At CIII everyone got a t-shirt to wear during their shifts and to take as a souvenir. This year there will be no t-shirts, sorry! We will have these fantastically bright green and orange vests with the Official Pix logo and "VOLUNTEER" across the back. When you check in for your shift you will be issued a vest to wear over your clothes and you will turn the vest back in after your shift is complete.

So you can wear whatever you'd like under the vest. Costumes will only be allowed for those working crowd control. All other duties would be hindered by wearing a costume so jeans & a t-shirt would be great.

As incentive to get people to work on Monday, the last shift will be able to take their OPX Volunteer vests home. Yay!

Re: The OPX Uniform

That's what I thought too about the pumpkin. Still, I think they just want us to stand out and not get confused with the general public so what better colors than bright orange and green? I just hope the second day I volunteer I don't get someone's sweaty vest from the day before
Oh it's gonna be fun volunteering!

Yes, I know, the vests aren't uber hip and cool, but they will provide exactly what we need: customers will be able to find volunteers to help them. Actually, they're kind of Han Soloish with pockets on the front, just think of them that way! :)

Re: The OPX Uniform

If we signed up to volunteer for Floor Manager as well as to be with the guest signers how will we know which we have been approved for? I am looking forward to wearing my costume but as you mentioned we would only need it if on crowd control. Are we allowed to wear it when we are situated with the guest signers as well? Thanks

Re: The OPX Uniform

Anne, are the vests "one size fits all" or in a variety of sizes? (Trying to figure out how to color coordinate my outfits with the green and orange!!)

Hold that thought, they may be different color, but they are NOT one size fits all, they will be a variety of sizes.

Re: The OPX Uniform

Seriously, If you are saying they somewhat resemble Hans vest...why not consider going with a all black vest to make that association and keep it classy looking...and have a nice bright green or yellow VOLUNTEER on the back to make us stand out??
Just tossing in an opinion.

Re: The OPX Uniform

Black would be the best color to wear....but the WORST color for volunteer vests. We'd blend in to the crowd no matter what you put on the back. The only people who get to wear the cool black and get away with it are security cause you want them to blend into the background.
I'd go with a green myself, since there won't be a lot of people wearing that color. Then put a good complimentary red for lettering and the Official Pix logo on the back. But that's just my likes.
Coloring for a vest (other than orange) isn't easy when you have to take in the crowd, since you WANT to stand out, and take into consideration what works and doesn't. Like having to use a light green and a Dark red for lettering so that color-blind people can find us.

Could you define 'hindered'? I mean, I can understand how a Jedi Costume or Stormtrooper Armor would be hindered with guest escort (sleeves and bulky clothing, and armor isn't very comfortable to sit in), and working with the pix in the back, but what about smuggler costumes that are basically a Star Wars version of "jeans and t-shirt?" I'm planning on going as Rianna Saren for one of the days of the convention, and That's a basically tank top and jeans combo. I want to know if I should plan it for a crowd control/floater day. While I plan to wear a costume all five days of the Con, the others are easily enough to 'take off' for my shift and (hopefully) put into my locker before my shift starts. Rianna however, isn't.

Re: The OPX Uniform

Those that work crowd control may wear a costume. So on the day you wear Rianna make sure you're working crowd control. For everyone else I prefer we all look the part of a "professional". Even though we're all volunteer! HA! But, let me tell you, OPX volunteers are the best at the convention and that's why the high standard.

Re: The OPX Uniform

Well said Anne, I think you make a great point about this. I myself (and probily most of us out there reading this right now) has volunteered at either C3 or SDCC, and I basically have only read GREAT things about our efforts and how smooth they have worked out (except your typical handful of constant whiners)and I pledge right here right now to make C4 the very best event to date and Im so glad that I have Anne and Ben to lead us to this upcoming celebration!

Re: The OPX Uniform and/or About Costumes

Anne, I just have been reading through the new forum here and gathering as much info as possible to pass along if need. I do have one very important question that I have not seen raised yet.

How many pieces of "flair" will we have to display on our vests while working our shift?

;-)

See you soon my friend.

Vests are still up in the air. I'll let you all know when it's final. Certainly your suitcases can wait! :)

So, basically if we'll be in costume for the convention...we should specify that when we submit our prefered times to you?

Re: The OPX Uniform and/or About Costumes

Hi Anne,

Thanks for taking on this huge task. This might have been asked, but are shorts/capri pants permitted, or would you prefer something more professional looking? Does it depend on what job we are doing?

Thanks,
Jen

I think these would be fine. You know, use your judgement. Customers should be focusing on the signing guests, not your pink & yellow polka-dotted hot pants, if you know what I mean.
