I submitted the reply below in someone's Wanted post in the Classified section, but it may be better if it's posted here. Good post on current market value for eFX McVader and also how to check sold prices on eBay.

"Looks like the McVader helmet sold. It was listed with a BIN price of $3,994.95 with $224 shipping. The neck piece had a crack in it. How can one tell how much it sold for? I can't tell if someone bought it at the BIN price or if a best offer was accepted. Website says Sold for $3,994.95, but app says Best Offer Accepted with the $3,994.95 price crossed out. The eBay app used to display the best offer price accepted, but now it doesn't. Would be nice to see what the market value on this is as they don't show up often."

Description from auction for future reference:

Up for sale is Ralph McQuarrie Darth Vader helmet concept, 178 out of 250. I have an minor issue with the back neck piece ( please see pictures). A lot of collectors had the same helmet but with many more problems or damaged. The only problem it's the broken piece of the neck. The helmet have been displayed for around 6 months only in an acrylic case.. other pieces are in good condition.

I received it like that from EFX, but at that time the helmet was sold out so I kept it like that.

When the helmet is on display you don’t see the issue

The neck is a little bit broken like you can see on the picture but it's too small to fit correctly like you can see on another picture .. but inside of the neck you have a Velcro to attach it with the mask

Is there truly no way to find out what the sold price is when a seller accepts a best offer? It would be really nice to know what the McVader sold for.

McQ Vader regularly sells for 3K and up. One of the few pieces that still commands a high aftermarket price.

Rey...... any idea what the last mcvader sold for. I can't remember that site that gives you the actual price auctions ended at.

Hey James! I haven't been checking lately so I wasn't aware a couple more were posted for sale recently.

Seller in GA. Listed for $7000 plus $100 shipping. Best offer accepted on 8/10/18 for $5000. Wow!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/EFX-Ralph-...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Seller in CA. Listed for $12,327.00. Sold on 9/26/18 but was later relisted and still active. I think this seller is reaching a bit. :)

These definitely don't get listed often so it's nice to archive sold prices in this thread. Thanks for the heads-up!

The helmet sold back in July for $3400 had a broken neck piece. The one that sold in August was in perfect (so the seller says) condition and sold for $5000. My guess is an undamaged one should easily command $4000, which is crazy! But this was a VERY limited release with only 250 made.

Wow, I can't believe the price for this piece. I wasn't lucky enough to get one when they first came out, but I did pick one up from a fellow scummer a short while later, which now looks like a steal! I paid $200 over retail.

To score a decently priced one, I think custom-made is the way to go. The Force Forum is offering a very nice one painted by Nick Anzalone for USD550 bucks or something like that.

that ones mine 😉

i did stretch it a bit because it’s still a favorite piece of mine, but I want to downsize my vast collection.

plus when you calculate, the mr signed helmets of Christiansen and jej have been consistently listed between the 3 and 5k Park and that’s limited to what is it, 500?

the efx McQuarrie is easily twice that value wise, then take into account he recently passed away, plus the number of helmets out there that are usedor broken,
so I figure, the last large amount I’ve seen it listed at was 9k a few years back. I sold my life sized Vader for 5 k and there were at least 500 of those.

this piece’s popularity was really underestimated and sold out in minutes. I figured 10k was good and a few thousand more for eBay fees since they and PayPal get a huge chunk.

surprisingly no one called me nuts, but I’ve been getting questions and offers, and inquiries for trades.

theres only 250 of these worldwide and millions of Star Wars fans and growing. There’s likely someone who needs to add this to their collection who can easily afford it somewhere in the world...I’ve sold individual hot wheels for over 200 ...it’s not an unrealistic stretch, but it’s a stretch I, willing to wait out since it’s a great collectible to have in the collection! :D

Sounds like you have a plan. Since you're not in a rush or hurting for cash, it works. Good luck!

Thanks!
i love it, but these things will have to live on long after I’ve gone, and til then or til someone comes to buy him, I’ll be the steward ;)

who knows, maybe another company will produce this helmet down the road, and I’ll just wind up buying another complementary piece!

Sooner than later it will sell.

I have one and I will never sell it. The majority are probably in the hands of collectors that won't either. That is why it will continue to command higher prices.

EFX needs to do the McQuarrie Stormtrooper Helmet... NOW!!!

Your listing is the best marketing piece I've ever seen on eBay! If you can't get it, no one can. What's the best offer you've received so far?

I’m so sorry o just saw this question...!

ive gotten a few lowball offers ...less than retail haha.

And a couple of offers for trade mostly on things I don’t collect though.

once in a while I drop the price on flash sales. Like at Christmas time, I dropped it to 9k for a coupl days only ;)

Unfortunately I need to part ways with my collection and I’ll be putting up the McVader for sale. I see one list on eBay for $17k but that just seems ridiculous. It’s artist proof with a nice custom acrylic case.

Hello DarthStarkiller, may I ask how much your McVader was sold?

I have been perusing sales-completed Ebay listing and I see that the last McVader helmets were sold for around $17k, $13k, and $7k.

I figured due to the low edition number of these helmets, they command insane premium over other relatively rare helmets produced by EFX and MR.

So once again, can we share with us on how much the helmet was sold for? :)

Haven’t had a chance to officially list it yet. Been a busy summer so I haven’t had much time to accurately go through my entire collection.

Stay tuned

Can I ask what your helmet sold for demorathis???? Was a best offer accepted. Curiosity seems to get the best of me.... lol

James
The helmet originally sold for $16,975, including international shipping and insurance and the whole shebang
but that sale was cancelled because the customs would’ve been super expensive.

ULTIMATELY, I sold for $11,500 to a local buyer, before California taxes which would’ve been about $12,500 total...no shipping or insurance or anything required since I just dropped off the helmetlocally.

that was mine probably....Not so ridiculous because it officially sold at $16,975 ...unfortunately that first buyer got cold feet because the value was so high, the customs would’ve dragged that price up higher and I couldn’t declare it as a gift or anything because I wasn’t about to declare a $17k item as having little to no value just to save on customs Lol.

either way I accepted offers, and the most reasonable one I sold to with a bit of negotiation.

Congrats demorathis..... i appreciate you responding. I was looking to move mine at the time (wasn't interested in selling but trading for other pieces to add to my collection) and wanted to gauge its value... thank you

Wow! You sold yours for $11.5K?! I'm definitely holding on to my AP McVader now! Congrats on the sale bud!

I didn't know you were in California as well. Whereabouts? I'm in the SF Bay Area. If I could find a local buyer for anywhere close to your sold price, I wouldn't hesitate to sell mine. It's still sitting in the box and as I mentioned before in other threads, I'm not a helmet guy. I bought it years back because it's a McVader (!) and it was a local seller.

Congrats on the sale!

There's one getting bids on eBay now (had bids up to $6,300 but was mysteriously cancelled and relisted)...thinking it may be time to let mine go so I'm waiting to see what this goes for.
