The thigh cuts are indeed pointless and harm aesthetics. Don't really see the point. If you have ball-jointed hips and fully-articulated knees, what possible advantage to cut hips provide? It's baffling.
And, I continue to feel, as I always have, that waist joints are far, far superior to torso joints for a variety of reasons. Aesthetics first, customizing potential second, but also freedom of movement. The waist joint provides much more poseability.
All that said, this is a very spiffy figure, though it's debatable if this version or the basic figure has the better head sculpt. Hard to say.
However, I'm delighted that this was one of the first Black Series figures. New is always preferable to old.
The thigh cuts are unfortunately necessitated because of the ball-joint hips. With the hips on their own the figures can't sit properly and the legs have a very wide stance. The thigh cuts fix that problem. I would compare trying to get Poe sitting in a chair versus Jyn sitting a chair, the Jyn figure will be sitting more naturally. I think they're both unnecessary because they should have just stuck with swivel hips.
