I was just thinking about the various playsets we got over the years and started thinking about playsets we didn't get. The two that come to mind right away would have been Cloud City and the Throne Room. I know we got the cardboard Cloud City with some figures, but a Cloud City playset with the carbon freezing location, the gantry for Luke and Vader's fight, and maybe the weather vane would have been neat. Obviously, a way to "freeze" figures would have been a massive selling point, but also a way to fling Luke through the massive window and the gantry with sliders so Luke and Vader could "fight" would have been needed. Maybe have the whole set be two levels. Top level has the carbon chamber floor to lover Han or some other victim into the chamber and bring up the carbon block. The other side of the block could have the gantry over a hole with the trash chute that leads to the weather vane for Luke to escape from.

The other one, the DS2 Throne Room, could have also had two levels. The throne with the space backdrop, the staircase leading to the lower level, the control stations, the elevator, would al be features, but I think the biggest features would be a collapsible catwalk, the sliders with footpegs to have Vader and Luke duel, and one of those features to have a figure fall over so you could have Vader chuck Palpy into the elevator shaft.

It's too bad we didn't get them. Any others you could think of?

Those are definitely the major omissions in the line I’m aware of.

I ended up getting a couple Bespin backgrounds from @Muftak to make a cloud City Hallway and I’ve got an Emperor’s Throne Room playset from Palleetoy in the UK on order for later this year.

Not that we would get this now, but 1 Kenner inspired custom play set I liked was the cardboard Kantina in the land of the Jawas style.

This style could be re purposed if they wanted to do a retro play set.
Hoth
Endor
Probably more possibilities

I always wanted a Jabba's Palace playset Throne Room and a little trap door to send figure down a tube into a Rancor Pit under the Throne Room. Just really needed 3 walls and a couple platforms. Have the pit about 6" larger than the rancor . Maybe a opening gate on one wall that could be dropped on the rancor's head. The Throne Room has a place to put Jabba's throne and the little alcove he sits in. A spot on the wall to put a Han in Carbonite.

Maybe just outside the rancor pit, have a station for EV-9D9 to lecture the droids.

The POTF2 cardboard Jabba’s Palace fits with vintage pretty well. No Rancor pit, but the cardboard gives it a good vintage vibe and it has all the important deco. The vintage Dias fits in it well too.

You have Boushh and Slave Leia in the same place? So it wasn't really her in the outfit, despite us seeing her melt Han.

My mind is blown.

That's why Jabbas dais was a childhood favorite, those trap doors added so much play value. Not unlike the Dagobah set, which also sparked imaginative play. I think the creature elements of these alien worlds are what captured my interest as a kid. A cardboard diorama for display purposes would not have been able to accomplish the same, especially if it was full of humans.

Something else that may have worked is a sarlacc pit, if it could "eat" the figures, kids would have gone nuts for that, right?

I used the board game for that back in the day :D rotj game.png

I love that board game. I agree not having a Throne Room playset is a bit odd. However, not having the Bunker was criminal. While I am glad its out there, it should be better. It should have the landing pad with an elevator and the command center inside it. That being next to the Ewok Village would have been awesome.

That's why the modern "screen accurate" TVC playsets have very little appeal to me personally. I'm not speaking negatively about them, either.

A playset should spark imagination and have playability tump accuracy all day long.

The Bespin micro playsets where a perfect example of the magic Kenner could create for kids.

Just like the ones mentioned above, vintage playsets we just fun to have.

Those Micro playsets are among some of my favorite-- I remember always playing with the carbonite chamber [and nearly losing some of the figures in the process] and bouncing Luke out of the "glass" window of the control room when I was a kid.
