Star Wars Hotwheels

Interesting rumor, I'd buy some titanium style rebels ships from hw for sure, assuming I could find them with all the hw scalpers that exist. Still havent seen the hw cylon raider...

Cool. If it means we get some mini ships we haven't had before, awesome. I am a little leery though, seeing what they have done, or failed to do, so far, with Star Trek. So much potential, but the follow through has kinda fizzled.

Cheers for the news, Boris! Very interesting, sounds like it's more than just a rumour. :)

Yeah guys, HW's stuff is a nightmare to acquire due to the excessive scalping... and their toolings/paint can be kinda meh... but I'd love to see the return of a Titanium-style line, especially at a $5 (or less) pricepoint. I'd love to see some "1/50 scale" capital ships, too.
Wonder if this line will tie into Rebels? It'd be awesome to get all the new ships and vehicles... without having to paint them. ;)

How nice would it be to get some Star Wars ships the same size as the Star Trek series? I'm talking the bigger ones, like the Excelsior/Kelvin/BoP/Vengeance series. A Jedi Starfighter or Republic assault Ship that size would be amazing!

We share the same dream DW. Although I wouldn't turn my nose up at the smaller scale, just as long as we get em in plentiful range and often

Great...... now I've gotta start worrying about beating the HotWheels "collectors" i.e. scalpers to the shelves too.

Is this the same ship line that Disney showed a few weeks back? Hmmmm.... :\

Hehe, I've never read a SW Insider in my life. Hope someone can fill us in, too.

Very interesting list, all the same. I'd love to see Titanium-sized ships again and I'd certainly pick up "1/50" capital ships. :D
With Ep. VII in 2015 and the stand-alone SW film in 2016, this/these line(s) could be supercool.

Nothing has been shown yet, so there are no pictures. We have been promised our first look in June.

1/64th means we can expect something in the range of the recent Star Trek USS Enterprise and USS Vengeance diecast and plastic minis - similar in size to Titaniums, though I expect some will be a little smaller as HW bubbles are smaller than those old Titanium packages. The mention of wheels in that article throws things up in the air a bit, because that suggests heavily compromised designs if we're talking starships and starfighters. I am hoping that is a false assumption someone has made.

If that list is accurate, then I am happy to see some prequel era content in this time when the prequels movies seem to be dirty words as far as Disney is concerned. There are some cool prequel era designs that haven't received as much love in licensing as the well-tread classic era A listers.

Seems like different scales and price points to me DD, plus the Disney stuff is supposed to be exclusive to their stores. I think they're entirely distinct and wouldn't expect any articulation in these HW ships.

That makes sense to me Rev but I'm kinda surprised that Disney would license and/or sell 2 (technically 4) very similar small starship lines at roughly the same time. Guess we'll see! I'd love to be able to cherry-pick from all of those ships! The only major drawback is if they go through all the same old OT ships that Hasbro's done a trillion times in every colour of the rainbow. It'll take a while to get anything fresh and new... unless they're a little bit adventurous.

Still holding out for a 1/64 Naboo Yacht and an Acclamator, just for starters, if they include the PT. How about a 1/50 Super Star Destroyer to go along with the ISD? Tasty! ;)

I agree DD and Rev, we're going to be blitzed by OT vehicles for the next 18 months, until we start seeing Ep 7 designs. I just hope one day PT ships get revisited. I'd like some of the CW ships we've not seen to be produced too, but I can dream.

Boo. From this tease by Jayson over at Yakface it looks like the 1/64th scale portion of this line at least is just going to be some goofy SW character-themed fantasy hot rods. Oh well, it's nothing I need to collect so that's probably good. ;)

Hopefully the starships will still be cool, but I am now wondering if they won't be closer to the 1/50th scale now, which I think is what DD and others had predicted.

At the dollar scale and size I would buy TONS of Star wars vehicles. Waves after waves could be made with so many designs. But i want mostly prequel stuff. I do want a bigger metal Venator though. That would be awesome.

I'm fine with the OT getting some love. Although I liked the CW, I need a break from it and the PT for a good while.

I'll second that boo, dude. More "goofy SW character-themed fantasy hot rods" would suck, that's what I get out of that pic, too. A friend sent me a diecast Disney 1/64 AT-AT Juggernaut (on 8 wheels) vehicle and it was pretty cool but I wasn't too fussed about the rest of Disney's earlier diecast offerings on that hotrod theme. The Yodamobile just wasn't my style.

Here's a spread I found online that will be featured in the next SW Insider magazine. Looks like we will be getting die-cast starships in 2015!! Read on....

Cool, thanks for that page, Boss. :) Here's how I read it:

- "simple but fun" starship display (stand?) that can sit on your shelf or attach to your finger (which one? :)) to "fly" the ship

- playsets will "bring starships to life" utilizing expertise gleaned from making HW track sets (uh oh.)

- Totally separate 1/64 cars and starships lines (nice)

- Not clear if starships will have wheels (ack!) and what scale they'll be... but we'll see them all at SDCC

I think the Vader car's well done but I'll pass on the cars line unless they pop a few canon or EU vehicles into it, which seems quite doubtful.
What do youze guys make of the news?

Hey, look at that. Excellent to get some news on this line. Thanks Bosski!

I agree DD, that Vader hot rod is actually quote well done, but it is also quite easy to ignore, just as the Disney Racers were before it. I'm only interested in on screen vehicles, not inventions. I'm happy to be able to leave this line to the HW car collectors to fight over.

But, the mini starship line is sounding interesting. The finger-loop display stands make them sound small. I had begun to think we'd be looking at 5" ship models similar to the 1/50th scale Trek range, but try wearing one of those on your finger. It makes me wonder if these won't indeed be somewhere between MMs and Titaniums in size, which catches my attention immediately. I pray they use the line as a way to deliver some ships we haven't seen a million times before and that they aren't too compromised by anything like wheels. I look forward to checking 'em out in person next month at SDCC. While I am sure there will be no shortage of phtotgraphy to gawk at online once the show starts, I'll be sure to take some snaps of my own to sghare when I get back.

Does anyone else immediately think 'Ring Raiders'?

I'm concerned about the direction they're taking but am happy enough to sit back and see what happens. If they go full-retard ala Tropic Thunder then I'll just keep my money in my wallet easy enough.

JTA posted a a pic showing 2 more "cars" from HW's SW line. Pretty ghastly, IMHO. One looks like Elvis Presley's coffin and other resembles a wheeled garbage bin. Yeeeeesh.

Oh FFS! I really wish HW would stop with the 'every property we licence has to have cars' crap. Things like the Homer, Back to the Furutre Delorean, Mystery Machine etc are all awesome and make sense. But if you're going to licence a series full of Starships, just make the damn Starships!

I share your pain DW, just hoping they have a temporary lapse and actually produce a ship or two :D

I was speaking with a buddy of mine who has seen the prototypes of the HW mini starfighters line. He couldn't give details due to his NDA but said that, knowing my MM-scaled ship collecting predilection, he thought it would be a line that would make me squeal with glee. I take that to mean the mini ships look really nice, so I am guessing no unsightly wheels or anything like that. Here's hoping, anyhow. It shouldn't be long now till we get our first look. :D

For some reason, the Darth Vader car reminds more of Donald Duck than the famous Sith... 40$ seem really high, although the box is quite neat.
