Just studied close ups myself - the amount of details are higher on the originals.

I believe those repro ones don't have copyright information. They have "SLC" where the copyright info should be. That's the company or person that created these. At least for now there putting that on there, but that could easily be changed.

Does anyone know what happened to the customs of the Droids cartoon figures that were never made into figures? Someone made custom action figures based off of these but then he vanished from E-Bay

The seller is Mark Poon. I've noticed he pops up from time to time, sells a few sets, then disappears for a while.

Reproduction, not custom.

Doesn’t matter if it made it to production or not. A knock off is a knock off.

A custom is a unique work of art.

These do have specific tells. Most importantly, the Coo is removed, and replaced with either SS or SLC. The internal “sleeve” if you will, inside of threepios limb sockets are yellow, vs being white on original. The details are also slightly softer on the reproductions. R2s decal is obviously minty white, and the coloring is slightly different. Also, the saber he comes with is slightly off color from an original, and is lacking any EPM marks on the hilt.

They were ugly when Kenner made them in 1985 and they're ugly now. I have no idea how they command high enough prices to be worth faking.

I agree they are ugly but it comes down to rarity I guess. Same thing goes for the vinyl cape Jawa. If there were as many of them as there were cloth versions you wouldn’t be able to give them away.

I know Stan Solo marks his with SS, and the R2 units have a different sculpt on the inside of the bottom. They have an angled molded plastic inner.

I think enough people finished their 93 and are looking to keep the party going so to speak.

Hate repro as much as the next guy, but the Stan Solo droids are pretty sweet and with the SS markings he makes it clear to all that they're repro.
