Hasbro have announced that we'll be seeing the Ponda Baba figure back in the Walmart Black Series line.

Anyone going to purchase it?

DEFINITELY! I never got TVC version, so if I can find ol' Ponda in stores I'm getting this. Superb figure, and it will go nicely with my TVC Dr. Evazan. I just hope it comes with all of the accessories (second set of hands, extra arm, glass etc.) that the TVC version came with.

I'm thinking that the Ponda/Evazan cameo in Rouge One may have had something to do with this re-release..

IF I see it, I'll get it. I hope they fix his shrunken head though.

I have the one I needed for the Cantina diorama, but I could use one or two more for custom spacers and such.

I flipped my VC version for like $50 a few months ago when this was rumored. Glad it worked out.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge

While I have needed this figure for a long time, I now feel almost no desire to get him anymore. it feels as though the wind has been knocked out of my sails.
If I do see him in my travels and he's on sale, i may bite. I just don't feel like anyone is trying to get me to buy their merchandise...

I haven't seen any carded figures of this Ponda TBS 3.75" figure, so we have no idea if it'll come with all of the accessories that the TVC version came with. In any case, I'll be getting this either way.

I never saw Ponda in stored back during the Vintage Collection days. I'm hoping I will have better luck this time!!

Definitely, the prices for him on eBay are outrageous. Glad Hasbro chose to rerelease this guy, I hope they do the same with Dr. Evazan.

Definitely want to pick up a couple of these guys. I lucked out and got one at Walmart when it was first released. I want at least one more to customize for Jabba's palace.

Definitely getting it. Haven't bought him since the relaunch in the mid 90s, so yeah it's a hair of a step up from what I had before.

The TVC wave he was in, hit pretty heavily here. I was able to pick a few up and this is one of my favorite TVC figures. I'll pick up at least one more.

I'll definitely get this guy. For the longest time i was planning on using the one I have in a custom, but decided at the last minute to get another one and keep one intact. Dropped that plan the second I took a look at his secondary market prices. Now I'm free to do it!

What I really want though is for them to rerelease his wave mate the Hoth Rebel Soldier!

Well holy crap. I saw the photo and was afraid it was the next wave of 6", just to rub our faces in it. Yes I'll take one, maybe two if both sets of hands are included. Thank you Hasbro.

Ponda actually pegwarmed here a bit back in the day, it's a nice figure so it's worthy of a reissue especially since he appeared in Rogue One.

His arms have the perfect ribbing on them for a Gailid custom. I'll need to learn how to crack a torso!

So that's where all the Ponda Babas wound up... in Australia!! I was lucky to get the one I got.

Does anybody know when he and the rest of the wave are supposed to actually drop? Not like it matters much anyway because some of the waves that were released nearly a year ago I didn't start seeing until December this year, but I just thought I'd ask anyway.

I wouldn't say he pegwarmed, but that case had a lot of great figures in it, or at least, a lot of figures that hadn't hit retail here in Germany at that time, but he was easy to find. Even the EBT was fairly easy to get, but I think a ton of cases got sent here because the stores in the US were already full of the other cases.

Amazing! I'm in the U.S. and searched for this TVC Ponda @ retail stores everywhere when it was out (2011/2012?!). I didn't see a trace of this. I thought it was HTF everywhere.

I found one at a Suncoast and another at Toysrus. Those were the only times I saw the figure in the wild.

I don't believe that wave with Ponda & the Echo Base Trooper was ever easy to find in the U.S. I never once saw it in a store and even the forums here back in Sep '11 when they hit, hardly had anybody reporting of sighting of them in the wild. I got mine from amazon or HTS if I remember correctly.

The head on this figure is so laughably under-scaled and pinsizeod. For some reason, the new pic Hasbro is using for TBS re-release makes it look even worse.

Here are some mock-ups I did back when this figure was originally announced back at TF '11 - can't believe that was 6 years ago now! Anyways, this is how he should have been sculpted. Not sure why his head was shrunken down to the size of a pea. IMO, Ponda was the worst offender of the shrunken head syndrome that affected a few figures (Ponda, Sgt Doallyn and ReeYees).

Also, here are some pics I posted on here back in Oct '11 of my custom I did. Used the Bust-Ups head to improve the figure to awesome/perfection status.

Looking forward to picking this guy up, but yeah, the Tusken elbows and Ponda head could and should have been easy fixes.

Ponda must have been comparatively easy to find in the Philadelphia area. He definitely wasn't a peg warmer by any stretch, but I was able to find at least two, maybe three of him.

I honestly don't mind the too-small head of this TVC/TBS 3.75" Ponda Baba. It's still a great figure, with amazing detail. And, it's far superior in every way to the '97 POTF2 figure - and I thought the '97 figure was decent when that came out.

The body is great and the extra hands are a great touch. The removable arm is really nice. But that head, it's the worst shrunken head that they did, the scale is miles off. I am just happy the POTF2 head holds up great IMO.

every body have a different opinion, u can't pleased every body. I for one believed the release of Ponda is a bad idea, while it's in my opinion that its the better Ponda in the SW line and SA and very detail. Do not think it will sell good, since most collectors won't buy more than 2 toys. more like maybe one and maybe a second to keep MIB. most of the times obscure characters don't tend to sell good at retail, since KIDS don't know who the hell is this guy, hope that because he was for like half a second in R1, kids recognized him.

But comparatively speaking, Ponda is one of the more prominent Cantina aliens. Him, Evazan, and Greedo are significantly featured in important scenes. They're not just background characters.

LOL!!!! yep u are right they are important for us, for the SW enthusiast and aficionados who's been collecting or buying toys since the beginning!! not for the regular kid or occasional Mom and Dad buyer, most kids want the main characters not the obscure ones, regardless if some ppl believes they are important for the movie, because the ones running the story along and the complications of the characters are for the main characters not background characters.

Ask my kid (11 years old soon to be 12) who have watched the A New Hope at least 10 times a year, LOL, or every time it's on TV, LOL, who this guys are, and he will answer with "I don't know and Don't care" o they have toys? OK, "still don't really care" as long as I get a Luke, Han, Galek Marek (Starkiller) and now Cassian and Poe action figure, and he always needs some Empire or First Order trooper to fight, he is not interested in any background characters or specific bad guy from the movies, he just simple don't care, and all his friends that go to my house and play (5 kids at a time) don't care neither, LOL. I care, but that's just me cause got all the toys since 1977 on 3.75 (SA or not).

When I was a kid I liked the more obscure characters. My dad would always grab some obscure EU figure or HTF background character for me at Comic shops when he went on trips. It was much more important for me to have a bigger variety of characters (and background ones at that) and obscure ones like 8D8 were my favorite. I feel like Hasbro expects kids only want Han, Vader and Luke from the OT, but I think some more obscure characters would do well if Hasbro really tries to offer a nice product.

As a kid & as an adult, I've preferred the obscure, alien, background characters (primarily in the ANH Cantina & Jabba's palace) than the more common ones like Luke, Stormtrooper, Han, etc.

Back in the day, the four Vintage Cantina aliens (Walrus Man, Greedo, Snaggletooth, and Hammerhead) were probably my favorite figures.

I loved the aliens too. They were more solid figures than Darth and Han (the only figures I had to constantly replace because of the crappy heads). Overall, Kenner did a much better job with the alien figures than the main cast did. ROTJ was the first line where the main cast figures were really good except Vader, who was never updated back then.
