Retro Want List Thread

I’m sure there’s some of that. And it’s not all the way unwarranted. They’re not interested in a few thousand old guys anymore. They need broader appeal and sales to keep it going.
When will they figure out kids don't consume toys or play with them the way they used to, especially boys? It's anecdotal, but there has been a shift from the kids I've seen the last 15 years. They will play with action figures until maybe 7 or 8 now, but beyond that, it's all video games and screens. They certainly don't collect things. If anything, they might have a couple toys in their room that someone gave them on display, but they aren't creating giant battle scenes anymore unless dad is buying these toys and doing it with them.

Dad is still the gatekeeper. Dad is introducing their kids to shows he's interested in and buying them things that maybe he likes if he can get them into his IP's. That doesn't always work, but it's about the only way. Beyond that, it's older males in their 40's buying these things.

In any event, dad is the gatekeeper. Gen X and early millenials are the target audience of all of this. If you don't have them, you don't have anything.

It was clear the old guys are the buyers even ten years ago. But Hasbro seems like they want to let the aging demographic move on. It’s true that a company should look ahead to future buyers, but it doesn’t mean that they should ignore current buyers! Something like this may not have a ton of future buyers; they should get what they can out of it right now.

Kids no longer have a need for imagination which toys encourage. They merely stare at a screen all day being told what to think.
I agree with you and it's sad.

I'm happy to report my 9-year-old son collects He-Man, TMNT, and G1 transformers. :) And his play with all of them is so creative. For the Transformers, we go even farther by buying old broken specimens and we restore the vintage toys together. He's learning a lot taking things apart and fixing them.

Very much an influence of this Gen-X-er as the gatekeeper :).

Yeah, kids have a variety of interests, and while some still buy / collect action figures, those numbers seem to have dwindled heavily since TFA. The 5 POA line for that movie did very well according to reps, outselling SA figures. I think it has been declining ever since, however. With Retro and Epic Heroes, there are less expensive options to secure those demographics, and their gift giver parents, but I'm not sure the demand is strong enough from them. It makes sense to focus a line built on 80s nostalgia on adult collectors foremost, anyone else that bites are a bonus.

I've been reading some posts here and there and lots of collectors seem to think we will be getting the Cantina aliens soon, especially w/ the release of the modern Cantina bar. Wouldn't it be cool if they released Hammerhead, Snaggletooth, Walrusman and Greedo and maybe a couple of new creatures as the next 6 pack? Maybe even pack them in w/ a reissued Creature Cantina playset!

What Hasbro needed to do - an "UNLOCK" tier needed to be just this. A Retro Wave of figures much like the ones you stated. And take a step further, another tier a re-release Creature Cantina or something similar. But yeah, that didn't happen.

Maybe the Retro community can rally together and get Hasbro's attention regarding blue Snaggletooth. I would certainly prefer to be able to buy him on a single card, over a multipack (if everything else is a reissue). I think Retro needs to stay as accessible as possible, because it's still a bit of a novelty, so putting them in a Haslab could eliminate a lot of potential consumers. Several people here didn't even manage to secure the ROTJ set, myself included, so I hope they don't make future products overpriced or hard to come by.

I'd give you nine thumbs up for this thought, if there was an icon for it.
Awwwww, thanks buddy. I bring Blue Snags up every so often. I thing it would be perfect in a six-pack like the ROTJ set from last year.

It could have the four normal cantina figures, (Greedo, Walrus Man Hammerhead and Red Snaggletooth), the rarer figure of Blue Snags, and then one brand new figure which could be anybody. Dr Evazan, Labria, Wolfman, heck even Wuher. Solid gold set of six figures right there.

Edit to reply to DS above: I didnt realize the Jedi set was hard to find until it was already gone. I found mine at Disneyland and they were plentiful there for a while. So hopefully Hasbro would adjust the production numbers enough to account for unmet demand if the cantina figures were released in this six character box set that seems to be the norm with the last few waves.

Nahhh.... that makes way too much sense. Therefore it'll never happen.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Retro Collection Wishlists of late, and still come back to wanting figures from the following - predominantly - Solo themed list:

1) Patrol Trooper (my top choice, great army-builder, OT adjacent, ubiquitous trooper than could fit into most Inperial worlds (including Corellia) in the SW universe. Instant purchase!

2) Mimban Stormtrooper (Love this stormie design, another great army builder, and a slightly earlier version of the stormie.

3) Mimban Mud Trooper (great early Imperial non-stormie look, and another good army-builder choice IMO)

Those are my top three right now, that spring to mind when thinking about wishlists.

:)
