Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Vader (Showdown) 2-Pack VC#290 & VC#291

Hasbro seems to do that for several figure releases, it's like whoever chooses said photo for the cardback has no idea what how to use imagery to "sell" a product. Or it's sheer laziness knowing people will, buy regardless cuz Vader.

And since it's his battle-damaged look why didn't they choose to go with that particular screen shot instead of what appears to be a photoshop image of his normal look?

I'm glad they made this, but I'm having a hard time getting excited about it.

It strikes me as too soon when we just got them both, and are essentially swimming in Obi-Wan figures with a repaint in a Multipack. Then we're in store for yet another Vader release next year. I get that they want to cash in on that new mold but making every version known in the first two years isn't necessary. They went just as bad if not worse with Boba repaints but have yet to release the one everyone actually wants an update of, ESB.

If they're scrambling that badly for something cheap to fill the line with I've got about 20 Legacy figures I'd like to see reissued...
I'll admit the new Vader mold is great but try not to make it tiresome before it's time!

Just got this and have to say the Obi-Wan has now become my favourite version of him, the face sculpt is much less Chuck Norris and now favours Ewan more, I really hope an updated ROTS Obi is on deck soon. I haven't seen it mentioned in any reviews so far but the cut of Vader's cape is the best seen, not as voluminous as other recent releases and gives me great excitement for the forthcoming ANH Vader.

I swapped kenobis weird little legs out with some others that looked similar. They’re a little bulky and have lost the ball jointed hips but at least they now bend at the knees rather than at the shins. I’m keen to hear which you prefer. Does anyone else have trouble with vaders helmet sitting on his neck piece properly too?

Neat. I never did like those Kenobi legs, felt they were too skinny and slightly too short.

The proportions for where they placed the knee joint throws it off. For some reason they gave the figure weird overly long upper legs and really short lower legs. The Super Commando types have similar problem but not as bad since the knee pad armor disguises it .

Yeah the legs look ok until you bend them. Wonder why the got it wrong on the TVC kenobi but ok on the BS one..

Probably just a mistake in the downsizing process causing the joint to either placed too low or too high. Something that should have been caught during the prototype stage with a tasting of the physical model, but was probably overlooked due to factors like added costs if it were to be redone or a timing issue as it would have made the figure's release much later than what we got.

It was that dark, though I think it wound up getting dirty due to him being dragged through the elements during the fight. This is very different from his final scene Jedi Tunic though, which is the one I actually want.

Finally got this set yesterday after some delays in shipping, and somewhat disappointed it has similar issues as a few other figures in that the neck joint on OWK might as well be swivel for all the range of motion it has. Glad that I got it on sale and only wanted them for custom fodder.

It was all at night so I'm not totally sure. I lean towards not, that most of it was due to shadows and getting dirty due to being dragged through the mud. I want to say that it looked lighter in color when he first adorned it before leaving on his mission, as just about anything under the twin suns do.

I personally would it like to have different lower arms as well so that reflect the jedi attire more accurately. Though I guess I'll just have to wait until they retool it some for an inevitable background Jedi character.

I was actually waiting for the "Jedi Legend" version that TBS got, but it really does seem unlikely so soon, as it would require new legs and skirt piece.

I just opened my pack after all this time, nice figures. Might give Vader a Dark Trooper forearm or hand, make him more resemble his defeat look from TFU.

Personally, I'm a big fan of any "special feature" Darth Vader variant, and love the battle-damaged helmet (even though it's a little hard to align perfectly in all instances).

Has anyone tried popping this Vader head on the Dark Times or ANH body? Wanted to recreate the duel from Rebels where he only sustains damage to the helmet and not the body / cape, but unsure if the neck connector is different due to the Anakin head underneath.

I'm pretty sure the "cut" into Vader's helmet in Rebels is on the opposite side of what we see in Obi-Wan. So a Rebels Vader would need to be a completely different release, but with today's technology, recreating that helmet to be accurate to Rebels shouldn't be too hard for Hasbro. I'd buy a Rebels Vader in a heartbeat.

You're definitely correct, however, only super nerds like us know that! I'm just looking to get close for now.

After the OWK episode aired, I saw a pretty cool image of Vader with the cut helmet from Rebels and Ahsoka nearby, an image with the cut from Obi Wan on the otherside of the helmet with Kenobi nearby and the image of him from ROTJ with thr helmet off and Luke next to him. It had some sentimental quote about the people who cared the most were the only ones who were ever able to get close to getting through his armor. It was pretty cool to see the images lined up together (it was in rows).

That's how I remember the cuts were on opposite sides.

Still curious if this one can be head swapped with the Dark Times or ANH Vader, if anyone has tried it or has the two and would be willing to. Don't worry... it's not to try to recreate the scene from Rebels. The helmet orientation would be all wrong- that would be silly. ;)

But the Obi-Wan is unique and why wouldn't you want the Obi-Wan that goes with the Vader?

You can't recreate the awesome Vader scene without that Obi-Wan anyway, so I don't mind that they came together.

What was more of a problem was the increased price point, since they came out at £20 each instead of £16.99. But I managed to get one on sale for less than RRP. Think I paid £34 or something which I was fine with.

IKR. It would be nice to have options right. I hate being forced to buy other figures with multipacks. I would only want the Vader.

True, more flexibility in buying options is always better.

I personally didn't mind it since both were unique.

The Sabine/Chopper two pack was more annoying since I already have multiple Choppers and definitely didn't need another.

Such a kick in the teeth to everyone who has to buy another Obi-Wan that they dont want, to get that awesome Vader.
IDK, the only selling point for me on this set was the Jedi tunic which meant I sold off the Vader. So it can't be that difficult to attain, can it?
And vice versa, sell off OWK if you only want Vader. Though I suppose he's not worth as much as Vader.
Hasbro has been doing this kind of thing for decades though.

I felt the bigger offense was the Mando ultimate battle pack with whistling darts for $80, which was the only way to get that accessory.

I am wondering how well these 2pks did because this one is still available as is the Revan, yet I don't see the Ewok set. I like the concept of them though and hope to see another one with Teebo and Latara. TBH this format is how they should have handled Ahsoka the white and ghost face Morgan. Because we all know they'll trot out this same Ahsoka redo again for S2 on a basic card.

Im not saying its the biggest problem in the world.
Im just saying its a dirty practice from Hasbro. Its like the 6 packs. Yes it makes sense for a business. But it doesnt make sense for the consumer. Theres not a single advantage for us. Often with multipacks, the advantage is price, but that doesnt apply here. And yes, I know Hasbro doesnt care. I'm just saying.
