Thank you Rev. SO they really have just re-used the old A Wing design. Having said that, I rather like the Rebels compactness

Apparently the M6 stands for Multicaliber 6 and refers to the shoulder mounted gun. It looks more sabretooth tiger to me than gorilla

Just my little test......I'm meant Megacaliber 6

Now you mention it.....

Here's a question. Toy Run facebook group have put up this comparison pic of the Rebels A Wing and Ep 8 A Wing. There's quite a difference, which had me wondering if the new version is alot larger that the OT one, or did Hasbro just reduce the size of the Rebels iteration to lower costs ?

Somebody posted this review, about half way through he gets to the A-Wing and compares the size of all three near the end:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h89e2UdpF5s

The Blue A-Wing is the same size and length when viewed from above but flatter from the front. It's engines stick out longer too. Otherwise it's not vastly different, only a little.

Just like the sequel era X-Wings represent a subtle twist on the classic design, so too the new sequel era A-Wing is subtly distinct from her predecessor. The new toy is totally new tooling based on this new design but scales well with the classic era A-Wing toy.

Indeedy ! Didn't spot them. And what, my friends, are your thoughts on the new Mega Deluxe Uber Destroyer ?

Wheres this image from? It looks like a cross between a SD and an old school Romulan ship.

Looks like a cross between the Executor and Padme's AOTC Royal Cruiser to me. I am surprised to see it. This movie seems to have a lot of huge Star Destroyers, now. It wil be interesting to see how their roles in the fleet and story differ.

Agree with Rev, first thing that came to mind for me too. They really need to stop with all of the 'its the same as before but BIGGER!' garbage. Size isn't everything, it's how the military hardware is used.

Not sure DS, I picked it up off Twitter but it's knocking around a few places now. Reminds me of a B2 Bomber

Well maybe not canon ships, but the planform is reminiscent of the FASA Romulan Whitewing class. :)
I know that ship! I was a FASA Starship Combat dork in the 90s. :) Loved that game. By modern standards it's not all that Romulan looking now, but back in the day we didn't have as much to go on. FASA's Romulan craft were often quite blocky. This one was supposed to be a contemporary of the 1701A, as I recall. I kinda liked the Whitewind back then. Now that we have seen so many new designs and the more flowing aesthetic is firmly established, she seems a little inelegant. Someone did a nice job working up a 3D model though ...

Yeah, there've been nice CGI updates on the net over the years, particularly the Ranger Class (from The Strider Incident) which accounts for the looks of the nacelles to appear better proportioned for a ship that size. Also, the V-30 Winged Defender is mentioned to be evenly matched with the Constitution Class....I still have the ship Recognition/Construction manuals. We're we taking about Star Wars here??? :D

Has anyone managed to get a decent image of the new Raddus Mon Cal cruiser that's being talked about ? It appeared briefly on an app

Based on the trailer, it does indeed look a great deal like the Viscount, which is cool because we have that great SSB model already. Did anyone snap some shots from the trailer of the Resistance fleet?

Sure thing ...

Crystal cavern chase...

Poe's suped up X-Wing...

First Order ships and ground craft, including walkers that are very close to their classic era progenitors, and what look like walker-carrier craft!

Is that thing on the right in the first pic a cross between a Nebula Frigate and a Hammerhead ?

Great pics - thank you :)

Thanks Rev, I'm most interested in finding out whats flying in the Resistance fleet, I think from the various shots, we're seeing 5 different types of ships at least. In the first image, that does look like a Hammerhead / Nebulon frigate mash up on the right. I'm assuming the center ship is the Raddus, the Mon Cal ship Leia is flying in. The left appears to be a transport, but I cant imagine they're still using those old GR-75 ships.

In another age we could expect to see most of these new designs make it to the shelves but with such frequent movie output these days I suspect Mattel will cherry pick

So true, at least we have the Resistance Bomber already, its a great escort ship. I doubt we'll see anymore Resistance fleet ships, unless the Raddus plays a bigger role. I'm still upset coverage for RO was so lackluster - Profundity and the Hammerhead cruiser should have been made.

Disney stores have two diecast ships this time round for TLJ. Saw them in Birmingham uk last night, was quite surprised to see them! They're probably double the size of the last Disney diecast a we got, and come with a little figure. Poe's x wing has the new booster engine on the back too. Couldn't pick them up last night as was going to a gig but will definitely be purchasing. For £15.99 they look really good!!

Can't seem to link to the website using my phone

Great news Squidgey - I shall hunt for these. The trend does seem to be for larger ships, doesnt it ?

Post movie viewing thoughts:

sooooo many ships and vehicles in TLJ that we won't see as Micromachines and Titaniums, etc. Dangit. How disappointing.
Sigh...so true. I want to see Leia's ship made most of all - but the FO had some interesting capital ships. I even liked the Resistance transport / escape pods!

We need to do an audit of how many new ships there actually was. I think I lost count at 16

Here's my list of new ship and vehicle designs, from memory. If anyone has the Visual Dictionary they should be able to make a far more comprehensive list and correct any of my spelling or naming mistakes:

Space Vessels:

Resistance:
Leia's flagship Mon Calamari Cruiser Raddus
Vice Admiral Holdo's Support Cruiser Ningka
Resistance Medical Frigate
Unnamed/specified Resistance Support Cruiser
Resistance Personnel Shuttle
Resistance Travel Pod
Poe’s Boosted T-70 X-Wing
Resistance A-Wing

First Order:
Resurgent-class Star Destroyer
Snoke’s Super Star Destroyer Supremacy
Mandator-IV-class Dreadnought
First Order Shuttle
TIE Silencer
First Order TIE Bomber

Unaligned:
DJ’s ‘acquired’ ship

Surface or Atmospheric Vessels:

Resistance:
Rebel Ski Speeder

First Order:
AT-M6 Gorilla Walker
First Order Scout Walker (name?)
First Order AT-AT analog (name?)
First Order (name?) crawler vehicle tugging the big gun? Is this the Heavy Scout Walker?
First Order Surface Cannon (the name eludes me at this moment)

Unaligned:
Canto Bight Police Speeder
Canto Bight Luxury Yacht
Canto Bight Street Speeders (at least 3 different sorts)

I picked up the Visual Guide, and the Ninka, Holdo's ship, is the small refit blockade runner type that appears very flat in the movie, almost like a BSG ship. The medical frigate, Nebulon-C is called the Anodyne, the other support ship which has a forward hull similar to a Rebel transport, but he aft section of a Separatist type ship is called the Vigil. They also used a number of Resistance bombers, designated MG-100 Starfortress ships.

I wish MM were still around - the Raddus, Anodyne, and Ninka would make for a killer 3-pack.

Excellent! I love the notion that some of the ships repurpose parts or hulls from older craft. I'm looking forward to Christmas Day when I can crack open my copy of the Guide. :D Sounds like it has some great content.

I completely forgot the Bomber. Thanks, Sid!
