What does everyone think of the Black Series packaging? Love it? Hate it? Bit Plain? Share your thoughts in this thread...

I think that packaging is gorgeous. So elegant and simple. I don't keep things packaged, but that looks like it would display really well. I like how the window extends around the side so you can get a better look at it if you don't open.

I'm very happy with the packaging. I think it's a great example of "less is more." No lightsaber blades, or starbursts, or crazy graphics, just a simple and elegant design.

Honestly might be my favorite packaging yet. I really hope the 3 3/4 inch line looks exactly like this in stores as well. It's a nice display.

Even though I am going to pass on these, the packaging is basically gorgeous. One of my favorite modern designs.

Indifferent. I don't like the cartoon face. Will be interested to see if the 3 3/4" line goes with this look. (Right before it goes in the recycle bin)

Only thing I don't like is the Luke Skywalker face in the corner. Would rather that saying something like "From Episode IV: A New Hope" there or something.

to be honest I think the packaging looks great. it's simple not over the top and you can tell it's Star Wars. sometimes it's the simple looking packaging that stands out over the crowd. nowadays every toy line is getting graphic crazy with the look of a package which to me is a waste since 9 times out of 10 the package winds up in the garbage can.

Star Wars suffers from this too. I understand the look needs to be kept fresh so that the focus stays on the toys but with the exception of the Vintage line and the TAC line I really didn't like any of the art for the packages. the Black series looks to take a page from Vintage slightly and keep it simple and pure in a way.

Really beautiful. Love the simplistic box design, the matte black coloration, the orange accents (orange and black go great together), the grey Star Wars logo (glad they didn't go with the standard colorization), the wrap-around window, the simplistic text and the lack of any tacky graphics other than the Luke logo, which is the only thing I don't care for. I understand they had real estate to fill, and I don't think it would have looked as good with the Star Wars logo and text centered, but I would have rather seen them fill that spot with grey colored versions of the logos for the character's affiliation (Rebel, Empire, Mandalorian, etc.).

I like the box more than I like the figure. Hopefully any new 3.75" packaging to come will be as well-designed.

Ugh, cl-a-s-s-y is censored? Come on.

Haha, it's like a kindergardener is in charge of the word filters on this site.

Ya, I'm loving the packaging. I do agree on the cartoon face. It's not needed, would be nice to have Episode # instead.

I like it. The face sketch is a nice way to get the character pic on the package while still keeping the different ones looking more uniform than they'd be with different color pictures for each character.

This of course assumes it is each character on its own package and it isn't just the Luke face on the them all like the Yoda on everything else this year or Maul on last years stuff.

I think this is the best packaging of the modern era. Vintage collection is still my favorite, but I don't think I'd put it in the "modern era" category, at least not from a packaging standpoint.

"Ages 4+"

Like any kids would be buying this line.

Dude, I would have when I was kid. I had all sorts of 5" and 6" figures.. C.O.P.S, He-Man, Thundercats, Tigersharks, Silverhawks, Turtles... if there had been a Star Wars line at that scale? Forget about it. I would have been out of my mind.

I don't think a 6inch figure on a large vintage card back would be out of the question as Comic-Con or convention exclusive.

It's growing on me and better than all but the Vintage style and TAC (which has already been said). I hope the Luke icon in the corner does not appear on all boxes but is unigue to Luke. I think the figure was photographed laying flat on his back as there is nothing holding him in place. So will he be seated in a bubble shell or strapped down with those little, clear rubber-bandy things?

Liking this idea. We basically know what it would looks like with the GG vintage jumbo figures.

I like the packaging. It's a HILARIOUS turn around though... Does anybody else recall the once official party line? You know, when years ago... the stated reason (over and over) for why they simply could NEVER return to the Vintage Style Cards was because BLACK packaging was a retail no no and blah, blah, blah...

They also said they'd never make 6" figures. I guess things change.

I like this idea even more. Would have maintained the simplistic elogance of the packaging.

Maybe they still believe black packaging is a retail no-no and this entire line is a continuation of their "Let's market product that doesn't move at retail." business strategy they began last year.

The packaging looks perfect to me. It's certainly got my interest...

not a big fan of it........what's darth vader gonna look like in it?

Even though I'm not collecting the line, I think the packaging looks really good. I like how a "Bespin" style design seperates the weapons/accesrories from the figure.

I'm guessing grey, like Luke.

They've put Vader on black t-shirts and other things in the past and it looks fine. They just do white/grey outlining of his features with heavy black shading from the background, just like the Luke logo.

I like the minimalist look of it, but I think they could have called it "the black series" without actually printing those words on the box. It's a pretty odd name to print on a toy package. But these are figures that are meant to be opened and displayed anyways. The packaging isn't nostalgic or anything, so it'll be going in the recycling bin.

In my opinion, the packaging is incredibly generic - it does not represent Star Wars to me in the slighest. At its heart, Star Wars is a rich and beautiful story with colorful characters. This packaging does not reflect that. If anything, it reminds me more of Star Trek, which has always been slightly more cold and sterile. If they had a least printed it on a semi-matte/semi-gloss cardstock, it would have been more interesting. I really dislike the lineart character artwork as well - it just blends into the overwhelming sea of blackness. If this is indeed the style of packaging that will be used for the 3-3/4" figures, I suspect many retailers will view it as retail poison. It will be nearly impossible to distinguish between the figures. I am a huge fan of the Vintage packaging, I freely admit, and the packaging mockups I've seen for the now defunct Droid Factory, Rise of Darth Vader (or whatever they're calling t) and the Black series just leave me feeling tremendously underwhelmed.

I am wondering if these boxes can be opened by simply cutting some tape and sliding the figure out. Maybe this will be the first figure packaging that allows you to remove the figure without tearing up the packaging?

I would disagree, I think it does a great job on placing all of the attention on the product itself, not fancy graphic elements that really do nothing.

Besides with every other toy line out there packaged in bright, eye-burning colors, I think black will stand out pretty well. Like a black-hole in the middle of a rainbow. :awesome:

Personally, I LOVE the the packaging!!! I think it's the best looking, most mature, sleek packaging for Star Wars toys Ever!!! That being said, I'm with some of you guys on some of the things; I'd prefer it not say "the black series" on the front of the package, and I wish that they had something other than the face on the front!!! Maybe like some of you have suggested, either and episode number, or some sort of emblem denoting affiliation/race/family/planet!!!

The packaging and the face sculpt are both rather depressed looking. I mean, this Luke doesn't shout, "I'm going to blow up the Death Star!". It mumbles, "I'm going to therapy...".

While I see what they're going for in a modern design that should appeal to older collectors, it's way too gloomy looking for me. Plus, if you're a MOC collector, you're now going to have a massive chunk of uninterrupted black in your collection. Ick.

I like what Darth Jawa said: "Star Wars is a rich and beautiful story with colorful characters." In my book, The Black Series is the complete opposite of that.
