They did release one proper sized one in an ancient SAGA figure. This is definitely cool. And after so many years of seeing the 3.75" ugly fat lightsaber hilt, this one looks fantastic!

#hasbrologicAnd yet, all rereleases in the 2010s have used the ugly fat one.
No robe? Poncho? Commlink? Accessory fail again.
He turned out great. I will buy him. I wish they would add the robe, but of course they will not. Now we will need Ep1 Kenobi to complete the 3 way duel with Maul! I am looking forward to that someday.
The whole concept of companion pieces is something that I think is worth looking at with the Black Series 6" figures. Up until now there was not a TPM character to pair up with Darth Maul. And thankfully we now have Qui-Gon Jinn on the way. I'm hoping that Hasbro is planning on slotting in a TPM Obi-Wan Kenobi in the line soon. Granted, we've got Old Ben now as the SDCC 2016 exclusive, with a general release version to follow. But I'm hoping that in 2017/2018 that Hasbro will offer up an Episode I Obi-Wan so that we can complete a Black Series style "Duel of the Fates" scene.
I really like the idea of companion pieces, and I think it could go even further than just more figures. There are also a lot of figures that could use extra accessories too for a nice improvement such as an E-web for the Snowtrooper coming out this fall. They could also release a set for Jabba that has Salacious and the hooka. A throne for Palpatine would also be a very nice addition. These accessory sets could even be a Hasbro Toy shop exclusive if they don't think they would sell at a retail stores.
That idea is great - selling accesories/etc. I believe they could make a decent buck on that.
Lego does this from their site, even single and small pieces.
But I'm not in a place where I want to willfully pay $50+ for a single 6" figure.
It's kinda pointless to discuss the merits of what a collector wants, as it compares to what other collectors might want. I respect the fact that you don't want to move out of a price point that you are comfortable with, and I appreciate hearing your viewpoint. For me, I have collected the entire Figuarts line so far (except for Darth Vader), and I am now at a point where I don't want to pay just $20 for a 6" figure, since I know that the product I am getting will be worth just $20 - i.e., cheaper materials, less articulation, and dodgy paint applications. You get what you pay for, and this applies to Figuarts and to Hasbro. Although I am excited to see Qui-Gon being made in any 6" line, the Hasbro version will be just a placeholder until Figuarts produces it (if ever). It's hard to be satisfied with the quality of Hasbro products after collecting a markedly superior line. But that's just my perspective, which is no better than anyone else's.
For me it's a budget consideration...But now I have more significant responsibilities and $50 figures are not a viable option financially.
There's also the matter of price creep.
I dig this figure, and think it's well done. I hope Hasbro learns from previous mistakes and just packs him once, in one case, and that's it. Similar to Anakin from 2 years back. Ep3 Obi-wan, along with many of the Phase 1 clones were some of the biggest pegwarmers in all of the Black Series 6" line, and I think this one has the potential to do the same if he's overproduced. While I agree we need more Prequel figures to come into the future waves, they should definitley not over do it with them, otherwise we will be lamenting the pegjam of Qui-gons late next year before Episode 8 hits.
So far, the only prequel figure to not warm the pegs was Jango Fett, and to some extent Darth Maul.
