Vader\'s unmasking: DS2 hangar (12/23/07)

This is, I think, the complete version of what I wanted to do here (minus a good jedi Luke figure)! Since it is such an intimate scene, I didn't want to try and create an entire hangar like Niub, so I scaled it down to just include the correct flooring, a Saga Vader with a cloth cape (taken from the DS Complete Galaxy Vader), and the "head" and ramp of the shuttle that Luke unmasks him. Everything is made from spray-painted foamcore, except for the shuttle windshield which is a piece of clear plastic cut and spraypainted black on the inside. Hope you enjoy!

Edit: New pics 13 years later  with a remade Shuttle cockpit (completed about 3 years ago) to better represent the size and shape of the vehicle. I still intend to put some sort of photo background over the bare white wall!

Edit again! I finally got the photo background I promised myself, an image blown up to a glossy 12" x 18" and affixed to the wall; I also put a single light above to illuminate the scene:

Nice dio, but was he actually unmasked on the ramp? I didn't think so, but I may be wrong...

Very cool, I like how you cut the ship short on the nose to leave more focus for the dio at hand. Excellent idea!

Very good diorama of a dramatic scene. I like how you did the front of the shuttle and the details in the floor.

i like it. takes up very little room. i really enjopy that you only made the cocpit area, since making the whole thing to scale would take up too much room. impresive, most impresive.

Well, throne room duel Luke does NOT look good in this scene! Imay have to get a Palace Luke and suffer the innacuracy so he can kneel beside his father

An update almost four years later!
I made some slight modifications to the ramp because the posterboard I used was starting to peel. I made a couple cargo boxes for the background and got a TAC Luke in there finally.

I really like how the IMP shuttle cockpit is coming out of the wall! But why are the IMP in formation? I though they were running around like kids because the Death star was going to blow up!

I would guess that he has multiple displays on the same shelf (As many of us do) and that they don't have anything to do directly with this scene.

BTW, nice work Daigo_Bah. The cockpit and ramp are really well done. Have you thought about some kind of photoshop background to give the illusion of the rest of the shuttle?

Thanks guys! Mike is right; I have multiple displays on each shelf, and this one happens to have a few DS2 scenes. And I do believe I'm going to add a photo background at some point, so I might call this a long WIP!

I love the floor. Did you use a hole punch (the "dash" version) for the corner "grooves?" Are these Styrene pieces?

It looks great. I'd love to see the whole shuttle to scale.

Have fun,

I really like how the shuttle came out. Makes me want to see your take on the whole ship. (wink, wink, nudge, nudge.)

This is fantastic! I love the floor as well and the running imperial personnel.

You just need the imperial Navy trooper carrying the mouse droid in the background. Nobody ever notices/mentions that guy!

This update is beautiful. I always loved this diorama. I can't believe how well the glossy photo works. I love the reflection of the stormtrooper, which makes it seem like a motion blur in a freeze frame.
