I have just received a phone call from the team at Fake Britain.

The Tonigate piece that was filmed this summer will be airing sooner than expected as part of a Star Wars segment on the current series of Fake Britain.

This will premiere on BBC1 at 9.15am on Thursday 11th December. Two days before FF7 and in just seventeen days time!

There will be a prime time repeat at 7.30pm. A date for that has not be finalised yet.

Well excited now!

That's great news! Hope there's a way non-British folks can have a look at this one. Many congratulations for the work you and everyone did on this, Jason!

Good news Jason, look forward to seeing it.

With any luck Chris it will show up on the BBC's iplayer: BBC iPlayer (Best have a look to see if you can watch shows ahead of time from overseas!)

It excites you???

That is the icing on the cake-point proven.

What point?

Yes I am excited. As I said to the producer who gave me the news today, it will be interesting to see if any currently closed doors will be opened by some prime time national TV exposure.

BBC iPlayer is UK only.

Fortunately BBC1 and 2 are part of the basic programming in the Netherlands.

Oh shame, I did see something about a downloadable program you could use to watch shows while abroad but I'm not sure how that works. I'm sure someone over here will record it for those that aren't able to watch the show due to their location.

Jason or anyone in the UK, could you possibly record this segment and upload it to you YouTube, Dailymotion or Vimeo?

If you make the title of the upload non-descript (i.e. call it SW-vid) and provide a link here, there are ways to mirror or rip the video once its published.

This is something I want to make sure I have on file as it could be helpful to what I've been wanting to do for some time now to recoup what Toni took me for. I have no other means of accessing this program here in Canada, and my concern is that once it airs, it's going to disappear in the ether.

If anyone has a plan about making a virtual copy or is looking into something like I'm describing, please make a point of PM'ing me with details.

Much thanks for the update Jason!

Actually Jason, if you are in contact with the producers, they usually do provide a copy of the segment if asked. Could you look into it and let me know. I've asked a number of times whenever I was interviewed/quoted for an on-air segment with never an issue.

Don't think I'll need that. I have Sky+ and can record to hard disk. It's also quite easy to record BBC iplayer. I'm sure there will be a copy up somewhere a few days after it's aired.

cheers Jason

Most of the online video rippers work from the main video sites (i.e. YouTube). Anything you can do to get a copy of this into the hands of people outside of the UK would be appreciated.

Grant_C had told me something like this was in the works in June of this year - does he know about this upcoming segment?

Its been a VERY busy year behind the scenes.

There is lots to say. Hope you didn't think someone was gonna potential rip off the global vintage star wars community and simply walk away.

Hopefully Jason will also tell us more on that vintage star wars UK Podcast in December.

I'm sure the video will get uploaded for all to see.

But this is Jason's moment to shine and the spotlight deserves to be on him.

As for the future of this, who knows.

I'll be more than happy to give an update of whats been going on in the new year.

Over to you MR PALITOY.

Thanks for all the messages of support guys:-

What I know about the piece:-

It's 7/8 mins long so should make a short enough video to be uploaded
Features me giving some background on what happened
Features Aston auctions evaluating some collectors pieces to see if they are Toni's or not

What it doesn't feature:-

AFA/UKG both refused to take part
Andy at action force toys refused to take part after selling many undeclared toy Toni's on eBay over the summer, one of which was bought by the Fake Britain team
Sadly Toni being door stepped

What this does mean is that there is plenty of scope for a follow up piece if the shows producers want to pursue it further next year.

Cheers Jason

I just think you are more excited about getting on this programme and looking the part.

I wont be watching but i sincerely hope this helps to bring an answer to all this.

To be honest I feel more daunted about the prospect of having me and my collecting room featuring on a nationally broadcast to program seen by millions and many more friends, family and vintage SW collectors than you would get off a normal limelight. I was acutely aware that everything on the shelves in my collection room would be visible and I'd have little control over what is seen in the final edit. I tried to put in some Easter eggs and stuff that SW collectors could pick out.

I didn't take part in this to get on the telly. This will be my third appearance on a bbc tv program seen by a large audience, so that wasn't my motivation. It was to help out as the community asked me to be the one to tell the story of what happened in the piece that fake Britain filmed. I thought they were going to film it regardless, though later the shows producer said it would have been very difficult to make at all without my involvment.

I really hope that things happen as a result of this with action fraud, the police, AFA, UKG etc. for me, that will have made the whole thing worthwhile. There's far too much fraud and fakes occurring in this hobby, and anything highlighting that and helping to address that is got to be worth it in my books.

Jason

Shame the person who brought all this to light couldnt have grown some *******s and gone on this show really-that speaks volumes. I know of 2 other collectors that turned this down as they knew it was more trouble than good.

Again, i hope that it does rectify some issues but quite honestly two of the main points are being left out. Toni being confronted, and AFA and UKG,s lack of involvment or willingingness to help.

After all said and done, its buyer beware now and people need to do their homework. Even now more mocs deemed as Tonis have been proved real which proves nobody knows what is and isnt real 100% - its just conjecture.

Buyer beware from now on.

Thanks for the heads up, 'cause I thought it would air in the evening. I just gave the order to my people (parents with a recorder) to tape it. So it will be christmas before I can watch it.

Alex

Ah darn it I didn't realise it was in the morning either! Will certainly be watching online. Wish you could have got him Cook Report style

Shame about that Kenner cardback getting mixed up into the 65d snowtrooper piece. Apart from that it all came across pretty well, I thought.

cheers Jason

Just saw this and am not really sure whether this will do more harm than good. In terms of naming and shaming Toni the program totally failed, just mysteriously referring to him as 'The Faker'. Also there was no attempt to state that it was only Palitoy cards that were faked, in fact the program kept calling carded figures 'boxed'. My worry is that the overriding impression from the program is that all vintage Star Wars toys could be dodgy!

That said, it's always nice to see vintage SW on the telly.

It may yet come to light that the U.S.A. have their own Toytoni Bonsai, who knows.

Toy Trey from LA?

Ha, hope I didn't sound too down on the program as it was really more of a bit of fluff rather than a serious attempt at preventing scammers... but I would love to have seen Toni Emchowicz's door being banged on by the film crew and made to answer a few questions. Why didn't that happen?

Fake Britain like doing follow ups. And with Episode 7 coming out next year, maybe Toni isn't in the clear just yet...

I must say that was a great piece! What I expected, 'cause you can't expect them to name and shame seeing the evidence is not that clear to the general public. It's a specialized field. To us it's 'easy' to see but not to the program. I have to say that I was suprise they did a piece on it in the first place. The fact that they showed it in the morning was a mistake imho seeing mostly only stay at home moms view that program at that time.

Fake Britain up until 2 weeks ago aired on a morning 9.15am slot with a prime time repeat at 7.30pm. Then they decided to air the last 10 episodes on a daily 9.15am
slot over the last 2 weeks with no prime time repeat. Maybe they are clearing their schedules pre Xmas, or it didn't make the Xmas evening schedule. It may get a
prime time repeat in the New Year. I was surprised when I was told a few weeks ago that it was going to be airing this season as the producer had said he thought
it would be several months before the BBC gave him and air date in the next season.

cheers Jason

In talks with the BBC, they where actually seriously considering to:

01: Make a second part that could be 1 hour long special. This idea was given to the producers and they were interested
02: They were also in talks with the police and action fraud about building a case for prosecution
03: They were making enquires into abilities to find the age of glue. Apparently this is possible
04: Expanding the investigation internationally

Unfortunately,(and I'm making no judgement on this) many of those contacted to provide information didn't wish to get involved.

This is for a variety of reasons that are valid. There can be a lot at stake from exposing your self to a possible court case. Also, many of these people have businesses and families to also worry about.

I urge everyone to keep asking questions, keep pressing buttons, keep gathering information. Look what happened to NIXON.

Well done Jason. Lets hope another hero watches this.

The hero the community needs, and the one it deserves (Batman Voice)
