Looks great! I like that they kept some of the asymmetry from the original helmets. Hope the production piece comes out that well.

The helmet could be a bit more accurate, but overall it is nice, and I will pre-order it when available

I just pre-ordered this. When it arrives I'll compare it to the 1:3 helmets I already have (RS Prop Masters "Stop that ship" and Pure Arts), because the TIE Pilot bust from GG is not quite 1:2

Thanks. Did not know that. I'm guessing the 1/5 is now impossible to find... :(

If I may interject and offer some info, as I also have this version ...

It does pop up on Ebay from time to time and it is one which maintains a high secondary market value, usually priced higher than other Attakus statues on the 1/5 scale, even higher than the second Attakus 1/5 scale Vader version which is holding his lightsaber (also a great sculpt), most likely because of his commanding pose. It took me a few years to get mine because at some point it was being sold for over $1000, and it wasn't a price I was willing to pay. About two/three years ago I finally found one within my budget. My recommendation, if you are determined to get one, is to be patient and take your time looking around for the best deal possible.

Ah, should have know, by the base. Good pose. Now I want one :)
It's not 1/6, right? 9" ?
As mentioned above there are 2 versions of the Attakus statue(s). I wasn't home, so couldn't reply with details. The 1/5 statues from the French company Attakus are quite beautiful, and Vader v.1 is considered among the best Vader statues out there, only Iron Studios might be above it. Then there are the newer 1/10 statues, which are a scaled copy of the 1/5.

Of course the larger 1/5 are more sought after. The prices are all over the place, there are a couple Attakus Vader v.1 on ebay for years, as the sellers ask over $1000 for them. I found mine for way less, from a French member here. Two years ago I helped a friend get Vader and 2 Stormies for 800 Euros plus shipping, an insanely good price.

Below 1/5 Darth Vader and mini-me 1/10 version:

Regarding the size of the Gentle Giant 1/2 TIE Pilot bust compared with 1/3 Stormie helmets, here is a comparison shot:

scaled helmets.jpg

The TIE Pilot bust is not quite 1/2, I also compared it with a HCG 1/2 Terminator 2 Endoskull bust. In reality the TIE Pilot helmet is one of the biggest Star Wars helmets, all that because of the APH top (present on Rebel pilot helmets) on the Stormie faceplate. So I'm guessing that the GG 1/2 Stormie bust will not be much larger than the 1/3 helmets you can see in the pic above.

Still I'm getting it as it is my collecting focus, and despite its minor issues, I like it. And I like the GG 1/2 TIE Pilot bust too.

These half scale busts are not for me. Not really into armless busts, and I already have the Stormtrooper mini bust and a life-sized helmet. This is more for people with sort of a fixation to collecting all sizes of a same character, nothing wrong with that, but I prefer to optimize my space with more variety. Good luck to those that order it, though.

This still currently says Q4 2022 at most places. That’s probably out the window but does anyone think we could see this in January at least?

These are starting to pop up on eBay and some online retailers. I went ahead and got one from Amazon because I had some credit there. Will post pics when it gets here, fingers crossed it looks as nice as the promo shots!

I agree. I was gonna pick one up but I wasn't sure and I figured I'll just wait to see the final product until I decide. I hate that I feel continually hesitant to pre-order from DST/GG but with their track record I think personally it's the right thing to do these days.

Managed to pick one up for a half decent price so pulled the trigger. Pretty nice piece especially the base that’s done in a dark gunmetal grey. Really happy with this one. I’d recommend it especially for trooper fans.

Excuse the reflections - it’s a bright sunny day here.

Thanks for the pics! Looks like another solid trooper bust for this line. Mine should be here today.

I actually love it! Sorry for the low light pics but the ups guy got here late. Per the messy ear caps; I’m almost definitely in the minority here but I quite like them as a lot of the original background helmets were similarly painted kind of clumsily. I didn’t know what they were going for with the base until I saw it up close but it’s some section of the E-11 or DLT-19 blaster. Last 2 pics to show scale. I’m happy with it!

The Gentle Giant Stormtrooper Legends in 3-Dimensions bust arrived a couple days ago. It is a very nice bust, in many ways similar to the TIE Pilot from the same line. Not sure if it is quite 1/2 but still has a nice size and weight. I compared it to two 1/3 helmets, a very accurate Set-For-Stun scale helmet made by RS Prop Masters in an run years ago and a Hero helmet made by Pure Arts SDS.

The helmet is decently accurate, could be better, could be worse. It is like a hybrid of two Stormtrooper helmets, idealized to a point - the interesting thig is that if you look down on the bust from its top, you can see the asymmetry of the top of the helmet, but it doesn't translate to other parts of the faceplate alas. Like I said the helmet could have been more accurate. Still better that some other helmets present on busts, figures or statues from various companies.

One of the cons is the base, I get that it is inspired by the DLT-19 heavy rifle carried by Stormtroopers and Sandtroopers, but it is not as stable as the TIE Pilot bust one, because the flat surface touching the ground has a small surface, so be careful when displaying it and not touch it or it might topple in front. Nice concept, poor execution. I'd say 8/10

Thanks Julian. It is a very nice bust, despite its accuracy and stability issues. I hope GG makes an AT-AT Driver some day
BTW you have email.

BTW you have email.

The Tie fighter pilot and Stormtrooper look very cool together, and fit right in with your Imperial collecting focus. Did you already find a place for them? Any type of re-arrangement you had to do? And as for the email I got , what can I say but: You made my day, Sergiu! :)
