The Black Series 6" - General Discussion Thread

I really don't get the love for Durge
TBH, I've never cared for both Durge or Grievous. Though Durge just felt way to wacko of a character, being basically indestructible. Glad he was animated only. if I could come up with the five least wanted figures, they would place around 20th below that.
That said, I own both! lol

cool name ✅
cool design✅

His near indestructability never was a problem for me. I'm suprised they still haven't brought him back as a new main villain for TM. They recanonized him in a magazine clipping a year or 2 ago:LOL:

I like Durge but all the previous versions of him have been garbage. Had the Clone Wars version from the mid-2000s but sold it because it was an unarticulated hunk of plastic with crappy accessories.

Durge over Pong Krell any time.
I really loved Durge in the old EU / Legends comics. He kind of had a little VENOM-vibe to me. Would be awesome if he gets a chance for life-action somehow.
Anyway, my vote hoes for Durge. Krell just doesn't it for me, besides as species figure, I'd prefer Dexter instead

The majority of voters said "nein!" to Nunb at the polls yesterday, and it was "auf Wiedersehen!" to Wesell. Both unique characters fell to their opponents, the 212th Airborne Trooper and the 41st Elite Scout, respectively.

212th Airborne Trooper (58%) vs. Nien Nunb (42%)
41st Elite Scout (63%) vs. Zam Wesell (37%)

If, like me, you're finding it hard to see unique characters lose to (what would be largely) repaints…please, don’t lose heart. Stay involved. Indeed, let’s take this to the Max, and vote!

Master Dooku (TOTJ) vs. Vader (ROTS, Transformation)
Max Rebo (ROTJ) vs. Kyle Katarn

212th Airborne Trooper
41st Elite Scout
A very big yawn here. And I'm a very big Clone Trooper fan! I sometime have to wonder about people in general, that you've vote for something Hasbro will make anyway. I totally get "wanting" a certain figure, but when it comes to polls and voting for stuff, I see it as a way to voice to Hasbro interest in character that they wouldn't possibly know about or immediately go to. Tough I do give them props for attempting things like Jaxxon or Joruus. I they made Naga Sadow in 6' Scale I'd be very tempted to get it! Only because they likely wouldn't release it in 3.75" scale.

Oh, and if not, just a Sith species figure! But by all means, make a Naga Sadow.

OK, got Dooku and R2. Things are uncharacteristically staying in stock. Maybe people aren't rushing to buy figures now that they average $25+ each. It adds up really quick.

The only figure that sold out was that GI Joe Crystal Ball which I had zero interest in, so yay for me I guess. The stuff I want isn't in big demand which is fine by me.

I just hope I can finally get a Dooku with eyes that are looking straight rather than off to the side.

I think it’s a combination of the price and these are just repacks on an oversized card that’s going to be a pain to get in good shape and to store. At least that’s why I didn’t order any of them. But a brand new gi Joe figure? Yes please!

I bought Cody cause I wanted at least one fighter on the beautiful vintage packaging and the order 66 hologram was enough to feel like it was something unique. I caved on the Tactical Ops Trooper yesterday. Tempted on R2 but gonna stay strong because no stand. No chance on Dooku and Fisto. So 2/5 for me.

I know most of these are coming thankfully (not sure on what packaging) but imagine if they did a proper wave 1 of ROTS vintage packaging that had actually had figures people wanted? I would have been 6/6. And then I may have been inclined to finish the set if they included some repacks in Wave 2 or 3 (there were so many better choices than the ones they chose).

Wave 1
New Anakin
New Obi-Wan
Supreme Chancellor Palpatine
Yoda (2 Pack Repack)
Kashyyk Scout Trooper
327th Trooper

Regardless of wave choices we are basically one month out from the theatrical re-release. The fact we don’t have some of the best figures announced and in line to release in that packaging around the time of the anniversary is a huge fail for so many reasons.

We should know at least 70% of the ROTS figures coming by now, with most of them releasing in April and May, with the final Wave 3 announcement coming either opening weekend to support the film or on Star Wars Day to celebrate.

How do they pooch these timelines so badly? It’s not like this hasn’t been a static calendar observation for years now or anything!

Voters were reppin’ for Rebo at the polls yesterday, securing the Jizz-wailer’s win over Kyle Katarn. And though intercepted transmissions do hint that TOTJ Dooku may be on his way, his Jedi powers held sway over those of a traumatized Vader.

Master Dooku (TOTJ) (61%) vs. Vader (ROTS, Transformation) (39%)
Max Rebo (ROTJ) (58%) vs. Kyle Katarn (42%)

Clone captains face-off in today’s matchups, and Huttslayer Leia’s back for Round 2. You know what to do!

Captain Gregor vs. Captain Grey
Leia Organa (ROTJ, Huttslayer) vs. Taron Malicos

Sexy Time Leia, always!

Voters agreed that it’s time to unleash an all-new Leia: the Huttslayer more than skinned by in her matchup with Taron Malicos. And given the choice between Captains Gregor and Grey, the majority chose to go Commando.

Captain Gregor (73%) vs. Captain Grey (27%)
Leia Organa (ROTJ, Huttslayer) (67%) vs. Taron Malicos (33%)

In today’s matchups are Nightsister Merrin and Ninth Sister Inquisitor, each against the inevitable clones. What do we need more in The Black Series? Now’s your chance to vote!

Merrin (JFO) vs. Clone Kix
Arc Trooper (2003) vs. Ninth Sister Inquisitor

Just give her a whip and call her Dom Leia!
Been there, done that...

Merrin's got my sword, bow and axe!

Indeed, the fellowship was with Merrin: she took a 16% majority over her opponent, Clone Kix. The battle between Ninth Sister and Tartakovsky’s Arc Trooper was much more intense, with the big fig falling at last to the big gun. (But would the clone really come with the gun?)

Merrin (JFO) (58%) vs. Clone Kix (42%)
Arc Trooper (2003) (51%) vs. Ninth Sister Inquisitor (49%)

Mothers meet in today’s matchups, as do Lord Starkiller and the last remaining clone. Which of these will advance to the Sweet 16? It’s up to you. Vote!

Queen Amidala (Theed Palace) vs. Mother Talzin
Lord Starkiller vs. Commander Thorn

It's not looking good for Mother T. (currently 35%) but she is up against the Queen of mothers in this GFFA.

Which one would be most likely produced by Hasbro without the user input?
I am quite confident they'd go for Amidala too.
However, it's the extremely boring version ... IMHO.

My vote is for Mother Talzin - it's just a way more interesting character, and a tad bit larger than standard too.
Plus she's the Mother of Maul! She'd go well with Merrin also.

Also, Savage is on the way, so ... Mother Talzin  the Zabraks need their matriarch.
Edit: As one of the comments in the poll points out: Palpatine kind of feared Talzin due to her powers and sorcery.
How is that not an interesting figure? Now go vote for her! :-D instead of boring-queen-I-date-underage-psychos

Between matriarchs, the majority chose the Mother of Heroes. And those among us weary of clones have one less Thorn in our sides, thanks to Starkiller’s slick extrication.

Queen Amidala (Theed Palace) (63%) vs. Mother Talzin (37%)
Lord Starkiller (68%) vs. Commander Thorn (32%)

The above polls concluded Round 2.

As we head into the Sweet 16, let’s look at some breakdowns:
  • 7 of the remaining contestants hail from animated shows (CW/TCW and TOTJ, exclusively)
  • 5 from the Prequel Trilogy
  • 2 from the Original Trilogy
  • 2 from Gaming
5 clones remain on the bracket, at least 3 of which would require new tooling. There are 11 unique characters, including 5 aliens, and 2 big figs in the tournament.

Lukenessmonster seems to be shuffling characters according to ranking for each refreshed bracket. The new matchups are seen below:

bracket, Round 3.jpg

Today, rogue Jedi Quinlan Vos meets the personified darkness of Umbara, and Wookiee warrior Tarfful faces the regenerative Gen’Dai, Durge. This would seem a colorful contest. Vote!

Pong Krell vs. Quinlan Vos
Durge vs. Tarfful

Durge all the way. I'm fully on board the PT train, very much wanting many PT characters like Gunray, Watto, Zam, Panaka, Office Duel Palpatine, Saesee Tinn, Geonosian Warriors, NEW ROTS Obi Wan and Anakin, the remaining Clone Commanders and types, and Gungan Warriors. Tarfful would be extremely cool...

...but it's Durge. He's a huge, wacky, clayface-like metamorph alien bounty hunter in rad armor with a skull-brandishing space Harley. Unless your name is Kyle Katarn or Dash Rendar, there isn't much that I'd pick over him.

Looks like my boys are being voted out.
Quinlan and Tarfful - I suspect they will not survive this round.
I also suspect Lukenessmonsters audience to be very partial to TCW. :)

Exactly what I am thinking, way to much clones/TCW from the beginning.
He should have done a fair start with a focus on each starting brench. A quarter OT, a quarter PT/ST, a quarter TCW/clones and a quarter EU/new media

IMO that would have been fair. I bet the final will be a clone vs clone

The good news is that the OOTB guys (Nate and Justin), who have shared similar qualms about Lukenessmonster’s bracket, are prepping a community-driven tournament. Justin has reached out to Tim of Bossk’s Bounty to learn the ways of Last Figure Standing, and has received Tim’s blessing to create a similar poll for the TBS community. They are hoping to launch it in May.

It’s not wise to upset a Wookiee…unless, perhaps, you are Gen’Dai. Durge dusted Tarfful in yesterday’s contest, and Pong picked apart Quinlan Vos. The carnage of Krell continues.

Pong Krell (65%) vs. Quinlan Vos (35%)
Durge (64%) vs. Tarfful (36%)

Two of the more interesting clone designs are on the bracket today. But their competition is fierce. Go vote!

Galactic Marine vs. Lord Starkiller
Embo (TCW) vs. 41st Elite Scout

I mean, that's all dandy and stuff, but... why can't Hasbro do an official poll? If they are so gagged by the IP owners that they can't do such a thing, then these fan-polls are kinda useless either.

Slowly, slowly, the Lukenessmonster bracket is being stripped of clones. Yesterday, both the 41st Elite Scout and the Galactic Marine fell to formidable opponents. Embo and Lord Starkiller will stand among the Elite 8.

Galactic Marine (47%) vs. Lord Starkiller (53%)
Embo (TCW) (57%) vs. 41st Elite Scout (43%)

Two more troopers face off today, as do royalty and nobility. The contest is close. Vote!

212th Airborne Trooper vs. Arc Trooper (2003)
Queen Amidala (Theed Palace) vs. Master Dooku (TOTJ)

I hope the spreadsheet nerds at Hasbro aren’t putting much stock in this poll. Max Rebo is the only figure left I’d get. I really like Lukeness Monster’s channel. And he seems like a good kid. But this poll is his personal want list. Which is cool. It’s just waaaay to slanted to prequels and cartoons for me.

That's pretty close to my feelings as well, about the poll and Lukeness. Although for me it's not so much the prequel stuff (non-fan though I am), but the clone focus. After all, there's a bunch of PT aliens that would pique my interest, like Utapauns. (And not just for the OT-connection!) Were there even any Neimoidians or Geonosians in the poll?

I'm still utterly bemused that they all had names in the movies other than Cody.
I definitely made the right decision giving up buying clones last year. Its saving me a fortune.

So slowly building my collection up since I'm new-ish to the line has made my wants really stand out. I break things down into subset collections. For example: Bespin. Bespin would still need Leia in her gown. Jabba's Palace would still need Han Solo. I think those specific examples are probably pretty high in their chances of being made eventually. But it makes me wonder what the chances of some of the lesser roles are. If I were to want to add one more role to Bespin outside of Leia (gown), it would be Lobot. For Endor, it's the AT-ST Driver. For the Death Star, it's the Gunner. For Rebels, it's Nien Nunb. But then the prequels are hurting perhaps even more.
