Hey there, Rebelscum fans! This week on the site we’re looking at the Battle of Christophsis, one of the pivotal battles in The Clone Wars that helps set up the direction of the series. Make sure to read our “Expand Your Mind” article first to learn about how the conflict is introduced in the 2008 film, but stay tuned throughout the week for more articles, insights, videos, and information on the best merchandising content.

Although the Battle of Christophsis was first introduced in the 2008 theatrical film, The Clone Wars returned to the crystal planet in the episodes “The Hidden Enemy” and “Cat and Mouse.” These episodes were fun, standalone adventures, and although The Clone Wars also introduced many extended story arcs that told stories over three or four episodes, having a singular story was also a bonus.

The Clone Wars is best remembered for some of its pivotal arcs, such as the Siege of Mandalore or the General Krell arc, but there are some standalone episodes that deserve more credit. Here are a few of the most underrated episodes of The Clone Wars.

  • “Ambush” (Season One, Episode #1) - The series premiere is oddly an episode that fans don’t recognize as much, but the Yoda-centric action story provided a great first entry into the themes of the series. Yoda teaches a trio of clones about strategy and patience as they vie for the loyalty of the Toydarian King while avoiding Asajj Ventress’s droid army.

  • “Trespass” (Season One, Episode #15) - On a snowy planet of Arto Plutonia, Anakin and Obi-Wan are forced to help negotiate a territorial conflict between the aggressive Plutonian leader Chi Cho, who wants to destroy the native people. The younger, more sensitive senator Riyo Chuchi would show up again later on as an ally to Ahsoka.

  • “Bounty Hunters” (Season Two, Episode #17) - In this ode to Akira Kurosowa’s Samurai classic Seven Samurai, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka team up up with a group of bounty hunters to protect and train a village of farmers from the impending doom of Hondo Ohnaka’s pirate gang. Hondo shows up as a villain here, but he would later become an ally of sorts through an alliance with the Republic on secret missions.

  • “Sphere of Influence” (Season 3, Episode #4) - Senator Chuchi returns to help Ahsoka investigate the Trade Federation, but this episode is best known for the appearance by Baron Papanodia, the Plutonian leader that George Lucas himself played in a cameo in Revenge of the Sith. Here Papanodia is a gun-touting action hero who works with his son Ion (voiced by Seth Green) to locate his kidnapped daughters. Among their kidnappers is Greedo, and the episode features a return to the Mos Eisley cantina.

  • “Hunt for Ziro” (Season 3, Episode #9) - The rescue of Ziro the Hutt in the season one finale “Hostage Crisis” wasn’t resolved until the third season, where Ziro is targeted by the Hutt clans on Nal Hutta but escapes with the help of Sy Snootles. Two teams aim to track him down: the Jedi duo of Obi-Wan and Quinlan Vos, and Cad Bane alongside his loyal droid TODO-360.
