To Hoth and Back

Painted mural of Hoth clouds which blend into Tatooine Sunset. Clouds continue around onto furnace room/workshop door. Hoth dio is a shambles but I had temporarily pieced it together and it will be very different but “fun”.

I believe the censored word is synonymous with round spherical objects.......as in tennis ****s....foot****s....that word gets blocked on here routinely and unnecessarily all the time.🤫🙄

So you're doing Hoth in addition to the Endor, Dagobah, and Tatooine dios? That's awesomeness times 4!!!!! The flaming snowspeeder is epic, can't wait to see the next update!

Ha! Thanks @yodashizzle !!! 5 actually. The fifth is Bespin Carbon Freeze Chamber….(I haven’t forgot about your request). I’ll just be enhancing Hasbro’s for display for now. Stay tuned.

You know, seeing that "Carbon Freeze Chamber" made me think it would be kind of fun to build a refregerator into the diorama. A little one, camping sized or so. :)
With a Carbonite Han door perhaps?! Coincidently there’s already a small freezer across the way. It is the basement after all. 😜

That's a movie, right? Tommy Boy.
Not sure if I've ever seen that :)Yes, a classic. Chris Farley in his signature role. Filled with great references and quotyes

Yes, Chris Farley in his signature role (at least for me) and filled with great quotes. There's also a great Star Wars moment in it. Watch it, it's time well spent. ;) (y)(y)(y)

Made the vehicle maintenance platform that goes over x-wings and speeders years ago for the first big Hoth dio. Think I called it a transom cause it frames the ship, much like a transom.

In architecture, a transom is a horizontal beam separating the top of a door from a window above. I'm guessing in this context, our friend yodashizzle is talking about the catwalk section of the incredible scaffolding in Droidworld's close-up shot of the icicles.
Yep. (y) :) It's a scaffolding, a catwalk..........I should just call it diorama awesomeness.

Those icicles are so cool!
Will be framing the hanger opening with icicles. Kind of like the vine curtains framing Dagobah, Redwoods framing Endor, and I’ve created canyon rocks to frame Tatooine. (Coming soon!?).

In piecing these together in a challenging space and adding new elements, the dios are becoming little story theatre playsets more than traditional, 100% realistic dioramas. It wasn’t planned when started, but as it has been coming together organically like this and the theatricality has brought me some joy I must say!

And I’m pleased you guys are enjoying too! It means alot to get ideas and approval from kindred spirits around the world. 1691183667998.png

Wow, I already thought your diorama was way cool, but you took it to another level, literally, with all the lower chambers. That's awesome! 😃

Thanks @sharky ! I got blown off course by a screaming deal in Facebook Marketplace. A POTF2 Endor AT-AT and parts of a Hoth one.

Cobbled together another element to blow up with the wired n light bulb. Will add smoke, flying snow and a bit of missing leg. This is a down the road finish. Other things to do first.

Oh my gosh, the carbon scored metal looks amazing with that lighting! You reminded me of a technique I used to make a “good“ AT-AT a little bit less plastic-looking: a distant, very lightly applied, flat black spray across the whole thing, only allowing miniature particles to land rather than pick up much of the color. It’s something I’ve done on the AT-ST vehicles as well, and for that matter, even snowspeeders!

Thanks @Daigo_Bah ! Once the bulk of the Hoth environment is done, you’re misting technique on the vehicles has to happen!

When your BIG AT-AT sort of looks kinda small in a photo?????......that's when you know you're doing an epic dio.
Com-scan has detected a diorama depicting an area of the sixth planet of the Hoth system. The dio is strong enough to deflect any competition.

Testing, testing, 1 2 3. Want to get some generic 3” soldiers that I can paint to be Hoth Rebels in the distance.

There were those army men type figures from ROTS era that could work for that. All they need is a little paint!
