That Squid Head is a painted IFS Prototype that they used in various packaging photos, etc.. the figure itself was changed in several ways before they actually went ahead and began mass producing it.

That figure is in the collection of Vic and Lisa and is probably one of as kind (though I know of one other IFS Squid Head w/o accessories)

Here was one that was available for sale a while back, probably the same in Vic and Lisa's collection, Here.
The asking price was $5000 and it was a hardcopy according to the description, not an IFS.

Also if you look closely on the Jabba box, the Gamorrean Guard has unproduced alternate arms...theres more armor pieces on them.

I have a IFS Blackcape Squidhead which came from Tom at Cloud City. He told me that there are only two of these known to exist. I tried to post a picture of it, but am having difficulty. If anyone would like to see the picture, please email me.

Steve, I'm pretty sure both Gus and Vic told me it was an IFS.

That's pretty wild ad75! I'd love to see it, please email me some pics! (Ry-T: Squid Head collector extraordinaire!)

Here is a pic of Brian's Squid Head IFS. Its really incredible

Oh yeah, by the way..

"I think he is cooler then charcol Anakin or light brown A-wing pilot."

You got that right! Those 2 figures are nothing more than vendor produced painted first shot figures. They're significant in the way that they were made for approval purposes and are pre-production also the fact that they vary from the figures that eventually got released.. big whoop, though
You really can't compare the two.

IFS figures are really high in the production process for any figure (that was being produced around the time when they were making IFS'). They were hand made from aluminium molds cast directly off of hardcopies--internally at Kenner. They also served any number of purposes.. (photography, mockups and EP carded figures, and as paint masters which would have been sent overseas to the vendor to guide them on the painting of the production figures) Next up to original waxes and acetates, painted hardcopies (of which several IFS figures haven't turned up in that form) and unpainted hardcopies.. They are the best of the best.

I know all of this is common knowledge to most of us on the forums, but I thought I'd give a read for atomicmaniac. I hope I didn't mess up anywhere.. 'cause I just know I'll hear about it..

Not very many figures have turned up in IFS form, but those that have are IMO 100x more important and interesting than any vendor made FS.

Thanks for the info and the pic Ry-T. I am pretty familiar with preproduction stuff from reading I did on a few sites (12back, toysrgus, etc). But I had just never seen that figure outside of that Jabba box, and it is a really great figure. Now that BigRed brought up the guard I would love to see another pic of him or find out whatever happened to that one.
