Star Wars Outlaws is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi!
The Galactic Empire relentlessly pursues the final defeat of the Rebel Alliance, and the criminal underworld is thriving.
Kay will take on high-risk, high-reward missions from the galaxy’s crime syndicates as she seeks the means to start a new life.

Parts of it look good/interesting, but I'm not so sure about the era it's set in. For me they've already been too much focus there.
Plus it's yet another game where you can't choose your character's species and I'm tiring of constantly being inundated with human main characters. If it's truly open world that's how they should be doing the game to fully immerse you in said experience by letting you customize the character.

I’m super excited about an open world Star Wars game! Hopefully, it’s the first of many. Characters look great, and the storyline seems very interesting, too.

I’m looking forward to ordering drinks in a cantina, playing sabaac and whatever else the creators come up with for random activities off mission.

This has instabuy all over it and i'll preorder as soon as i can. .

I've only been playing open world style games pretty recently and i am very much excited by this. Looking forward to gameplay pictures, though.

The ship looks a bit bland. I hope you can upgrade it as you progress.

It'll be interesting to see what merchandise comes from this game, too.

I don't know how the process works with games but it looks a lot like a reskin of jedi Survivor, only with updated/changed control functions for combat and things for the "pet" to do. Still early but I would have liked a bit more info on some of the mechanics of interaction and customization possibilities. I look forward to playing it as I do most Star Wars themed games, I just hope the story doesn't detract from the rather cool looking elements.

Lastly, I hope that this game doesn't affect the KotOR remake in any way. I know it's a different company but if LFL feels the priority should be on "their" character over one from 20 years ago it could take even longer for it to happen if at all. And they definitely aren't going to want their game competing with one that was so universally loved.

This is a completely different publisher and developer - there won't be a single line of shared code (ignoring things like "middleware").

That said, I'd be totally fine with a non-Jedi, blaster focussed version of Survivor that lets you sneak around when you want.

My guess is there won't be much customisation in this because it seems very "cutscene to live gameplay" heavy. I know Survivor reflects what you're wearing in the cutscenes but they got to test that out in Fallen Order (I'm convinced the reason you only had a poncho in the first game was so they didn't have to recreate all the outfits).

That said, they people making this did the Division games, which were all about customising your character, so maybe.

I don't hold out much hope for KotOR. Sounds like its in DevHell. Outlaws is out in 2024 - given what we've heard about KotOR that won't be out next year, and I don't think they really compete - this is a third person shooter with space combat, KotOR is pure RPG.

I really hope there's more of a connection between Kyle Katarn and Jaylen than the resemblance. Kyle Katarn and all the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight stuff was my favorite part of the EU.

Couple of new clips out describing some of the gameplay, interactions, locations and customizing aspects. Some really good looking graphics for sure, and it looks like it will be fairly immersive.

I've seen that this will only be available on the Ubisoft platform and won't be available on Steam. Not sure how i feel about that.

I like the look of this, and it is the kind of game that i love to play, but i'm led to believe that it won't be available on Steam. I begrudged created and account on EA for Jedi: Fallen Order so i will neen to consider whether or not i'll get this.

The trailer looks good. I will definitely get this game at some point. I am a tad behind though as I only recently started Jedi Survivor.

Pricing is insane! An online only game that doesn’t give you access in entirety unless you pay an additional $50?

Ubisoft, at least kiss me before you f**k me. 🤣

They just showed an extended look at the gameplay of this game about a week ago. The game was looking like a pass for me since Ubisoft games mostly suck now, but the gameplay here looks really good! You play as a smuggler during the time between ANH and ESB films, its open world, you have your own ship and can fly back and forth to different planets...and includes space combat! Getting some KotOR vibes. Developers seem like huge SW fans.

The game itself looks fantastic, and the gameplay mechanics also sound impressive. But this is Ubi we're talking about, so I'll definitely be waiting at least six months after launch to buy it so that they have time to work out bugs. Also for a sale because their games aren't worth $70 IMO. And TBH most new games aren't, they went an upped the prices and double the bugs. lol
I spent a week on trying to work around a bug in Pandora...

I've got a couple nitpicks about going into OT territory that we've already seen before, but that's always been an issue with this IP retreading the old same old.

It does look like it could be a lot of fun though.

Stacked some Target App deals and snagged for $40. Having fun so far. What a shock, chud's used some pre patch glitches to complain how ugly Kay is 😂 certainly not.

Based on some of the gameplay I've seen I'm going to wait for the bug fixes, and a massive sale as this game is definitely not worth $70!
There seems to be so much wrong from the concept to execution, not that the concept is bad, just poorly translated and very limited for an open world game.

Been playing all day. Haven't run in to a single issue. Loving it so far. Not really sure what else it needs? Or what people expected/wanted?

That's the thing isn't it, different people have different expectations for a game. Knowing Ubisoft like I do "I'll" be left wanting whereas others not as much. We each have different levels of acceptable content we like to see in a game, and TBH the stuff I've seen doesn't strike me as a AAA game compared to past ones I've played. But as I mention I haven't played it yet so I'll wait pass judgement, but I can only base in one pervious Ubi and that's not a ringing endorsement.

In all honestly, the games haven't been doing that great lately and maybe it's because I was spoiled on good games that I expect the same quality now.

Star Wars games have been very good lately lol. Not everything will be a 10/10 and that's okay. And it's definitely the most fun I've had with a Ubi game since Odyssey.

Don't let nostalgia cloud old Star Wars games. The best games weren't even GOTY contenders save for one.

I stopped my speederbike at one point today to watch a meteor shower at dusk out on an alien grassland... moment like that that are pretty cool.

It's crazy considering the first Star Wars games I ever played were the crappy ESB and Jedi Arena for Atari! Things have come such a long way...

Hey guys,

I haven't ever frequented this part of the forums because it's been so long since there's been a Star Wars game that I really liked, but I thought I'd share my honest review here. I don't want to bring a lot of negativity to the thread and for those who are enjoying the game that's awesome, and you're probably either more skilled than me, have more patience or just don't get as bothered by things, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I, on the other hand, can't even really convey my disappointment for this game, and I was really looking forward to it. Not trying to bring anyone down here, but this was my honest review:

Now that I've had time to play it, probably put a good 5 or 6 hours into it, I'm freaking p*ssed that I spent $70 on this piece of trash. And this is coming from someone who was convinced that even if it was bad, it was gonna be good, because it's the first Star Wars open world.

For one, it's a dead open world, and not even very open as there are roadblocks and such all over the place that severely limit where you can actually explore. I say 'dead' because the NPCs aren't even NPCs, they're more like scenery. You can't interact with hardly any of them. You can't even bump into them, they just don't even acknowledge you and you can't walk through them. There are only a select few that are marked that you can actually talk to.

The pathfinding is absolutely terrible. You have a marker and you don't know if it's on the upper level, mid level, or lower level, so you're looking all around, trying to find a path that will lead you there. They can't just have the option of having an actual path you can follow if you get stuck, so I'm spending much of my time just wandering around aimlessly. Total waste of time. And if it were a living world where you could actually interact with people and things, there would be some kind of incentive to explore, but that is missing entirely.

So far the missions I've done for the main quest have all been completely stealth-based. Not with a steal 'option' but to where if you get seen at all (even at times when they somehow see you and you're completely hidden), you die. A little stealth is okay but this has been the majority of the gameplay so far. Sorry, just not my thing. A well-known quote from Han Solo after they arrived at the Death Star comes to mind.

Ok let's talk about the graphics. They'd be acceptable if this game came out five years ago. This is something that looks like it should be on PS4 (I'm playing on PS5). Just nothing at all impressive about it, and they don't stand up to the standards of today.

Ok, what I liked:

- walking around in the Imperial base, which had many elements I recognized from the Death Star, so that was a rare moment that really put me in the game and made all the other bs almost feel worth it. Almost.

- the environments, so far (I saw Canto Bight and the second planet, whatever it was, were pretty cool, other than the dead NPCs who may as well not be there because they really don't give the game any life so to speak

- the space flight was actually really cool, simply because the controls were set up in such a way that it made sense, was intuitive, and made the ship easy to control and get to go where you want it to or do what you want it to. I know 'simulator' fans would probably complain about the lack of realism there, but for me it was just perfect, so props at least for how they handled that.

I wish I could think of anything else good to say about it, other than that it's Star Wars. Honestly I was under the delusion that that would be enough for me, even though I didn't really get into the Fallen Order series. I thought this being open world would give it a little more freedom and add an extra element to it, but if anything it feels more constrained, or just as constrained.

It really sucks to be writing this. Not only was this a huge let-down on a game I've literally waited years for, but I feel like I just got totally ripped off for $70, as there's no way it's worth even close to that. If I'd waited years for the price to come down to $15 or $20 I might not care as much, but I don't think I'd be any happier about having bought the game.

Man, so this is a tough one, but if I had to give this game a score I'd probably give it a 4 out of 10. I play a lot of games and this is definitely below average. Unlike a lot of people, I was actually excited that Ubisoft was handling this one, because I like a lot of the Assassin's Creed and Farcry games. But now I see those people were right to be skeptical.

I guess if anything this should be a lesson not to get my hopes up for a game like this and at least take the time to listen to the early access reviews before shelling out full price for it.

Stealth isn't too bad. It's a smuggler game so it's pretty common. Most stealth is optional and the non optional stuff you can go pretty loud if you disable the alarms. Shame it's not what you expected. Seems to be the only reoccurring negative I see.

Very reminiscent of Cyberpunk and how people wanted it to just be sci-fi GTA and when it wasn't....oh boy. I think, like Cyberpunk, this will go down as a fan favorite once the people swallowed up by the marketing die down and people try it on their own with no expectations.

Maybe, who knows? I loved Cyberpunk, even though it wasn't everything I was expecting. That was when it first came out, and they improved on it significantly later on, as well, so hopefully they'll do the same with this game.

Honestly if they could iron out a few things, particularly the path finding and gameplay issues, I'd probably play through it. It's difficult to really explain that aspect as it wasn't just the stealth, but also the elements that made the stealth unnecessarily difficult - like being 'seen' without even being in view of anyone (I was literally inside a duct two times that it happened). That and it often seems very counterintuitive where you have to spend a lot of time figuring out how to do things or where to go/what to do that would normally be part of the tutorial or tips/objectives. I mean I get when some games go too overboard on the hand-holding but this game seems to go exactly the opposite direction and leave so many things as ambiguous that it just becomes annoying and cumbersome.

I get it, the lock picking is insane 😂 just cool off. Try again. I never ran into any path issues. Game certainly opens up a lot more. And it is an open world game, but not a sandbox game, which I think creates a lot of confusion

Yeah, I may just have to swallow my pride and look up some walkthroughs. Figured out the lockpicking without much trouble though some of it is faster than I can press the buttons lol. Also my oldest son said he wants to come over and play it so I'll hold onto it for now. Gamestop was only willing to give me $30 store credit anyway and I was like, 'yeah, no' lol. Normally they'll pay more for games that just came out and are in demand but maybe things have changed.

It's worth retrying with a fresh mindset. Plus getting to Tattooine is something. Mos Eisley is huge and planet is just full of notable places.

I did actually try it again last night, and it definitely was! Once I figured out where it wanted me to go for a particular map marker, I started making some progress, and as soon as I had the chance to go to Tatooine, I did. Then once there, of course I looked for the cantina. I have to say just being able to walk through the cantina made me feel differently about the game. It's reasons like this that I was so bummed out about the game, because I knew there was so much potential there. I'll keep pushing through!

Does anyone know how to get back into a syndicate's good grace once you've hit 'terrible' status?

I earned the 'excellent' rewards from every other faction but the Pykes, and now they hate me so much they won't even give me jobs. That makes it hard to do anything with them...

I've sold some data to their brokers but it barely moves the needle. It would take a ridiculous amount of time to do it that way...

You probably got it by now but yeah just do contracts. Clan logo will show you who you are helping. They are random generated so can do as many as you want until rep is up with everyone

The problem is that a faction will not give you contracts when you have 'terrible' reputation...

Doesn't matter, I beat the story and gave up. This game was a disappointment on a lot of levels. Too bad I had to waste my Labor Day weekend determining that...

Lol. Okay.

Anyways you can get contracts for other syndicates from nonpartisan brokers.

I never saw any Pyke contracts after I already got on their bad side.

I'm glad I only got this game with a month of Ubisoft+ and didn't actually buy it at full price.

Now whats with the laugh, dude? Do i need to qualify my opinion? Here goes... There was basically NO story besides some vague Oceans 11 type stuff. This is an issue on a lot of recent Ubisoft games, nothing you do ever feels important. The faction system was only half thought out, it barely changed the game in any way except for constantly pissing off the Pykes. There's not near enough fast travel points and the ones that are there crammed together. I like stealth games, but the stealth in this is half broken, which sucks when most missions fail if you're spotted. The game world is dull and empty. You can't interact with 98% of the NPCs in any way. In fact, you can walk right through most of them! There's almost nothing to do in ships and space. You can only drive your own speeder, not one other vehicle in the game! You can't keep any weapons, only your pistol. And most of all, the game is rather short.

I REALLY wanted to like a Star Wars open world game, but it feels like Ubisoft had their B or C teams on this title. Or it just wasn't ready for release yet.

Space Marine 2 is out tomorrow, I sure hope that one satisfies!

Looks like you were hoping for a sandbox game, not an open world game. Sorry to hear
