Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Vader (Showdown) 2-Pack VC#290 & VC#291

You know what I'm very curious about, is why we've yet to see a DLX Vader? Are his paitn apps simply not as detailed/extensive as Paz or Sabine's?
Not that there is anything they could really pack in with him to justify DLX, unless they revisit the Bespin crates from TSC release. That's the only time I recall seeing him interact with set pieces. Even new media hasn't really shown him with equipment interaction.

Because in today's Money a 500th type release would be closer to $35-40.

I wouldn't mind a redo of their Bespin Duel with a new take on the gangway platform section, but again it would be pricey.

I've seen some customs of other sections like the room those crates are in with a window, as well as a complete gangway. And also wouldn't mind having, but those feel more like Pulse Exclusives on par with the BOBF throne room. And unfortunately none of them are from new media.
 
Torn, I need multiple obis but only a Vader or two, Obis head looks like an awesome upgrade over the others

Even the Marvel legends team has admitted with certain figures "we have a really nice alternate head sculpted for this figure, but when we started pricing out the wave, we had to cut it. But there's other costumes this character wears..."

And then also, with Vader in particular, should that just be a mainline release anyway? OR should the Dark Times Vader be a carry forward since it was a pretty universally popular figure?

I'm not disagreeing, just curious how other people would like to get figures like this.

In the main line at a lower price point.

But I'm just a rogue who dreams of the old days (and has bowed out of much of the newer offerings including the Ghost).
 
^ yeah, that's really the gist of it. I've got no use for that Vader and I might have gotten OWK on sale for custom fodder. But as a $40 2-pk it's a complete 200% pass. Heaven forbid they release an Ewok 2-pk, I just can't see where they'd be worth $20 each!

They are, and the ewoks are repaints at $18.50 each. $1.50 difference, can't buy a can of Pepsi or a single donut anymore. Lol
 
Yeah, but I kind of chalked that pack up to a niche release due to its theme from the old cartoon. And the fact it is a Fan Channel meaning fewer units made than main line stuff. My comments are more directed towards a non carded 2-pk, if they ever go that route again like the old Kmart ones. I'd be hard pressed to pay $20 each for an Ewok repaint in the basic line of say Chubray, Wunka or Romba etc. Even Chukha-Trok and I've wanted that figure for like 30 years. I cannot justify all these higher prices just because they on a TVC cardback because to me it's garbage 90-95% of the time. Droids: Fett, Vintage Fett and the Ewoks: Wicket & Kneesaa are the rare exceptions.

Especially when it comes to the Astromech repaints, they're simply reusing the same mold that once sold for $8 along with other less articulated figures of that era. The only reason is was passable/acceptable then is because it was only $8 for a 5POA figure every once in a while, as the other more articulated figures made up for it. But to try and pass of that same 5POA Droid today at $17? I'm simply not having it and will pass every single time, especially when they increase the basic figure price to $18-19 next year.
 
the dark color for the torso for SHowdown Kenobi would be great to customize into an Expanded Universe Jedi Master Luke Skywalker figure if you use the Crait Luke head basically

therefore didn’t give me much to work with.
 
anyone able to use a visa or AmerExp pre-paid gift card on DD? I tried to order one several time this am and it would not accept the card siting cannot verify name/address on card. Tried to link card to pp and pp would not accept the card despite having an old expired (now removed) AmerExp prepaid card linked. Even tried to use same card for Hasbro pulse premium before committing to the ghost, then later tried to order tbs holiday ewok, and they wouldn't accept the card both times. A buddy of mine, same issues w/pulse and another site. So far, Amazon has accepted adding this card for preorders, but no charges at all yet made since receiving the gift card. It's still has its full balance in tact.

So this now makes 5 items Amazon is "behind" other sites. 1) remnant speeder bike set, 2) Kenobi v Vader, 3) Mando N1 fighter, 4) Sabine, & 5) reg. Krrsantan

FYI it isn't just Star Wars, several items have missed their release date, or at the very least not enough arrived in the initial shipment to fill all orders.
 
^ well it's 5 items I've personally ordered so that's why I'm only aware of these particulars. I would not have the slightest idea if Taylor swift released a new cd last week --not that I would even give a 🐀's )•( if she did-- and Amazon' hadn't shipped any out. But I surely wouldn't believe that it's limited to sw items/ figures.
And for these 5, it's not that inital stock arrived and wasn't enough, because the eta has not changed.

in case anyone else is interested...here are backside pics of the 2 card backsides (in hand pics, not mine, from eBay). No surprise #290 - OWK and #291 - Vader ..oh and Vader is dubbed "Duel's End" not "Showdown" as OWK is. and cards ...unpunched too

Hit my pile of loot at BBTS last week.

Ive noticed all my Mcfarlane DC orders on Amazon are getting pushed back every few days. I’ve actually quit preordering anything from them at this point….save their exclusives.
 
Looks like sometime today, amazon updated release date to 0ct 14 2023...tomorrow, but if you put it in your cart and go thru chkout, eta is still early Dec. Hoping thier system hasn't updated eta calculations yet. But I guess we'll see if they update to in stock tomorrow and update preorder eta's.


Update- just got email eta update.. now 10/16 & my order is already prepping for shipment

I got the same notification, and my set should arrive Monday.

There's nothing quite like those "Delivery estimate update" emails from Amazon that show an early delivery. And for THIS set, that I have anticipated so much and got so frustrated with when no information came out about it in the months from its pipeline reveal to its product reveal.

These guys will occupy a premium spot in my figure set-up.
 
Got my shipped notice about 2 hours ago.
Funny thing though, I have not seen it "in stock" all day except for delivery in 1 to 2 months, but not as a preorder. AND a friend of mine texted me about 20 min or so b4 I got my shopped notice, and ge said he read on social media, many were saying they got the updated eta then wad upda y Ed again about a delay until Dec again. WTF? I guess anazon got a small allotment maybe? I don't know. I'm just glad mine is in transit for Monday delivery and I can then cancel pulse back up preorder which they updated to ship approx 10/25

You know what, I know this has been one of those niche most wanted items ever since that "What if" reveal long ago, I do wonder as to the likelihood of said set being that the collecting community has shrunk since that showing. It's definitely not a DLX release though! lol

But it does make you wonder if it could be done in a similar footprint as the BOBF throne room as a Pulse Exclusive? Not that it would/should cost $100-200, because in reality all we're talking about is a small chunk of plastic in the shape of a pyre. Which would likely amount to about as much plastic as two Dais has, then you'd simply include Luke and Vader which already exist and would be the biggest factor in driving up the cost. So probably could be done in the range of $90 just like the new Jabba set salted for 24 considering it utilizes significant reuse.

Me personally wouldn't have an interest in it, mainly because of said reuse of figures involved, but secondarily because I have no Endor dio to place it in. So without a new Ewok Village it's a non-starter for me. I'd honestly prefer those resources be put into some other more action oriented scnes, specifically Hoth related.
 
A Vader funeral pyre release should've been this year to end rotj40th. But really would hasbro done that when they totally ignored Ewoks? ( not counting animated 2pk)
 
So, so happy to have this set in hand!

I don't think Disney will do anything with this franchise that will resonate with me as personally as this show, and even this scene in particular, did. A gorgeous set

oh the Ewoks 2 packs are coming. The anniversary is next year


 
It would be nice if they could milk at least two more sets for Ewoks animated, because we still very much need Latara! And would be an easy repaint of Kneesaa with new tooling for a hat/cap and necklace. Then tool a new head to make Teebo. Possibly repaint Nippet into Malani and Wiley for added value of the $40 price tag.

While Chukha-Trok isn't a simple repaint like the Wicket & Kneesaa set are and would require some new tooling it shouldn't break the bank at $35ish for the set. Pack him in with a proper Kaink w/staff and it's very doable. There's also Deej Warrick which Hasbro has never done yet.

Frankly since Chukha-Trok did appear in the cartoon they could very well do another animated 2-pk with him and Asha from the Warrior Ceremony. Either way I think with another 2-3 sets they could totally cover both the animated series and Ewok movies sufficiently. I mean it's not like we'll ever get any of the non Ewok characters anyway, so..
 
I would be in for some Yub Nub Ewoks from the Animated series. Almost seems like time is running out for these OT oldies but Goodies figures.
 
Good to see them showing up, i love the cardback pictures they’ve used.
 
Yeah, the card backs look good, would have liked an image of Vader with cracked helmet and Anakin staring through instead though. If anybody is going to have an extra carded Vader available please pm me.
 
Missed opportunity in my opinion for a better card back on that Vader.
