The Emperor - Rumor 2012/13

Re: The Emperor

Hasbro needs to stop using material for the soft goods that looks like cheap gauze.....just awful. You wouldnt think a fig of an old dude in a robe would be so hard for them to do right.....

Re: The Emperor

I have no faith in Hasbro to finally get him exactly right... saddens me to say I agree that they still haven't topped the POTF2 figure.

Here's hoping they'll release him without the lightsaber... Yeah, Hasbro, we get that him and Sidious are the same guy so he used to weild a laser sword (and presumably still has it on the Death Star) but it's totally unnecessary for a RotJ Emperor to include one. The zombie Palpatine from ESB last year shouldn't have had it and I REALLY hope the 2011 figure just doesn't.

That looks good but as soon as you repose it all your futzing of the SG is undone...plus theres obviously a need for a band around it. I'd prefer a solid, great looking figure myself.
I got my Darth Vader SG where I liked it and sprayed the heck out of it with my wifes hair spray and it holds pretty good, done see why that cant be done with this Emperor figure and robe.

Thanks for answering my question movieman78.

As regards soft goods material, to a very large degree what fabric is used is actually determined by the factory. Hasbro can use whatever they like in mock-ups but the factory will use what they can source locally and as cheaply as possible. I know from speaking to Hasbro folks that they've been surprised in the past by what the factory has used and often by the time they see it, it's too late to change it. Hopefully they are well on top of that for future releases that will really depend on the right material (Senate duel Palpatine, among others) - there have certainly been some instances recently of very astute soft goods choices: Ghostly Anakin, Ahsoka, Ilum Padme, CW Ventress etc.

Re: The Emperor

This Emperor needs to hit the mark! The Hood should be sculpted and make it LARGE Hasbro! Look to the TPM Sidious figure for inspiration. His face should be droopy not angry!!! His expression needs to say "Im the ruler of the galaxy, and what?!" We dont need an enraged Emperor, we need the one from ROTJ!

Is this a wind up?

They key to the hood isnt Large. Look as the Saga one. It needs to be shaped well. "Droopy face"? WTF? Not angry? Not sure what you are getting at. Seems like you are describing the Saga one which was the worst one ever.

If the soft goods could be of a thicker material and hang in that fashion, I'd be all for it. I always liked that head sculpt, too. I'd like the remorseful facial feature...

'..I'm afraid they'll be fully operational when your friends arrive'

and that sinister grin. Yea, some of that...

That remorseful facial expression was what I always preferred on Palpatine because I find it so creepy. It is the exact OPPOSITE of what he truly is. That why I went with that on my custom ROTJ Emperor from a few years ago:

I have no idea how you reached this post from what I wrote. I kind of get the idea that you just want to start an argument on this thread like others do constantly, so I'm just gonna head this off and say I have no time for BS. I am very busy and I like to come on Rebelscum to unwind for a second and see what fellow scumers are talking about. Watch ROTJ and you'll see Palp's hood goes to his shoulders (which is a big hood) and he goes through the movie with a droopy face looking rather sad until he unleashes his force lightning on Luke.

Re: The Emperor

thats his "I'm a feeble old man, help me" face...I know the one you mean and I agree, it's whats needed in a good emperor figure..

What cloak is that? I must have it!

Re: The Emperor

Now that's a good soft goods cloak. It can be done but I just don't see it being done well on Hasbro's production level. That might not be a bad side business for us collectors...Good Jedi/Sith cloaks for the figs... I will pass it by my lil sis and see what she can do. anyone else half interested in something like this?

Well that cloak is a VERY deeply guarded secret. But we're all friends here so I'll tell you the full story of its origins. These beautifully crafted 3-3/4 inch scale black hooded robes with balloon sleeves were created by recently deceased doll pattern-maker monks from Hong Kong, in a workshop located high in the Tai Mo Shan mountain... the highest peak in the country.

The monks only created a small handful of these robes before the fine black fabric that they were using was depleted. Rather than make more robes with an inferior fabric, they opted to discontinue production and destroy all of their patterns.

Soon after, the workshop was consumed in a terrible fire that tragically killed off ALL of the monks and destroyed ALL of these miniature robes save for about 12 of them.

Action figure customizers everywhere have sought these highly coveted robes, and have paid handsomely for one of the 12 genuine articles.

About 7 years ago, I lucked into a small stash of about 5 of them and used one to create my custom SA Emperor action figure.

Really. That's the truth. Really. It is!!

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!
grin.gif

Actually, that robe is a tailored hooded robe that came with Hasbro's 1999 offering Sith Speeder and Darth Maul

It is made with a beautifully rich black fabric which is MUCH nicer than the thin, overly sheer, nasty SG robe of virtually ALL Emperor Palpatine releases. I opened up the sleeve cuffs, and used a spare cape to make the skirt and waist sash.

By the way, that robe was also made with the same fine black fabric used on the only Darth Vader action figure cape that was worth a damn: (the cape from 1999's Comm Tech Darth Vader / 2000's POTJ "Masters Of The Dark Side" Darth Vader/ and/or 2007's TAC Darth Vader from the "Capture of Tantive IV Battle Pack".

So there you have it! Good hunting!

Not getting my hopes up for this figure, although I'll remain optimistic cause I really want it. Unless they truly deliver it, no way I'm buying another Emperor!

Re: The Emperor

Yep DL has certainly shown what can be done, but it's tedious work. Don't expect Hasbro to ever come close to that.

Re: The Emperor

I am happy with this for my Emperor "Attack" version and I use the Legacy one from last year for a "Neutral" Emperor. It would be nice to see an improvement over either. It would be cool to one that can sit nicely on the throne?

Re: The Emperor

No ood ever convinced me since the more recent Emperor figures came out.

He still looks far too much like a Fantasy-story Dwarf to me.

Re: The Emperor

I agree, thats the most genius idea ever..this new Emperor should be made the same as slave Leia with two lower halves(seated/standing) Im sure they could fit a throne in there somehow..even if it means some assembly.
I've custom made many an Emperor and would also agree the Episode 1 Sidious has been the best sculpt so far by a mile..but i long for a new sculpt with no softgoods thank you very much
crazy.gif

Heres one i made outta Ep1 Sid.
Gave him a classic cardback, clamshell, new hands with cane & a lick of paint.

That's what I'm talking about! That looks great! No need to re-invent the wheel on this guy. Hasbro loves to re-hash old figures, but never do it when it makes sense. Do you have any more shots of him?

Re: The Emperor

This is totally turning into an 'Emperor Customs' thread!
grin.gif

I think using the EP1 Sidious as a base for a ROTJ Palpy wouldn't be that great, to be honest. Apart from the obvious fact that he wouldn't be able to sit, both versions have their own individual nuances.

Really, the best thing is to just come up with a nice SG robe for the current EVO figure, & give him a new ROTJ head. Add some lightning hands from the EVO set & the chair & that'd be a winner.

Re: The Emperor

I'd be all for that too, but the key there is a "nice SG robe". Really, if they could just get the hood right I'de be happy. As it stands, the Evo hood make him look like he's in the KKK. Palpatine has a pretty distinctive looking hood, and this just ain't it. Maybe they could put a wire in the hood, so it would hold it's shape properly.

Re: The Emperor

Yeah, they've already been incorporating wire into a few cloaks & robes thus far - eg; Comic Pack Bespin Lando & Order 66 Tsui Choi (little alien Jedi dude), so it's definitely a viable option.

Yes the EVO robe unaltered sucks - hard. Yes the TLC monkey face Palpy has a hood that looks like a plastic garbage bag. These things can be improved / avoided or just re-thought completely. However, a solid plastic robes & all Emperor would just be a bad idea. It's gotta be a good toy as well as nice looking little statue..

Re: The Emperor

the best cloak is definately the one from the Sith Accessory set. But it would be much better if they made a wire for the hood. Actually I might get someone to do that for me......

Re: The Emperor

That's it the hood will either kill it or make it. That pose at the end of ROTS. Was the S@#T!! But your right about him giving the appearance of being weak and fragile and then turn around and kick your farmboy ass!! THats the look we need. Subtle like the snake he is.

What in the heck would this even be? Between the TVC Palpatine and TLC Emperor, I'm not sure he needs another update!

Oh yeah, unless of course it's a shameless rerelease!

I think we need a well thought out and well sculpted definitive Palpatine. The other released have been good however there have always been aspects which needed improvement. Essentially a brand new headsculpt on the current TLC body would do in my opinion.

FINALLY!!!

Aside from my endless DSII Luke campaign, a great ROTJ Emperror was second on my list. If there is ANY way to include a throne that'd be a dream come true. However, if the rumored inema scenes come back, I'd love to see Final Jedi Duel updated!

Two heads would be better than one...

Hasbro has yet to nail an Emperor figure, sadly the ROTS versions they pump out do not represent the ROTJ version we all love.

Isn't amazing that a POTF figure still beats out everything Hasbro has put out over the last 10 or so years. Maybe Hasbro should use it as a base.

The ESB Legacy one is amazing.

Other than the long cloak, I agree that the Legacy ESB Emperor was well done - I'd like to see the robe updated, using a thicker fabric and reduced to the proper length. I also think they should stick with a plastic hood unless they can make softgoods work. The idea for 2 swappable heads is a really good idea, a neutral face and an angry face from his attack on Luke.

if we do get treated to a new Emperor Palpatine then I seriously hope that Hasbro includes a nice scale detailed throne for him to sit on. it's long overdue. also include both his cane, ROTS lightsaber (needs to be done), Luke's lightsaber hilt and cool looking Force Lighting Effects....

The old Kenner Emperor Palpatine figure and the Power of the Force 2 Emperor figures were and still are the best.

The other Return of the Jedi Palpatine figures in the other series are really crappy.
