So what do you think of the first three?

Now that they're out, I was wondering what you all think of the first three rehashed Action Fleet vehicles, assuming anybody bought them (and with the way they disappeared around here, I'm sure SOMEONE bought them).

I had planned not to get any of them, since they were all vehicles I already had, but once I saw them in person, I was tempted. I had longed for new Action Fleet stuff to buy, and these three had just enough changes for me to consider them "new". I'd still love some little people to put in them, but that's another story.

So what do I think? Let's look at them, shall we?

Vader's TIE: Seems to be a bluer shade of grey than the old one, and the paint is much brighter all around. The damaged wing is different from the one on the TIE from the Death Star playset, and appears to be accurate to the part in A New Hope where Vader's ship gets hit by one of his escorts.

Falcon: Same wonderful ship minus the missile thingy. Of course, I haven't opened it yet, so I don't know if they took away the little hidey place inside, but here's hoping they didn't. The paint is much more striking this time around, and the charring gives the ship a nicely used look. I prefer the original, but this is a good companion to it.

X-Wing: R2's not removable, but aside from that, a vast improvement. The paint is very realistic, and I love the yellow on the front. The guns on the wings of mine appear to be somewhat bent (the top ones look like they point up a bit, while the bottom ones seem to point a bit down), but maybe that's my eyes playing tricks on me.

So I'm happy with these three, rehashed as they may be, and am looking forward to the next few rehashes for various reasons. The Episode II stuff... we'll see how that turns out. I'm concerned that even if Hasbro gives us some people to put in the rehashes, the AOTC stuff won't be made to hold people in the first place. Dooku's Sailer springs to mind.

To answer your question Resurrection Bob, the Falcon does have the smugglers compartment and all the other little hatches that the first version had. The only difference appears to be the removal of missile firing mechanism.

The paint job on the AT-AT looks quite average up close and in person
I was rather disappointed although not entirely surprised. The Naboo Fighter looks very cool. the Snowspeeder is also pretty good although it just looks wrong without a pilot and copilot in it.

Dooku's Solar Sailer looks quite nice but I must say the AT-TE is damn hot! A beautifully made AF vehicle with all the different gun turrets on it. If only Hasbro had included figures with these vehicles it would have been the perfect line. Hopefully they realise the error of their ways and we start seeing those figures real soon!

Oh and by the way my favorite Action Fleet item has to be the Rancor. Whoever conceived the chewing action and the 'figure retrieval mechanism' aka - butt flap, deserves a big promotion
That's one fun toy!

I will probably buy a Falcon to display with my ROTJ toys, but I haven't picked anything up aside from the Endor adventure pack (for some reason I can't pass up an AT-ST- I'm like that character that Mel Gibson played in "Conspiracy Theory" who bought a copy of a book evert time he saw one).

Is the paint really that different on the X-wing- I might pick one up if it is that noticeable, but I haven't been able to compare them side by side.

The Vader TIE (I don't call it TIE Advanced) is much liek the one in the Death Star playset but the new one has a mor esolid silver damage where the Old one had black and 'holier' look to it. The old one looks a lot better.

I'm hoping someone realizes we want figures and put out packs of just figures. They have the molds, they have the ships, Galoob did it in the micromachine line with the itty bitty figs, it seems a no brainer...so yeah it probably won't happen....I'd buy them all, and probably Imperials and Bounty hunters in multiples....

the new paint proces being utilized by hasbro on the re-hashed action fleet is supberb!
far superior in many ways to the original galoobies. i have also noticed that the paint process is not standard from one ship to the next. the scorching effect of the falcon,(actually looks like the dayum thing was slow roasted in a back yard smoker
), i've noticed to be different from ship to ship. some are more charred than others, while some of them have the scorched wash applied to the front plastic panel (where the missle firing mechanism used to be
), while others do not.

the x-wing got the best of the new paint treatment if you ask me. the color of the red markings is of the appearnace as what was utilized on the 1st version of the series alpha red three x-wing (the one with the white stripes on the engines). on all other x-wings the red is actually orangy, and lloks quite dull. the yellow stripe down the top of the fuselage is a major plus. i had hoped that we would get one that way ever since galoob showed the x-wing on thier old page with the yellow stripe. i always felt that the x-wings were lacking in that they didn't have the stripe. (the dagobah swamped up one had the stripe as well, but it's more satisfying on this new release). i only wish they had made the markings for this new one, red leader's red one, only cause that's the only one we're missing from the movie. the black paint used for the torpedo firing wells is much darker than on the original release. this makes them look like torpedo wells, as opposed to just some additional markings.

the paint used for the vaders tie is also superior to the original, i just don't understand why they had to make another battle damaged version
, oh well.

all in all, i rate these "new" action fleets highly (hasbro gets additional kudos for re-releasing the falcon, as it was one of the tougher action fleets to get the 1st time around. any move by hasbro in getting the hard to acquire af's into the hands of children, i greatly applaud!
)

if you havn't picked em up yet, cause you already have these guys in your collection, i highly recommend that you re-think that, and track these guys down. they are well worth adding to the collection.

as fer the new "battlepacks", i have to say i wasn't impressed with em. i do like the new paint job that lukes landspeeder has been given, but as far as i'm concerned, the differences between these "new" ones and the original ones are too insignificant to make me want to pick em up.

unfortunately, i may just wait until the battle packs have been reduced to clearance prices before acquiring them

While originally I'd heard Hasbro wanted to do all new, more accurate, molds I'm not totally unhappy with these first three. The Falcon is by far the best of the bunch. The deco on the X-wing is nice, but I wish they could have done more. The blue spiral on the cannons would have been impressive. Vader's TIE is too much like the original, and no where near accurate enough in my opinion.

The Battle Pack are more of the same, and why someone didn't take this chance to do the Mos Eisly deco on the Lar's speeder is unfortunate. Of all the sets, that could have really been something to get excited about. A little more deco on the AT-ST would have been a plus as well.

Still, it's good to see the line return. I for one can't wait for the new toys to start shipping.

I didn't see them yet in Belgium, probably never won't
, but I think they're cool! People were complaining 'bout the lack of figs, but I don't think they were such an asset in the original line (ugly sculpt + painting)
