Decided to re-watch Prometheus today. :) The paint scheme is indeed like that. With the shadows and lighting in the movie it's hard to notice at first. Although I think the grey needs to be a bit darker IMO.

The Alien Prometheus and Covenant ships are very nice models of very boring looking ships, IMO. They have a lot of detail and paint. Conceptually, they fit the premise of near future/real world workhorse type vessels, but they are just lack the flair of the Nostromo (giant ox-like tug) or the Sulaco (flying rifle). And no, they don't match the price being charged. They should be about $60 tops. That said, I'm going to buy them anyway because I have a complete lack of self control. 🤪

Lol, you have not reached the support group for a speedy recovery.
All of our lines are busy... :)

I'd buy all of the EM BSG and Alien ships in a heartbeat, if they were half the size and price.
That said, I ordered a Landram anyway because I have a complete lack of self-control. ;)

The Landram is nice, but I don't use the stand. It looks silly floating, and I'm worried it will fall and break the gun.

I've been slowly organizing for a collection purge since December. I'm my head I picture a highly curated museum, but in reality, my collection is more of a hoard. At this point, my EM/Titanium/Hot Wheels ships will take a whole wall in my office. I've got all but the lastest acquisitions boxed away until I figure out the best way to display them.

How do you all display your ships?

I'm in the same box as you, DR: most of my stuff's not on display at the mo', while we do (unending) renos.
Usually, it's all on shelves, en masse, like your hoard. :) Love to see a pic of your collection, btw.

A few oddities: found a $5 ringer for a Space 1999 moon buggy (about 1/50 scale) at the flea market y'day, never knew this existed! A few decals and some surgery (winch removal!) and I think it'll look pretty good. It's kinda cool that it's based on the old Hasbro tool that was used for the Space 1999 and GI Joe buggies.

Here's another odd one, an APC in a superdeformed Alien figures line. Loot Crate (boo! hiss!) also released some of 'em.

Ah the APC is one of the vinyl Titans things. I’ve got their cylon raider and U.S.S. Discovery. And a random Deanna Troi figure. Cute in a stylised deformed way

Right now, I'm boxing stuff up. I work from home, and have been working off my kitchen counter for years. I bought a portable building last December that I'm slowly finishing out. Plan is to make it my office/toy room. Now that the weather seems to be getting cooler and my busy season has finished up, I'm hoping to try to get it usable by the end of the year. I'm trying to lay out how I want things and what I want to display. Desk on back wall, long wall lined with shelving, some Detolfs on short wall, and a small nook by the door for hobby stuff/photography. I've focused my collecting down to spaceships, robots and certain Kenner style retro figures from Super 7, etc. So i'm working on purging stuff that doesn't fit anymore, and then I want to curate what is left.

Just saw the trailer for Dune. EM/HC needs to get this license. Ornithopter, Spice Crawler, Guild Ship. I have some of the old figures from the 80s, never got the little vehicles though.

I was hoping the newer Mad Max Fury Road would have spurred enough interest in the franchise for a die-cast company to go back into the first 3 movies and make a plethora of vehicles from ALL of them, especially the wilder ones from Thunderdome. Greenlight DID make a few scales of Max's Interceptor from the first movie (and there was a 2-pack of Max's Interceptor and the Night Ryder antagonist vehicle in 1/32 scale from another company I believe). I also have a non-MadMax-licensed Johnny Lightning Main Force Patrol colored car which isn't based on a Ford Falcon, but instead a Chevy Malibu. Colors are very close if not exact, but no labeling stating it's actually MFP.

But, I was hoping for a much deeper dive into the on-screen vehicles... Maybe 8-10 from each older movie or so... The new movie prob has at least 20 good candidates for die-cast vehicles.

I have a couple of the Greenlight "Last of the V8 Interceptors". I'm debating getting this Scalextric version on Amazon that is weathered with the gas tanks in the back. I was hoping for a whole line of Fury Road vehicles, but I've always heard George Miller doesn't like to license out the movies.

Same with Blade Runner. I hoped they could get around the license issues with Blade Runner 2049 briefly showing the original spinner. But all we got was the new, boring version from Neca. I've got the Hallmark ornament and the one from the briefcase DVD edition. They are OK.

I think part of the issue is that the licensors split the licenses by new vs legacy media, so even if you buy a license for the new film of a property like Mad Max, it doesn't grant you access to the earlier movies, which are licensed separately, and vice versa. So, it becomes a riskier and more expensive proposition to buy multiple licenses at once, at least in my own experience with licensed collectibles. The other issue is number of units per run needed to recoup tooling costs. For high end collectibles that go for many hundreds of dollars you might be able to get your investment back on just a few hundred units, but if you're talking smaller stuff like die cast vehicles or plastic ships, you need to be selling multiple thousands just to break even, which is tougher and tougher these days.

I read that Warner Bros refused Eaglemoss’s bid for a magazine series based on Babylon 5 ships.

A real shame as I would’ve loved that.

Someone from Eaglemoss said they wouldn't be able to get the license for the various Stargate series because MGM wanted too much for it. Would have been great to have some proper Stargate ship replicas.

I'm very much looking forward to Dune, Foundation, the Mando, and the Trek shows... and Raised By Wolves is quite good, too. It's a golden period for sci-fi, innit. :)

Someone posted this pic on the EM FB fanpage the other day, love it, dunno where to get one.

Our Boris told me about this one (cheers!) , but I haven't seen it on pegs here yet, just finding the car 5-packs with the crap planes.
Anybody get one?

I think the Darkstar has been in all 3 assortments of the Top Gun series so far, so you shouldn't have a problem finding it once it hits your area. They seem to be pretty popular. It's also included in a 4-pack as well. The 4-pack is pretty good as it seems like it's the only way to get the Iceman F-14 as far as I can tell.

Beside the aforementioned Stargate (quite unexpected after Ben's prior comments re: insane licensing costs, due end of 2021, early 2022) , EM also announced more Space 1999 Eagles, which should debut Spring/Summer 2021. :)

Orville ships return next Fall, and they're doing an OG Cylon Centurion, with a gold-plated con version for next year.

The Expanse is a great show but I'm not too sure there are many ships designs I like enough to get. The Rocinante is one I do want, though, that looks great.

About the Stargate ships, Ben said that they'd got the original VFX stuff, but some of it is quite dated by today's standards - so they've been updated. I wonder what specifically that means, have Eaglemoss done that before?

I haven't seen the show and can't say the designs thrill me either but yeah, I'd be in for a couple of small ones.

A lot of studio assets need quite a bit of work, apparently. An example is the TOS-R ships: they were upscaled, retexturized, and regreebled because they were teeny, lo-rez, janky files as used on the show, usually seen as dots on a viewscreen. EM's gotten quite good at it, and imagine they'll do a decent job of the conversions. It's pretty much standard operating procedure by this point, especially for early CGI files.

I'd be surprised if they don't use Ed Giddings' models, or some version of them.

Hi Peeps!

Just picked up the Skybusters Top Gun FA-18 Super Hornet ‘Hero’ diecast this afternoon!

F0181A72-70E7-4ACC-9C06-EB7CCDE88967.jpeg

Aside from a Darkstar (which I may pickup tomorrow) there were no other Top Gun jets on the shelf (Am hoping to pickup Maverick’s F-14 Tomcat if I see it next!).

:)

Considering he's done stuff for Eaglemoss already It wouldn't surprise me if he updated them, while the ones there for Stargate are nice they do seem to be lacking some bits of detail, for example some of the stuff seen here on the F-302 isn't in the one on his site: https://stargate.fandom.com/wiki/File:302Landed.jpg

Hi Peeps!

Who was I kidding?! I picked up the SkyBusters Top Gun Darkstar this afternoon - and have just opened it up tonight.

8DC68766-6ECA-4857-B1BC-D8B7F9A2896A.jpeg

Overall, quite a flat diecast - which obviously lends to its stealthy design, and comes with a little flightstand - not unlike the Delta insignia from Star Trek. I wouldn’t say it’s a spectacular diecast, viewed in comparison with other SkyBusters, from the back catalog - but it’s suitably futuristic enough to be passable as some kind of alien vessel (if you wanted to cross-pollinate it with other franchises).

I’m interested to see how the diecast compares with the actual onscreen version of the Darkstar and just what kind of next gen stealth fighter, X-Plane this is (A testbed fighter with scramjet engines perhaps?).

All quiet on the sci-fi vehicle front lately but I guess there have been a few bits and bobs:

Saw a Tomica AT-AT proto on eBay.

Hallmark's done a "value" ornie of the BTTF Delorean that I saw in Walmart y'day. Not bad for ~$8 USD if you dig a kinda cartoonish look; it's solid resin with fixed wheels and ~1:43 scale, I'd reckon.

And Tomy/Takara/Tomica's got a JAXA Toyota Lunar Cruiser due out next month in JP. Wanna get me mitts on one, for sure! :)

the R&M ship looks awesome! Alas I cannot find a single retailer around here who even stocks the Entertainment line, with one exception that is quite out of my way.

I did find the Wonder Woman jet yesterday though! It's very...plain. Can't say it's worth the price, but nice to have nonetheless.

They're a real pain to find here, too: between the low quantities and scalps, it ain't pretty. I had to resort to eBay for both of those HWs in the pic... and finally got 'em cheap, after a long stalk.
I really want that WW jet too!

More MOTU coming in the Entertainment line :)

Greenlight is putting out weathered versions of it's Last of the V8 Interceptors. Amazon has a 1/18th scale, Hobby Search has a listing for a 1/24th. Not sure if smaller scaled versions are also coming.

Happy New Year Peeps!

Finally found the Matchbox Top Gun Maverick F-14 Tomcat recently, on the pegs at The Warehouse Petone - Wellington, New Zealand!

It’s a good version IMO - and completes my want list for the Top Gun matchbox series - unless they put out another wave with more new aircraft from the new movie (still MIA).

Hoping you are all safe, well and looking forward to hopefully a much better year than previous!

Any fans here of the early 00s TV series Farscape or Andromeda? I'd love to see some of the ships from those shows in die cast form; particularly the Andromeda Ascendant:

I don't think either property had much merch released; just short lived action figure lines. No spaceships.

Somebody did a real high end version of Moya from Farscape, but Moya and her son, Talon, are the only ships that I really remember standing out from that series.

I liked the first season of Andromeda, but it fell apart quickly after that. I did like the ship design. There is a seller (3Dimageshop) on Etsy who makes 3D printed version of the Andromeda and other spacecraft. I've thought about buying one of his B5 or Blackhole models.

I love Farscape, I have custom miniatures - some I bought, others I made - but I'd really like to see a diecast release of Moya! There was a company that had the Henson license to make ornaments, and they discussed Farscape, but the pandemic apparently brought the company under! Real shame, because they had a Dark Crystal castle ornament I would have loved to own.
