Jon Favreau, who is set to write and exec produce an original, live-action scripted Star Wars TV series, revealed that his new show will be called The Mandalorian.

"After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic," Favreau shared in a post on his verified Instagram account.

For me, this is the absolute worst thing that could have happened! I hate the over-use of this group. Jango I could handle, TCW and Rebels and the old EU used them awfully. Less is more with Mandalorians for me.

someone here called boba fett 'the man with no name', with respect to the clint eastwood westerns..
apparently that's what favreau sees too. (like 'Caine' from kung-fu). the wandering hero archetype.

it would be interesting if this actually WAS boba fett, having escaped from the sarlaac, 7 years after the fact.
maybe wandering the galaxy with no memory like Jason Bourne.
(or even just wandering the galaxy free of his contracts, with no 'boss' anymore, since jabba is dead).

just noticing:this might actually BE a boba fett TV show -- the 'Mandalorian' title doesn't rule this out.

That sounds like an ok idea. But, seeing as Boba Fett is the most famous BH in the galaxy, he wouldn't be long not knowing his history.

Publicity shot from the first day of production.

From StarWars.com

Production on the first Star Wars live-action streaming series has begun! After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. The series will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau, as previously announced, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode. Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). It will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for updates.

Some good directors in the mix.

Well that looks pretty cool. Looking forward to to this.

This looks and sounds good, but two things. 1. I think this means a Fett film is officially cancelled cancelled. 2. I'm concerned because Favreau played a Mando in Clone Wars and for my money, as unpopular as it is to say (which still baffled me how that show was popular), this is concerning. Leave that Feloni BS out of this and I'm sold.

There never was a Boba Fett film to begin with.

The pic of the character is pretty cool looking. This should be a fun show.

Feloni is already lined up to direct some of them (I think even the Pilot).

Favreau also played Rio in Solo.

even with no detail knowledge yet, I bet this will be about a nonamed character until season end, only to be revealed as a sarlacc-survived-and-hidden-in-the-dark Boba ;) :)

Star Wars: 1313 was a video game in development at LucasArts. ...
The player would have taken on the role of an unidentified bounty hunter, later revealed to be Boba Fett, who navigates Coruscant's underworld metropolis of Level 1313.

Yeah problem is 1313 was a mess. It wasnt supposed to be Boba Fett till after the first demo when Lucas said make him Fett. Then it went through 3 more major rewrites before being canceled l.

It was such a mess that when Disney took over they tried selling it and no studio wanted to finish it. Not even EA wanted to finish the game and release it.

So my guess is either new character or Cobb Vanth. It does say in the press release that

"After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order.

So new warrior after Boba and Jango.

Highly doubt it's boba. They might have boba make a cameo at some point.

Maybe he meats an old messed up BH who turns out to be Fett who teaches him some things and ends up my ng in a blaze of glory

I think the show is going to ultimately live or die on knowledge of Mandalorian culture. I realize a lot of what was written of the Mandalorians is not really canon any more, but it would be crazy to reinvent the wheel when you have so many that really liked what was done in the books.

Filoni is involved, so I feel like he'll pull in as much Star Wars background as he can. I just hope that we get a Boba and Jango type of character and they don't try to make this a 'heart of gold' sort of character. Mandalorians were warriors not travelling heroes.

One issue I can see being a problem with the show is that the main character will end up just being Boba Fett lite. And I'm assuming that this show is going to follow the much talked about fan wish of a bounty hunter focused story within the Star Wars universe.

Many people think Boba and his dad were Mandalorian. But, neither were. They just wore the 'Death Watch' armour, because of the reputation it had.

Unless, of course, this "Mandalorian" is, in fact, Boba Fett in a different set of armour, after his (ridiculous) escape from "certain" death in the Sarlacc. That will cause a lot of problems in itself though.

Just to be clear:
I didn't mean to suggest the new series would follow/be the 1313 storyline. (I remember reading that that storyline would have taken place between III and IV, anyway)

I mainly posted the pic, because since the first photo on set was provided, I found the similarity in costume design curious.

Combined with Scooby's comment of a drawn-out reveal to be Fett, and ...
Well, make of it what you will.

Yes.
If you're going to have someone wearing Mandalorian armor, ...
Who's alone, ...
With a gunfighter motif ...

Well, it either is Fett, but they aren't saying that yet because the show is set after ROTJ and they want his survival to be a surprise ...

Or, it kinda comes off like a lazy gimmick to capitalize on Fett ...
"Well, we want to use Fett, but he's dead, so we'll just make another character like Fett."

Well, as I just said elsewhere, we'll all know it's Fett when he starts yapping in his Kiwi accent.

For me, that kind of cheap nonsense just won't work.

man, it just gets more funny with every announcement of new material, some "fans" (ahem) are never gonna be ****en happy

There is a work-around.
Vader's helmet altered his voice. Boussh's helmet altered Leia's voice.

I always felt that Lucas, rather than changing Fett's voice in TESB to be Temuera Morrison's, should have instead made Jango's voice, when he wears the helmet, match the sound of Fett's voice in TESB.

So far as I know, LFL has not done this yet with any other Mandalorians in either Clone Wars or Rebels.
But it's never too late. Just say he modded the helmet to help keep his identity hidden.
Of course, that in itself might be a bit of a give-away.

It's always been ridiculous that Lucas changed Boba Fett's voice at all. An accent is an amalgamation of cultural influences, not genetic ones. So, Boba having a Kiwi accent like dear old dad is just dumb. Likewise, it's stupid that every clone in 'The Clone Wars' speaks with that awful attempt at Kiwi too. It's just really poor design thinking.

In any case, they'll probably just make stuff up as they go along, which seems to be par the course these days for Diswars. So, who knows what's going to happen. I really do hope, though, that is isn't Boba Fett under there.

It could all work out fine of course. But, I'll be honest, the background to that picture has me more excited than the guy??? in fancy armour.

Not sure if this comment was directed at me specifically, when I called creating a "Fett-like" character because they couldn't use Fett in the timeframe was a sign of lazy writing ...

Let me provide another example:
When Shadows of the Empire was released, there was plenty of criticism of Dash Rendar as being nothing but a stand-in for Han.

Han wasn't available because he was currently in carbonite, so they made a new "loner, cynical, smuggler, with a freighter, with a quick wit and attitude" character for the cast to play off of.

It was recognized for what it was: a replacement for Han, because they couldn't use Han.

Just saying, based on the little we know so far about this tv show, that's what this comes off as.

I get what you're saying, but honestly, it's never bothered me.
SW, although taking place in a technologically advanced setting, has always been more fantasy/fairy-tale than science-fiction.

I feel the clones voices, while perhaps not scientifically realistic, work for me within the tenor of the story. SW is not the only property to introduce cloned characters that sound exactly like the original.

It's just a trope of the medium (and also cheaper/easier than dubbing over the "clone" actor's lines)

I really do hope, though, that is isn't Boba Fett under there.
As do I, and I find that unfortunate, as the main reason I don't want it to end up being Fett is because I've liked so little of what Disney SW has done, and I'd rather they just left him alone than make things worse.

I'm interested. Looks good, just hope they do this right. Also, while this guys eems to be Mandalorain, and what tehb show will revolve around. I don't see the need for them to totally focus on Mandalorians 100%. Just follow this guy around the Galaxy, watching hi do his thing.

Me personally...I cringe during those redubbed Morrison/Boba Fett scenes in ESB SE. I get the continuity, but his line readings are just flat to me, and just not very menacing. When I first heard Jason Wingreen say “he’s no good to me Dead,” it gave me the chills.

IDK, I never really viewed Mandalorian armor as a symbol of 'righteousness' if they're going along with this sort of motif. Perhaps this is just the old school in me going back to original descriptions mentioned in Donald F. Glut's ESB novelization and comparing it now to the EU mythos that surrounds it now (with Lucas/Filoni having a hand in it as well).
:\

Well, it's the only version I watch.

I can't ever imagine going back to the special edition crap now.
