Now those toys were meant to last.

This is a reason my kids play with vintage Star Wars and Mego super heroes. Even now, 30-40 years later, they hold up better than today's crap, with their spaghetti limbs due to breathing on them the wrong way.

Given the F-P Adventure People's place in the history of 3.75" action figures (look no further than here ), it would be a cool nod to pre-Kenner figures in this scale.

That link you provided makes me want those horrifically distorted mock ups now! Especially the Tusken and that weird large headed black stormtrooper (as seen on this page). I don't know if I would need them carded, unless there is also a mock up card back to go with them. Maybe just as a early bird type set.

Don't think it would be a good idea to make Kenner style figures out of every random film or tv property. They should focus soley on stuff that came out in the 80's, since that was the proper era for that style of figure. Hopefully Super7/Funko know how to pick the winners. My choices would be Dark Crystal, Dune, and Blade Runner.

Yes, I kind of feel the same. I would also love to see Indiana Jones be continued in the line. It occured to me there is actually only one modern/post 80's property I would like to see Kenner style ReAction figures of, being the new Star Wars movies starring the original cast! Wouldn't that be totally awesome?

In addition to some of the lines already confirmed, I would love to see figures from Legend, Flash Gordon, Dune, Clash of the Titans, Time Bandits, Labyrinth, the Indiana Jones Trilogy, the Classic Star Trek films, Star Trek: TNG, Krull, Dragonslayer, and of course, the continuation of the Vintage Star Wars line ;).

Just had a thought, and went back through the thread to confirm it. Only TheRealDub has mentioned this so far - 3 3/4" Planet of the Apes figures! I don't think they've ever made a POTA line smaller than Mego's 8" one in the 70's (and Hasbro's for the 2001 remake), and it is surely a big enough property to be successful, especially with the last movie doing really well and the sequel on the way.

The other thought I had was concerning my earlier statement that most of these ideas we've been coming up with are too niche to work. However, if they've confirmed lines like Rocketeer and Escape From New York, I can't see why we can't have a Krull, V, or even Spacehunter.

I'm getting really excited about this line. Don't think it's going to be hard to spend more on this than Star Wars in 2014.

Do they even still make Star Wars figures?

I wouldn't be surprised if the figures for Episode 7 are 5 POA Kenner-style, given Hasbro's cheapening out of many of their action figure lines the last few years. With that said, I'd still buy them in a second.

I said it in another thread somewhere but if Hasbro did start making ONLY 5 POA figures, as long as they were on vintage style cards I'd be fine with it mostly (as someone who also likes more articulation), at least it would satisfy my ability to appreciate the nostalgia aspect to the hobby.

I wouldn't mind the first year being all 5POA figures then a year later releasing perfect sculpted articulated figures. Usually with movie releases Hasbro releases several versions of main characters, this way we can have vintage like figures and then articulated figures later on without having 3 or 4 releases of the same character.

My recollection is that the figures release during movie years at always sub-par when compared to in-between years. I'm not going to get too excited about Episode VII figures just yet.

Who cares about what Hasbro does or doesn't do - especially for a movie not even released yet!

Let's get back to the Reaction line!

Although, I will say, Hasbro's license ends in 2018. It will be VERY nice if they lose it to Super 7/Funko, then they can scale back from the overproduced crap and just give us real vintage styled figures, and none of this mini statue crap that just breaks and/or warps too easily anyway.

DOWN WITH SUPER-ARTICULATION!!!

I wonder if the Trek figures will be based on the original series not the JJ Abrams version. I would remind me a lot of the Mego 3 3/4 inch figures that came out in 1979.

They're labeled "Classic", so I'm guessing original series, or the original cast movies.

I wouldn't kick a retro Khan figure out of bed for eating crackers.

With the possibility of seeing these franchises (especially Firefly) come to 3.75" life with this ReAction line my brain has officially crapped itself in excitement.
I am extremely pleased with this Alien set. The promo shots don't do them true retro justice so I took these shots with them on my Spaceport playset to sort of give them a little life in a play setting for those not sold on them yet. One of the reasons I built that playset was in anticipation of the release of this Alien set.
Opening them up literally felt like a 1979 Christmas.

And the additional figure sets you guys mentioned are excellent choices.
I would LOVE to see Space Hunter, Battle Beyond the Stars, Star Raiders etc.
There are so many great retro lines that could be retooled like Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, Black Hole and Battlestar Galactica (old and or new) would be amazing.

I cannot believe no one has mentioned Marvel and DC yet. I know MU is all the rage..But what I want is the seventies versions in retro action style. Shang Chi, Ms. Marvel, etc. Superman for crying out loud! Blue Batman and Robin. Mego kind of did some but all looked like they were holding their junk. Do them in the RA style and I would buy them all.

You don't know of Kenner's mid-80's Super Powers line? Had a TON of DC figures. Then there was the Marvel Secret Wars figures by Mattel that had a decent range of popular Marvel characters.

I think the Super7/Funko guys should do TWO lines... retro and modern-SA 3.75". That would hopefully end the debate There are some figures (like Alien and Aliens) that I would buy in retro form, but other than that probably not much else. On the other hand, doing figures in 3.75" with modern sculpting and articulation would entice me to buy a lot.

I've already said to the NECA guys that if they did their Alien/Predators line in 3.75" scale I'd basically have no choice but to write them a blank cheque. I want to see Blade Runner, TRON, Mad Max, Road Warrior, etc. in SA goodness. And not flimsy, fragile figures like those awful ones made by Underground Toys for Dr Who 3.75"... saw those at my LCS last week and couldn't believe how wimpy they looked. Follow the Hasbro SA look (either SW or GI Joe).

Super 7 is already doing multiple lines of product for several of the licenses that they have. I think it would probably be a bad business decision to try to make a super articulated 3 3/4" line to compete with what already seems to be doing well format- The ReAction figures. I believe it's a smart choice they are making in that the Legacy 6" line will be the articulated collector friendly line. Maybe a few years into the ReAction figures after they have made a name for themselves with action figure they could venture into super articulated 3 3/4 " figures. For now though they are making a good choice in the way they are presenting these.

I wonder what might be shown at next month's Toyfair. Hopefully, they have completed some prototypes. This line is the most exciting for me. I hope they all end up having that old Kenner feel. I would love to see Magnum, Pi. This whole idea could be huge if done right.

Maybe it's just me but I don't like all the new super articulated 3.75" stuff out today (Iron Man, Spiderman, Marvel Universe, etc.) I'm collecting the ReAction line for nostalgia. I want the figures exactly like they would have been in the 80's.

I'm in full agreement here. I'm happy for a return of these simpler lines. If 5 POA means that we will get as much variety in figures as Funko does with Pops, then we are in for some good times. I just can't understand all the resentment towards this. I'm just happy to see all these announcements for licenses that if we had to wait for Hasbro to super articulate, we would all be waiting for that cold day in hell.

I still think my idea is better. It's clear there are those who want 5POA and those who want SA (and I don't mean 6", I could care less). I'll be sorry to be skip getting some long-wanted characters made in action figure form if it's only 5POA, but even as a kid I recall that the second the better-articulated GI Joes came out, those SW Kenner figures wound up in my toy chest (which ironically is why they're in better condition even today than the heavily-played with Joes). We'll have to agree to disagree but I'm pushing for SA sooner rather than later.

SA = not being able to hold a pose or stand by itself 10 minutes or less after removing from the package....

It's not gonna happen for the bulk of these brands. They're too niche, and producing an SA line for them would end up being way to expensive for most collectors.

Besides, it's not the point. :)

The entire purpose of the ReAction (a portmanteau of Retro and Action) is that they're retro styled figures.

And I think most action figure collectors outside of the Star Wars/GI Joe echo chamber prefer the 6" scale. I think that's the smart move for an SA "realistic" option. You can achieve way more at that scale in terms of accessories and detail than at 4".

I wouldn't mind if, I think it was Hot Toys, continued that highly detailed 3 3/4" Aliens snap together figures. I just don't think that type of figure fits what Funko is trying to do here, but then again they are going to do a highly articulated and detailed 6" line. So what do I know? Lol

3. Stylistically will the ReAction line follow the model established by the Alien figures (neutral pose, straight arms, legs) creating consistency across all the ReAction properties? Yes absolutely. We want everything to feel like a Kenner Star Wars figure from 1978.

WIN!!!

I got a Big Chap coming with my NECA ED-209 order, so I'm excited to get my first ReAction figure! This will be the .01% of my collection that I keep on card, though- I love the look of the packaged figure and I don't really "need" it open since there isn't toy nostalgia for me. It's just love of all things Alien/Aliens

A Clockwork orange (I pray for a 12" sideshow line) G Force and a good Dr Who (Tom Baker years) 3 3\4" line would be swell.

Nice, meaty interview with Brian Mariotti of Funko. In short: playsets are coming and Toy Fair is going to blow our minds.

Action Figure Insider » Reacting to ReAction: 10 Questions with Brian Mariotti of Funko

Thanks for the link to the interview :) you know the more I hear about the ReAction line the more I think I may well just give up on the Hasbro line, except for Mission Series and Saga Legends, because I love the Alien figures so much, that to get Classic Star Trek, Buffy, Universal Monsters and others in that same scale and style would be like a dream come true!

Can't wait to get my hands on the new retro 3.75 inch Six Million Dollar Man figures :D

I think Disney's The Black Hole would be suited for this line.

It would be awesome if the continued they Mattel Battlestar Galactica line, since we never got an Apollo. Other needed figures are Boomer, Athena, Boxey, Sheba, Col. Tigh, Borellian Nomen, Tucana singer, Hector & Vector, Dr. Zee.

That would be awesome. Especially if they were very similar to the original toyline.

Then maybe people who could never get those super rare figures like S.T.A.R. and The Humanoid had an alternative.
