To reseal or not to reseal.. this is the question.

For regular Kenner production items, I wouldn't even ask this question. When it comes to rarer and harder to find items, then I see this becoming more of a valid dilemma. First off, I state that I'm not against reseals and I have a Lili Ledy Stormtrooper that was resealed. I also have a Uzay Darth Vader that's a reseal and I'm perfectly happy with that; especially as the Uzay bubbles tended to be a bit sketchy anyways.

So, the question that comes into play is that I have an Uzay C-3PO cardback and bubble. The bubble was a pretty clean removal and is in really good shape. I recently acquired the loose Uzay C-3PO figure (removable limbs version) which goes with the cardback. I was originally going to reseal it to the cardback but with it being the removable limbs version of the figure, am having second thoughts. Yes, it's been conceptualized and discussed that Uzay made two versions of the C-3PO figure; removable limbs and regular, with the two different Uzay cardbacks. This particular figure is removable limbs and goes with the cardback that I have, that states removable limbs at the bottom (Thanks Jakub for translating and confirming). So I turn to the forum here for opinion.

Do I leave the figure as is with the cardback and bubble loose or do I reseal it to the cardback (and then contact Oscar for an acrylic case for it)? What are your thoughts on this, and why?

Don
who is slightly leaning more towards resealing it.

Don't reseal. Oscar can do a custom case that'll hold the bubble in the right space on the cardback so it displays well. I wouldn't dream of gluing or taping something to an Uzay cardback.

Since it is an Uzay cardback..I would advise against the reseal also.

You can display it nicely without it being on the cardback.

Good luck with your decision.

Don I agree with Bill - get Oscar or CGA to make a custom case that supports the bubble against the card. The problem is in resealing it, is making an informed decision of what the long term effects of the glue will be and determing how archival it is. Minimal intervention I think is the key for a piece of this rarity.

congratulations on completing an Uzay c3po. Thats no small accomplishment. I would keep it honest! display all three parts together without altering their original state. they will look just as good in a custom case holding them in place without altering the pieces with glue and permanently decreasing their value and changing them forever.

Don, that was me who translated it (not to take away from Jakub, who is Polish, and an excellent resource!). Lol...

And just to echo the thoughts here - DON'T glue it. Go for the custom case. You never know when you may change your mind (i.e., want to remove the figure, upgrade the figure/bubble, etc.)

Who is jealous he had the chance to get this removable Uzay 3PO but didn't bother to read the bottom of HIS card back and realize there was a removable version - kudos to you, Don!

Ahhh, you're right. I'm sorry. I got mixed up with who had translated the cardback. Please accept my apologies. And of course, a huge thank you for translating it. This was a huge bit of information for me and the rest of the bootleg collectors out there.

There seems to be a consensus that has given me great insight into this and I thank everyone for their input. Not resealing is obviously the way to go. Now to contact Oscar about a case for this.

Don
thinking of expanding the Uzay run a bit more.

Just wanted to add the pic of the figure, the cardback, and the bubble. (not to turn this into a limelight post, but I wanted to share).

Yes, Mete had translated the writing at the bottom of the cardback, which I'm copying here for everyone to read:

Quote:

The different card backs actually say which is removable limbs and which isn't.
At the bottom of the cardback with R5, it says "kollari ayaklari sokulup
takabilir" - which translates into "arm and legs are removable".

[/QUOTE]

So there you have it. C-3PO and R5-D4 cardback is removable limbs. It is theorized the other C-3PO cardback is the "regular" version of the figure, though I haven't gotten 100% confirmation of this, as no one wants to open theirs to find out.

Don
who had always thought the Uzay figure to be the "regular" version and was surprised to find "removable limbs" version.

This is my carded C3po without the mention of removable limbs, and one of the limbs has fallen off of the figure.
I can take a close up pic of the loose limb on Thursday(my next day off)

Man - that's in gorgeous shape.

Me <--- jealous.

I had a similar dilemma with a great ROTJ Toltoys Vader card. I knew it would look great for display if I resealed it, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it, so I attached a bubble to a bit of archival plastic (usually used for stamps) and placed it on top and then into a case. I used double sided tape, so there was no glue involved, and it doesn't affect the bubble.

As you can see, it looks great and doesn't ruin the cardback either. If you wanted to, you could probably even cut out the back of the plastic so that the figure is not actually locked away too.

Cheers
Pat

I actually think that it's such a clean separation, it looks great as you have it in the photo! With the bubble separate. As we al know Uzay bubbles are often partially unsealed, I think that if this got into the wrong hands it would very quickly appear on the market as MOC sadly.
