Careful what you wish for. The like button was removed because it opened an exploit in this old version of forum software that we enjoy. The only way to get it back is to have the software updated. Now I don't know about you, but all of the sites that I regularly visit that have updated their forum software have all introduced a worse forum experience.
Usually they have static headers and footers where you can't scroll them off the screen. Effectively reducing the height of your forum browsing area by a third. Then they have floating pop-up windows whenever your mouse overs over the right spot or link. On a HotWheels forum that I had visited regularlly, they updated the sw and now when you go to click on a thread, once your cursor reaches the link, it pops up a window giving a sneak peak of text of the first post. Well, while that window is up, you can't click on the link, so you move the mouse away from the link and the window disappears. You then have to race to the link and click it quickly before the pop up appears. Just a mess. I don't go there daily anymore. Also the 'remember me' doesn't seem to keep you logged in anymore. One these new forums, I'm always having to login where as this old stuff will remember me as long as I regularly use this PC.
Great post and I agree. I hope this forum stays just the way it is right now. I don't miss the "Like" button so much that the forum basically becomes unusable by adding it back. I hate the adds that are so prevalent on so many sites now and the scripting errors that seem to be associated with them.
