The Grand Inquisitor - OWK#09

Interesting that the figure doesn't have the red/yellow eyes. The production definitely added them in post, as Rupert was definitely not wearing contacts. I guess Hasbro wasn't told of that addition in time to make it to the figure, which is a shame. Maybe a running change is in order?

I think I like the look of his head best in the in-package picture from the front. The packaging makes it look more elongated.

I hope they also do a Gaming Greats version with a headsculpt that matches his Rebels/Jedi Survivor head.

Does his right hand have a side-to-side hinge, or an up-and-down hinge? It's hard to tell from the promo shots.

From the HD images Etain posted (specifically the one with his hand behind his back showing the hilt storage, and the last image) it looks like a side-to-side joint.

From the short video posted though, it mentions he does have butterfly joints, so that lessens the blow for me personally.

While I still feel someone like Doug Jones would have been a better choice to play the character, Rupert Friend did a perfectly serviceable job, performance wise. It's just that the Grand Inquisitor's tall and slender physique is a key to his visual "alien" representation. Friend just looks like an average person in make-up, not an elongated species. George Lucas knew exactly why none other than Terrence Spence was cast as Tion Medon in ROTS.

Perhaps I'll buy this figure and see if I can scale down a Rebels Inquisitor headsculpt.

The figure looks good.
As for the character's outfit in the show, he still looks like bad cosplay as does 5th Brother. And while Rupert does a "decent" job of trying to portray the character certain quirks are missing, his demeanor often resembled Thrawn in many ways which is likely why they killed him off before Thrawn appears in Rebels. I felt that calm collected superior and experienced persona we came to associate with GI wasn't quite imbued the way it should have been in OWK thus making it feel like he was almost a different character. He also seemed unprepared for the betrayal by Reva when in Rebels he showed many times that he could anticipate a lot.

Great looking figure. The character could’ve been better on screen, maybe a little more menacing instead of being a chump but can’t wait to pick him up.

Not really sold on the images that came out today, from the teaser.
He looks too much like a mixture of:

But I am curious to see more.
This is all based on first impressions, obviously.

The one on the left, with a little Depp thrown in…

Is Retro popular? Din Djarin and Darth Vader sell through. But Ahsoka, Greef, Gideon, Bo-Katan, etc. warm the pegs in my neck of the woods.

I think the OG retro figures were for the obvious reasons, as would Retros of the Droids for those reasons. I just don't feel it's popular enough to make just any figure thus why you have Ahsoka, Bo etc. who don't sell through as well. Retro is a niche item and a callback so it stands to reason only certain figures should be made and not every singe one of them especially figures that never existed in Vintage to begin with

Personally I think if they're going to do a modern retro linenthey should absolutely have Mando, Ahsoka, Bo and Grogu. Otherwise it's just a small sprinkling of re-releases and a line with no future. Yes i know "re-release other vintage figures" but then its going to get into the nuts and bolts of who is really collecting the line. This is all coming from me - someone who doesn't collect the line, though. They don't seem to sell great in my area either.

When I saw the Grand Inquisitor in person at Celebration, he had dark eyes instead of the Sith-wannabe eyes that appeared in the show. I suspect the eyes were digitally altered in post-production, as his scenes in Kenobi promo material also showed dark eyes. I wonder if a running change will occur, or if we'll only be getting the dark-eyed version. The Sith-wannabe eyes really help the character look the part, it would be a shame if we can't get his figure as he appeared on screen.

Got him today, great figure of an OK character 👍🏻 Only thing I have to put some critic, the SG cape. It looks nice inside the box due the second plastic inlay, because it presses it into shape and gives it a straight, tight look. It unfolds a little when removed from box.

As always, I would have prefered a plasic cape 🤪

Gotcha! Very strong start to the month!

I like him better than I thought I would but I’m still hoping someone makes a good custom Rebels style head I can buy to put on him.

Hasbro will be licking their lips at how easy a re-issue that will be - just like Ashoka they can throw out the animated version with just a new headsculpt (I'm sure the body will be inaccurate to Rebels but personally I wouldnt care and would definitely double dip).

Yeah, but that would make sense, like doing an Agent Kallus with slight retooling of the imperial body buck. Never expect Hasbro to be smart about anything.
