Hasbro will be releasing a Qui-Gon Jinn figure in the 6" line:

Who's going to be buying this? Thoughts on this figure?

This is definitely cool. And after so many years of seeing the 3.75" ugly fat lightsaber hilt, this one looks fantastic!

Glad to see Qui-Gon get recognized in this line at long last! He's one of my favorite PT characters. And we finally have an appropriate character for the TBS 6" Darth Maul to interact with, too.

Yesssss! *fist pump* He and Hera were two of my top picks, so I'm really thrilled to see them both in the works like this! B)

The sculpting looks really nice. I was waiting for Figuarts to reveal theirs but this one looks great too. Thinking I'm down for this one as well.

I pretty much hate the prequels, but they do make nice toys. And admittedly Qui-Gon is one of the roles I like more than most. I think I'll pick this guy up as he looks incredible. The likeness is spot on!

As previously noted - I never expected to buy any human characters, and this is not super important to me, but will probably get it, if I can pre-order each wave going forward.

No robe? Poncho? Commlink? Accessory fail again.

Who knows what'll be in the package when this figure gets released. It's extremely early to judge it being a fail when the figure was only announced less then 24hours ago.

Well I am conflicted now. I promised myself that Jango Fett would by only PT-specific purchase in this line, but I do love Qui-Gon and this looks really good. I guess final production release will be the determining factor here.

He turned out great. I will buy him. I wish they would add the robe, but of course they will not. Now we will need Ep1 Kenobi to complete the 3 way duel with Maul! I am looking forward to that someday.

Like GNT mentioned above, how do you know they won't? The general release of Ep4 Kenobi has a soft goods cloak, Leia and Luke have soft goods.. I think the chances are better that we WILL get a soft goods cloak.

This is the figure that surprised me the most. I never in a million years would've thought that Hasbro would even bother making a Qui-Gon Jinn figure. But they did a very fine job. I'm excited to buy this figure for my collection, more than I thought I'd ever be.

I am very excited for this figure! As soon as word hits that it is on the street, I will be searching!

The whole concept of companion pieces is something that I think is worth looking at with the Black Series 6" figures. Up until now there was not a TPM character to pair up with Darth Maul. And thankfully we now have Qui-Gon Jinn on the way. I'm hoping that Hasbro is planning on slotting in a TPM Obi-Wan Kenobi in the line soon. Granted, we've got Old Ben now as the SDCC 2016 exclusive, with a general release version to follow. But I'm hoping that in 2017/2018 that Hasbro will offer up an Episode I Obi-Wan so that we can complete a Black Series style "Duel of the Fates" scene.

I really like the idea of companion pieces, and I think it could go even further than just more figures. There are also a lot of figures that could use extra accessories too for a nice improvement such as an E-web for the Snowtrooper coming out this fall. They could also release a set for Jabba that has Salacious and the hooka. A throne for Palpatine would also be a very nice addition. These accessory sets could even be a Hasbro Toy shop exclusive if they don't think they would sell at a retail stores.

Import Figuarts TPM Obi-Wan then once Qui-Gon comes out you'll have a complete Duel of the Fates.

When I talk companion pieces, I really do mean figures. Hasbro did that throne for Jabba back when they did the SDCC exclusive version. But beyond that? It just looks like furniture. I think companion FIGURES are really something Hasbro can realistically dig their teeth into. As for Jabba? We have Leia as Boussh as well as Slave Leia, but how about a 6" Bib Fortuna or a Gamorrean Guard? Pieces like that would really add to a 6" Black Series Jabba display.

Without a doubt, the SH Figuarts TPM Obi-Wan Kenobi is really impressive. But I'm not in a place where I want to willfully pay $50+ for a single 6" figure. Even if I do have this on my Amazon wishlist, LOL!

That idea is great - selling accesories/etc. I believe they could make a decent buck on that.
Lego does this from their site, even single and small pieces.

I'm not a huge TPM fan but this is the figure announcement I'm most excited about. He looks fantastic!

Selling separate accessories is already being done by some Japanese companies, most especially by FIGMA who has a partnership with Little Armory who makes weapons for the 1/12 scale. I also think that selling weapon "packs" and parts for a diorama is cool. Something similar to Figuarts' Death Star Two Throne Room accessory that came out before (I forgot if it was with Vader or with the Jedi Luke).

It's kinda pointless to discuss the merits of what a collector wants, as it compares to what other collectors might want. I respect the fact that you don't want to move out of a price point that you are comfortable with, and I appreciate hearing your viewpoint. For me, I have collected the entire Figuarts line so far (except for Darth Vader), and I am now at a point where I don't want to pay just $20 for a 6" figure, since I know that the product I am getting will be worth just $20 - i.e., cheaper materials, less articulation, and dodgy paint applications. You get what you pay for, and this applies to Figuarts and to Hasbro. Although I am excited to see Qui-Gon being made in any 6" line, the Hasbro version will be just a placeholder until Figuarts produces it (if ever). It's hard to be satisfied with the quality of Hasbro products after collecting a markedly superior line. But that's just my perspective, which is no better than anyone else's.

Happy to see Hasbro not completely abandon the prequels, since there are still a ton of characters that need to be made from those movies.

For me it's a budget consideration.

There was a time when I could go to 2 or 3 conventions a year. I was able to go to Star Wars Celebrations 2, 3 and 4. But now I have more significant responsibilities and $50 figures are not a viable option financially.

There's also the matter of price creep. SH Figuarts is still a relatively new Star Wars licensee. But I could see their prices creeping up over time. It happened with both Sideshow Collectibles' 1/6th scale figure line as well as Gentle Giant with their popular line of mini-busts. Prices in both of those product lines almost TRIPLED over the course of a few years. And having lived through that I am far more hesitant about investing in a new line that may do something similar down the road.

Glad to see Qui Gon get the 6 inch treatment. It definately needs a Maul to go with, so I hope Hasbro push him back out since many like myself didn't get into 6 inch until later waves.

They are supposedly re-releasing some of the older figures like Maul, R2, and pilot Luke...at least I read that in one of the reports from this past weekend. We'll see though.

I can relate to budget issues. I am able to collect Figuarts because their arrival on the scene has caused me to significantly reduce my purchase of Hasbro stuff. With regard to Hasbro, I don't collect vehicles or any 4" figures, and I cherry-pick the 6" figures. That has freed up money (that I would have otherwise spent on Hasbro) to spend on Figuarts. And it is an easy choice for me, given the quality differences between the two manufacturers. So, I am probably spending about the same either way, since I am just re-directing money from one to the other.

There's also the matter of price creep.

I am sympathetic to that concern, but I think that there will always be price creep, and it applies to all lines and manufacturers, and it is now the rule, not the exception. Just look at the rising cost of 4" figures, all while the quality has taken a noticeable dip. So, speaking only for myself, price creep is not a concern, but I can respect the fact that it is a concern for other collectors.

But, out of respect for the topic of this thread, I am still really excited to get a Qui-Gon figure, since he is one of my favorite characters from the prequels.

Great pic from MWCToys.com. Anyone else think his shoulders are too narrow. Liam Neeson had wider shoulders and it seems like past figures had wider shoulders as well.

I dig this figure, and think it's well done. I hope Hasbro learns from previous mistakes and just packs him once, in one case, and that's it. Similar to Anakin from 2 years back. Ep3 Obi-wan, along with many of the Phase 1 clones were some of the biggest pegwarmers in all of the Black Series 6" line, and I think this one has the potential to do the same if he's overproduced. While I agree we need more Prequel figures to come into the future waves, they should definitley not over do it with them, otherwise we will be lamenting the pegjam of Qui-gons late next year before Episode 8 hits.

So far, the only prequel figure to not warm the pegs was Jango Fett, and to some extent Darth Maul.

Forgive me for not sharing your sentiment but, for the vast majority of us Anakin was damn near impossible to find! I never saw one at retail and only just got one a few weeks ago now that the insane online prices have dropped to only semi-insane. Although I was able to find the Phase 1 clones, I never saw them pegwarm and only found the all white Clone (the one that shipped with Anakin) once at Gamestop long after this wave came out.
