Just saw some rather interesting concept art hit the internet from Colin's cancelled original EP9. I heard some rumors of truth to some of these scenes, but interesting to see the art. Apparently these mostly if not entirely will not make the official concept art book.

All of that concept art looks lovely. But it probably still would have been awful in the hands of Disney I'm sorry to say.

True, doesn't mean it would've been any good. But I am seeing concepts, concepts the key word, that I like here. I rather like the occupied Coruscant idea. In ways, particularly with what appear to be cages and what certainly is a SW guillotine, it almost feels medieval, like when a rival country would siege and occupy your castles and homesteads and just utterly torture your people in very barbaric and showy ways. It would have been nice to go back to an older planet, which technically we do in Tatooine, but barely and technically we don't go to the forest moon of Endor, but Endor itself, somewhere we haven't been. I'm also getting vibes that the character of Jannah I assume was intended to be much more in this or she's an adaptation of the idea of stormtroopers in mass turning against the First Order. I'd have rather seen it rather than be told it. And then this...seems...to imply the Knights of Ren would have been actual characters, that ship is wicked (I agree), and I'd have much rather them be that that Bob Fett or Phasma. Heck they didn't even get that much. I ALSO like the idea of SEEING Leia's message sent out rather than Lando just goes out and everyone survives and, for my money, how I'd go with it? It would be Leia speaking of how Luke Skywalker has passed and he saved the galaxy multiple times. Honor him. And that's why so many show up to the battle, would make a lot more sense and honor Luke's legacy.

I love this concept art.

I think it is fun to imagine what could have been, or what eventually inspired what we got. And just like I love Ralph McQuarrie's concept art for the original star wars.. I think it is great to wonder about what directions things could have gone. If I show my seven year old son McQuarrie's concept art for Star Wars he is confused and asking why everyone looks so weird. Difference is, I dint't see concept are of star war when I was seven, I saw it like a decade or more later.

There's almost enough there for Episode X. I would watch it.

A full draft of Trevorrow's version has leaked. I found it the other day from this tweet:

Have to say: while this has some core fundamental problems and inane decisions, I like this overall a lot more than what we got. It feels much more like it focuses on ending the story started by the previous two movies of this trilogy, while still having references, homages, and shout-outs to the first six movies. If I could somehow graft the Kylo/Ben and Rey interplay (minus the Palpatine family stuff, of course) into this story of Finn, Poe, Rose, Leia, Lando, the Resistance and the First Order...I would have a IX I was very happy with.

Which leads to maybe the biggest caveat: this draft is dated a week or so before Carrie's untimely passing. So Leia is present here in a way she never could be in the actual movie. If I had to guess (and of course I do), I think dealing with that loss combined with the direction this version wants to take Kylo Ren (with a solid dash of the Book of Henry disaster) are the reasons why Trevorrow was pushed out. I know it's borderline risible to look at TROS and hear Kennedy say that they had a plan for the whole trilogy...but if there was one, the redemption of Ben Solo and him eventually fighting alongside Rey seems to be the one unshakeable cornerstone.

Anyway, in light of the images posted above, it's interesting to see what could have been.

Man. I really wish they had developed and gone with this. The final showdown on Coruscant is something I'd have LOVED to see on-screen.

I agree about the Coruscant showdown -- that got my heartbeat racing just reading it. Finn turning active stormtrooper units away from their brainwashing and leading them into combat against the First Order...I won't call it a no-brainer, but it seems so clearly like what was being set up earlier in the trilogy. It's a bummer they let that idea fall by the wayside. Plus the "there are more of us"-type scene feels a lot more earned here.

I read a brief outline of it a few months ago but it seems like you and others read much more.

Is the whole thing online? Okay I skipped the post that had a link. I don't do twitter. Is there a another way I can get the draft?

Nothing was going to save the ST but this concept art and what I read before shows that Trevorrow's really, really is a much superior story.

I can understand Abrams wanting to write disown, but what I cannot understand is how he believed that what he came up with was "better"?

And Trevorrow was going to take us back to Mortis? That was not mentioned in what I had read.😎

I don't know another source, but if you want to bypass Twitter, this is the link that's within the tweet.

There is also a podcast that is acting out the script like a radio drama. I've only listened to a couple of episodes, but it's a fun way to experience the story.

I just finished the podcast series.

Nothing was going to save the ST but Trevorrow's story would have been a better movie than TRoS.

The "love story" is woeful bad though and his notion that a Jedi needs

the Light Side and the Dark Side
is nonsense.

He did manage to do what the other two movies could not and give Poe a personality. He made him an

ignorant weasel
but it is still a personality.
