"With Return of the Jedi joining the National Film Registry, the debate over which version of the Star Wars movie deserves preservation reopens."

Undoubtedly, the theatrical version will be chosen:

"However, while Star Wars and The Empire Strikes have both been officially selected for preservation by the National Film Registry, the original theatrical versions of the films are the ones intended to be preserved rather than the Special Edition versions released by filmmaker George Lucas in 1997."

This was the right call.

Well, the debate is never over.

Even though Disney could provide a print for all 3 films, I doubt it will happen while Lucas is still alive.

Even when that day happens, I will wonder if Disney would do it.

Thank you.
