What do you guys thing? Force link sculpt on a vintage card for twice the price?

Is the head on chewie new? I know he’s a repack but he somehow looks better. His legs look like they are spread apart better. I might actually get him and ditch my other chewie’s. Just get down to one.
No, probably the Black Series version minus the rocket boosters. The Chewie has the same headsculpt as the BS ANH one, just better paint apps. Hands down my favourite Chewie and will be buying one for my BMF.

Or the bartender VC one. No current R2 I really want repacked.

Chewie is the TBS one...which itself is a retool of VOTC one. Paint looks far superior and hopefully it won't be crosseyed.

No thanks, seen one release seen em all! There's nothing they can do to make R2 worth it anymore, not at $13. Stick to releasing him in the 5POA line.

When they finally get to ANH Leia, call me! ...
I feel the same, last count I have 9 R2-D2 figures from Hasbro, and that was after I purged a few. I don't need anymore, and I honestly don't know how they can make him different enough to warrant a future purchase. The only one that springs to mind is the second CW version (BAD) that was an international exclusive - I never tracked one down. If they repacked that in the basic line, I'd grab one...

When Hasbro reveal a TVC repack, why on earth don’t they release an image of the packaging. Since that’s the only new part. What are they actually “revealing” if they don’t show that new part.
I would love to see what card the Chewbacca is coming on.
I believe he's coming on his ANH cardback with the Falcon in the background

I finally got down to two R2’s. I have TVC bar R2 and the R2 from the Yoda mission series set. I’ll be getting a third when I get my R2 C-3PO 2-pack next month. And honestly that feels like too many.

The Disney Droid Factory 2 pack R2 is one of my favorites. I like the Tatooine weathering.

You don't like any of the other unique / scene specific versions? The Battle of Yavin damaged version is one of my favorites:

I have to imagine for TVC though, it will be a repack of the sailbarge version, they'll need to include extra accessories to try and net some sales.
The Yakface rumour labelled it as an "E4 R2-D2" so I don't think it will be the Barge version. Probably a re-pack of a different R2 on a Star Wars card to complete another of the original 12.

The new TVC R2 sounds like it’ll be a retooled BAD mold just in TVC card. So if you bought the last single carded R2 from TLJ you can look forward to him being on TVC with a $5 price hike. They better load him up with extras. It’ll be crazy if they don’t.

This is just crazy. So for $2 more, you can get the 2-pack version. It comes with the rocket booster accessory, force link chip, and freaking C-3PO as an accessory. Or you can spend $13 for cardboard.

Meanwhile marvel legends just announced a new Jim Lee beast figure this finishing the Blue Team. Pretty much sums up why interest in Star Wars is waning. Collecting other lines is more fun.

Yeah. It is a letdown. I was expecting repacks but not of ANH R2 or Chewbacca. Now a "Solo" Chewbacca I could understand. But that would not be a repack. I understand Leia Boushh and Han Stormtrooper. I am surprised they havent capitalized on a Luke Stormtrooper repack yet.
I am still hoping we get a Luke Endor at some point with Bib Fortuna. I dont know if we will get Sim Aloo and the like. Ever.
ANH R2 and Chewie are two steps closer to completing the original 12 so I'm guessing that's why Hasbro chose to re-pack them. Good for the carded collectors but I'm personally not excited about seeing another Chewie and R2.

There are rumours that a TVC Stormtrooper Luke is on the way. JTA hinted a while back that Sim Aloo and The Emperor are coming.

Why another re release of Chewbacca and R2?

By now for years we all have R2 figures since Saga Collection and various series. As for open mouth Chewbacca i already have the one from the Black Series line from a couple of years ago.

The only way this figure is even worthwhile is if he is packed to the gills with accessories. I'm sick of TVC figures getting the total shaft on accessories. We pay $13 for a freaking droid that we can still buy in other formats, for less! This is simply the same one in the 5POA 2 pack with 3PO as someone stated previously. That 2 pack is pretty darn awesome. I'm actually curious if this R2 will still have a Force Link chip in it. Might be cheaper just to keep making it the way it is and not cost effective for Hasbro.
here's the thing though...Hasbro has to charge TVC prices on this R2 to remove the Force link chip now

R2 rerelease is a polarising one. First off you have to be a carded collector to be interested at all, and even if that’s the case a lot of buyers still won’t be interested. So it’s easy to see why a lot of people are not impressed. Personally I can’t wait, I’d love an ANH carded R2. Bring it on.

Well, there’s also a segment of collectors who might not have an R2, as well. I can only imagine that percentage of people on these boards is close to zero, but I’m always surprised by collectors who don’t interact or even know about forums.

I’m not mad about R2 being repacked. He and Chewie won’t warm pegs. I’m just disappointed they felt like it would be enough of a cool reveal to be the only thing they revealed.

I'm not sure what to think. I'm happy enough for carded collectors (which I am not) and having an R2 out there isn't a bad idea. However, if it's just a repack of the TLJ one, then it's a cheap move on Hasbro's part. Now, if it has some nice accessories with it (an I doubt it will), then it might make the figure more interesting. I guess it's easier for them to repack an R2 on a TVC card and let it sit longer than some obscure cantina alien, although I'd prefer the cantina alien because I have enough R2s.

For the record, assuming there's something new about this R2, it'll be the 46th different R2-D2 produced for the 4" line (which includes Disney's line).

Hopefully it's more than Hasbro's BAD mold. They literally just put that out, even if it's an online-only 2-pack.

I'm not sure how they can pack an $8 figure into a $13 "premium" line (as they call it). I suppose we'll see how collectors respond when the figure is on pegs. R2 is a popular character, but collectors have enough of the droid, and what kid, parent, or gift giver is going to spend that much on a tiny figure? The same goes for a repack like Revan, that's a $7-8 figure, and with no retooling, I'm not sure how it falls into the category of a premium figure release. The collectors that begged Hasbro to bring this line back should hold them accountable, and discuss these issues at the various cons they're making these reveals at...

R2 would be an OK choice only if it came rigged as the Sail Barge version (VC25). I'm sure it would be a welcome addition given prices on the secondary market.

Good points and they are not premium figures. They are not something I will buy, even if I was disparate for these figures in this scale I would wait for a sale or more accurate price point. I'm not sure I will get Chewbacca either, it is pretty lame offering other than the better paint.

Most of us have been saying it. Make TVC a collector line.

Btw, what do you think about the R2 being all grimed up? Still for me a pretty boring rehash (which I won’t be purchasing), but does perpetuate some interest.
Its the exact same grime as in the EE 2-pack with Threepio

Posted this elsewhere, but feel it applies here too.

I realize this R2 repack ticks a box for some people. However, it could have literally been any unreleased Astro and I'd have been 100% happier! After all an Astro is an Astro aside from the paint deco. So it was a perfect opportunity to get something newish(repaint), while at the same time Hasbro saves Money. Right?

What Astro Droids do we still need from the Movies that could have simply utilized a repaint? I mean really, it's been how long since Hasbro release a sinlge Droid on a cardback, and it's an R2 repack??? ugh...

Really wish they'd come out with some kind of limited small figure sub-line with a cheaper price point. Astromechs should all be released in the star wars universe line and stuff like jawas, ewoks, etc should be multipacks or a single card sub-line.

I’m of two minds about this addition. On one hand, this is fantastic for the ten people left who are still clamoring for a complete revisit of the Original 12 (most of whom I can only presume are of an advanced age, leaving me to wonder why they should be so heavily catered to but I digress). On the other hand, it would be most sensible to re-release or otherwise include the baR2-D2 accessories, though I’m sure the O12 purists would unleash a primal scream of bloody murder despite their impassioned pleas for worthwhile accessories to be packed into the bubble with this release.

Anyway, I’ve got my TVC baR2-D2 so I’m good for my collection.

That's a really good point. There are tons of R2 droids that never had a vintage carded release. I'm with you. It would have been nice to get something new in that dept.

Sensible argument, but lets be honest - some of the purists aren't exactly sensible with their requests. They nitpick about the tiniest of details, and some would rather have less in the bubble simply to match the Kenner figure. This figure is dirty, so it wont match the Kenner version either, they'll likely demand a running change with different deco. I think Hasbro caters to that vocal minority because they are the cheapest figures to produce. Repacking or repainting an existing figure on a new piece of cardboard is like printing money if you can sell enough of them. For the pricepoint, it should at least be the bar R2, and it frankly should be packed with another accessory, like the Wol Cabas***** for example. Since articulation isn't my focus, I want TVC to carry a bit more value for the price they are asking.

I am always short R2, 3pos, Chewies and Vaders. they are pretty much EVERYTHING and good versions get claimed by dioramas and themes hordes pretty quick.
3 of those are rotating back in so. ..I'm in for at least one o each release.
Now a GOOD 3po? well

" thats a name Ive not heard in a long time"

The all have scale or color problems
He has to be VAC ,there is no other way that doesn't look cheap and out of place.
Right now the titanium series is my best one even with the weird arm pose, second place is the ( legacy?) ewok one.

R2s a sometimes pass with a GOOD brushed aluminum paint color.

PASS, not excel, for that as in for ANY c3po,

VAC ATTACK!!!

VAC TO THE FUTURE!!!

VAC IS WHERE ITS AT!!!

Best C-3P0 paint job is still POTF2 removable limbs OR Purchase of the Droids but I dig the TVC 1.0 Sculpt - too bad he’s so small! Should look great next to fat Jabba on the BARGE though!

Purchase of the droids was a great paint job. I’m looking forward to the force link two pack threepio showing up. Finally a weathered threepio again. It’s been what, over a decade since he had weathering apps.

Now that I think about it, it would be hot to get the Disney 40th Anniversary C-3PO and R2-D2 re-released. They looked pretty filthy and dirty is always better

They aren't Hasbro products. But yea it would be nice if Disney re-released them for those that slept on them the first time around.

That set is my favorite rendition of the pair.
