies like EFX. EFX may have an exclusive license for all OT SHIPS? Doubt that to as it would also be dramatically expensive and while they charge exorbitant prices for their studio scale models…15000 and up, I doubt that even those margins would properly cover payments for an exclusive license agreement from Disney.

Chris, his team and TOMY I am sure ARE considering ALL their options as they’ve already successfully tapped two franchises…BBTF and ST. Chris pretty much said so in the last interview I posted on the RPF. They are very happy with direction they are heading and they really are overjoyed with the fan response And the success of the last 3 campaigns.

I think they know they tapped a potential windfall here. There’s a big market for collectors on a budget, looking for high quality Sci Fi replicas. They would be business negligent if they didn‘t explore this further with other franchise.

AND most importantly TOMY isn’t a company that will fail or disappear like Master Replicas, Eaglemoss, Unobtainium, and many others. They are a well managed Japanese company thats been around for 100 years.

I am all for TOMY Inc doing something with Star Wars In Diecast.

One thing to know about EFX is that the owner whom passed away a short while ago sadly, had very deep pockets. Hence he was paying for the Star Wars license and hardly producing anything as we all know for years.

So who knows if EFX has some kind of exclusive or not.
