Who’s excited for this release?

Yes, but would like to see the following:
  1. Accurate face and head likeness to Carrie Fisher;
  2. Personal blaster and Stormtrooper blaster; and
  3. "Hood down" head and swappable "hood up" head.
Not getting #1 correct would be an absolute dealbreaker. I'm hoping #2 happens. #3 would be a nice addition and option to add a little more value. And hopefully, articulation will be solid too.

Been waiting a long time for this one to happen.

This is a difficult figure to pull off.

If you go full soft goods then you run the risk of her looking baggy.

You go sculpted then her draping sleeves will defy gravity in many poses.

I wish Emily and her team best of luck.

I hope the designers keep in mind reuse potential with the legs and opt for the bare aesthetic versus clothed, that way the legs can simply be painted to look clothed for this version but then repainted for bare skin look when it comes time for Ewok Dress Leia. Because lets face it, without some type of reuse I don't think the latter will ever happen. And being that the legs will be hidden under the dress here, as well as medical frigate it's easy enough to think ahead. They also might even get used for Jabba's prisoner at some point if done with foresight.

As well as maybe some other characters like Garsa, though she is taller.

An entirely softgoods figure would be abominable at this scale. I hope that was not seriously considered. Same goes for Luke. It's been tried and if it worked we wouldn't still be asking for a definitive Farmboy Luke, would we.

I do appreciate though that they'll have a hard time pleasing us, especially with Leia. People can have entirely conflicting views on what ''definitive'' is.

I actually really like the full softgooods on that POTF2 Leia, as a matter of fact, I think the entire Leia Collection had nicely executed softgoods, especially for the era! That said, I doubt they'd try to replicate that in TVC, as all the little articulated joints would be difficult to pose under fabric - it was the 5 POA that made a full fabric outfit viable during those days. What I'm most interested in is proper alternate hoods, which is the most essential element for me.

It's either soft good or they'd need some Figurearts-esque levels of creative articulation to pull this off.

Figuarts Leia is awesome. I’ve made some various sketches about what my “definitive” 3.75” Leia would look like engineering-wise, and that figure essentially shrunk down is what they all look like.

I really, really don’t want any awful soft goods hindering this. At least if it’s sculpted and sucks it would be easy to cut some white fabric and turn it soft goods ourselves.

A swappable plastic hood piece would be fantastic too.

I assume that they will go with sculpted torso and soft goods skirt, akin the Morgan figure.

For articulation purposes that would seem the best solution?

Hood up or Hood down, that is the question? Maybe Hasbro could give us alternate heads. Or more likely, they will actually repack the figure later on with the different headsculpt and cardback. Which I wouldn't mind.

Alternate hoods are an absolute must. I say take the general idea of Figuarts’ Leia and shrink it down.

It would be sick if they included alternate forearms, similar to Dark Times Vader’s alternate hands. Have one set with full, draping sleeves, and the others rolled up to her elbows as they appeared in some action-oriented scenes. I think that would go a long way for posing, without giving her awful soft goods sleeves.

I’m trying to lower my expectations to the floor. I can’t help but keep feeling like it’ll just be the Saga figure with a new head.

Tulgah said it best in the general thread - this is terrifying. I want to see this figure so badly, but I’m also scared as hell that it’ll miss the mark. This is it. This is the last brand new ANH Leia we’ll get for a long time, if not ever.

Dark Times Vader, Bespin Lando, Pilot Luke, and ROTJ Boba set the bar for OT redos.

My ideal ANH Leia is the one on the left with the POTJ 25th Anniversary Swing to Freedom headsculpt and full arm articulation. I don't really need leg movement so I don't mind the salt-shaker aspect to that figure.

With what they are likely to go with - namely SA and softgoods - I don't expect a huge improvement over that 2004 figure to be honest. I'd like to be wrong.

Even if they take the form factor of the 2004 VOTC figure (namely the soft goods approach), there's still lots they can improve. The 2004 has swivel elbows, swivel legs and no ankle articulation at all, for starters. So there is lots to improve there. I wouldn't mind a plastic skirt if it's soft and malleable and has slits up the sides, so leg articulation will still work to some degree at least.

^^Pretty much all this. But I’m fine if they go soft good skirt.

But they absolutely, positively have to nail down the Carrie Fisher likeness. That’s the key essential right there.

It’d be nice if they included her personal blaster.

And swappable hood down/hood up heads would be the proverbial cherry on top. Hood up in plastic preferably, as Hasbro hasn’t done soft good hoods all too well.

It's 50/50 I guess. They seem to be into the soft vinyl plastic these days on certain figures with lower tunics, Dooku, Piett while a few like Morgan get SG's. I'm not sure which I'd rather have SG's or the rubbery plastic, I'm sure the plastic would be visually better detailed and in reality I don't see much in the way of kneeling poses for her anyway.

I suspect that due to her price tag not much will be included other than the blaster, and that any type of head swap option would come later in a reissue if not a DLX with bare minimum added. Though for ANH I don't know what they could include for a DLX release other than the Interrogator Droid.

^ maybe the data chip, albeit very small, she inserts into R2, the trash compactor rod, and/or Yavin command center hologram table, but that may be "too big" for delux.

Yeah, thought about that too but that would also require R2 to be include and we know that isn't happening. He's not a tiny accessory like Grogu. lol

They should go all out for this figure and make it as perfect as it can be. Same with Farm boy Luke.
I’d totally buy “ultimate” deluxe releases of the ANH mains. Charge me more - I want the best possible versions of these characters.

Maybe even make it a set with Artoo and include a new Leia hologram piece, with removable Death Star plans.

Including the Death Star plans with Leia would not require that R2 is included as well

Leia was in possession of the plans before she gave them R2. And I think we all have at least one R2 figure by now, and if not, there's probably one coming soon.

if we're talking about a DLX release, then yes something more is needed. If @R1G4R3PO was talking about a basic release then sure the data plans would be fine. However, how small would that data disc be at 3.75" scale? As big as Shaak Ti's data pad or smaller? I'm well past getting tiny accessories just for the sake of it when all that will happen is it getting lost.

And what's the point of the disc if you cannot place it into R2? And if it's plugged into R2 then you can't see it anyway so why bother? As long as the figure can be posed that way as in the movie it's all good.

I meant all those things in a delux pkg. But yeah, a data chip could be included w/ basic fig but as you say, it'd be far too small to be practical. I was just name a few things to throw into a dlx pkg.

They could make a sculpted swappable hand holding the data chip, so it won't be easily lost.

This is still my chosen ANH Leia to display - with the exception of the headsculpt and paint job, it’s exactly what I want for the character, from the sculpted robes to the hood up. If the upcoming figure disappoints, if there is some way to get the upcoming head onto this body, I’d gladly do it and call ANH Leia done forever.

I generally dislike softgoods, but I can’t see Hasbro remaking Leia without soft goods from at least the waist, down. I can be somewhat understanding of that, but a full softgoods gown would be a major letdown.

I'm eagerly awaiting pictures of it, but I wonder if it can live up to my expectations as well. I think it needs both hood options (in plastic) to be a real hit at this point, not only because of high pricepoints, but they have to go above & beyond tossing a new head on an existing body (medical frigate) for this release. I certainly don't mind some reuse when it works, but the fanfare surrounding her return to this line needs to be met with an equally impressive figure.

Hood up and hood down? That's a $30 deluxe figure. Maybe a $50 dollar convention exclusive.

Half jokes aside - that would be cool and the way to do it. Hood up has been so under represented in figures. The two in one would go a long way to make TVC standout.

I could also see Hasbro getting three releases out of this over the next few years. Hood up. Hood down. ESB ending. Released in that order. Each with a different card back and VC number.

They could add a Rogue One cardback to that list if they wanted to get a 4th figure out of it.

That's the problem with minor variations though, at these prices, buying multiple figures is no longer worth it unless they're significantly different or have extra scene specific accessories, etc. Doing hood up / down as two separate releases is an absolute waste of another valuable slot in a future lineup. At this point in the TVC line, we should only be getting definitive releases, no more BS of having to wait a couple more years for them to revisit a release, those days are over, lol. If Hasbro doesn't abide, more low effort releases will just become clearance fodder. A few customizers have done 3D printed hoods, so Hasbro could easily do something similar, for pennies, and make the hood up / down as clip-on accessories. Get it right the first time!

They really gotta nail down Carrie Fisher’s likeness on this one.
I think they did a fairly admirable job on the TVC Bespin Escape Leia in terms of facial likeness, so I have faith that they won’t disappoint. My only issue with that sculpt was that the two hair pieces on the back of her head appeared smaller than what appeared on-screen.

Speaking of pieces, that Commtech R2D2 with mini holographic Leia figure from 1999 is still one of my all time favorites.

Unfortunately that plus the ugly hips ruined that release for me so I skipped it and still use the preposed POTJ version to this day.

Hoth Leia and VTSC Endor-poncho’ed Leia both have solid facial likenesses too.

But they really haven’t given us a ANH Leia that really nailed down her facial likeness. Hell, I’m using a POTF Leia (New Likeness) in my display still.
