Welcome back Rebel Scum! We noticed last week that Hasbro's Selfie Series disappeared from the Hasbro Pulse app and that all mentions of it had been scrubbed from the Hasbro Pulse site. We reached out to Hasbro and have finally received a response.

According to Hasbro:
Thank you for contacting us about Hasbro’s Selfie Series. We have discontinued the Selfie Series platform and it has been removed from the Hasbro Pulse app. We also want to inform you that we are no longer accepting new orders for Hasbro Selfie Series figures. If you have already placed an order and need further assistance, please contact Hasbro Pulse.

We appreciate the support and enthusiasm shown by all the fans who participated in this innovative personalization platform.

This is certainly surprising given that they just unveiled new customization features at SDCC this past summer, as seen in our coverage here:

You can check out Bobby's reviews of both of his Selfie Series figures here:

Version 2.0

Hasbro didn't offer any real explanation as to why the discontinuation, so we can only speculate at this point. It's just hard to imagine all the work and technology that went into creating this whole platform, only to be unceremoniously shuttered. While they are no longer accepting new orders, I assume they will be fulfilling existing orders.

What do you think Rebel Scum?
Why do you believe the line was cancelled?

I am certain Chris Cox cancelled it. I am also certain it didn't make money and thus was cancelled as that doesn't fit Blueprint 2.0.
But, as you say, it is strange, after all those efforts, first to bring it to life, then update it after what I can only assume is customer feedback, to be more asesthetically correct.

As much as I wanted to order, I never did. All my scans turned out terrible. The figure would have looked like Dr. Evazan in Stormtrooper disguise or as a Rebel pilot.

No mystery at all. The quality just wasn't there. The heads SUCKED. Period.

The fact that the Hasbro staffers were showing off their supposed personalized figures and not a single one looked anything like them at all was our first clue that they simply couldn't deliver what they were promising.

It's a fantastic idea but clearly the technology either isn't there yet or Hasbro wasn't willing to invest enough to make the product good enough.

I've yet to see a single example that resembles who they are supposed to be. They all look the same, just a generic nondescript blob of a head. Even the samples in OP's post look awful, if we can be objectively honest.

Hasbro should try again in 5 years, but only if they're willing to make real, true custom printed heads, not a one-size-fits-all head.

Was never interested in this at all and are not surprised that this has been canned!
Hasbro have so many lines each with various issues and they keep insisting on introducing new lines? Maybe fix the ones you already have before launching another.

In theory it sounds like a cool idea, but I never once in my life wished I had an action figure of myself. But, that's just me I suppose. I'm not one to put my own picture on my t-shirt or coffee mug either . 🤷‍♂️

Maybe if I was Dustin Hoffman I would get one as a joke to say I was in Star Wars in reference to that Sienfeld episode. LOL!

I tried to do a scan and it looked terrible. Didn’t look anything like me. I do agree there should have been more body options. I think they added the Mandolarian and that was it. Heck give me a rebel fleet trooper or an imperial officer. Socked they didn’t include Jedi outfits.

I tried a scan and it looked ok but why on Earth did Hasbro not offer a Jedi body? I probably would have pulled the trigger on that. I know I could have probably done a head swap if I really really wanted one but I didn't want to go through the trouble.

A jedi body has the neck part showing skin and the hands, so that's more choices regarding color.
The selection of bodies was based on the least amount of skin showing - i.e. the head. Or helmeted figures.
Or in short: Less options, less hassle.

When it was first announced I was very excited...and then found out it wasn't for 3 3/4" figures. I had shunned the 6" scale, and even if I could get a custom figure, I wasn't going to dip my toes into that well.

I was hoping that this year when they announced updates, that they were going to consider opening the series to the smaller-scale of figures, but I do feel in this day-and-age, there isn't enoungh demand to make this thing profitable.

You might be on to something there, regarding demand. Hasbro kind of revealed in the recent quarter report or whatever it's called, that the toys aren't doing so well, if I remember correctly. Couple that with this and I think we have the explanation.

I actually received mine today. I ordered it on Halloween. I think it came out great. The hair color is too light, but my wife saw it and said omg, it does look like you.

I was disappointed because I was going to order another today with the darker hair option. I didn't realize it was being discontinued

I was waiting for some kind of Black Friday discount and was going to order like four different ones as I’ve always thought having a figure of myself would be super cool. I didn’t get around to it sooner after hearing a lot of negatives but was going to go ahead and do it. Like others I thought when they announced new options things were going to get better. Oh well.
