I found all the figures except Boba Fett at Walmart yesterday. The only time I've ever seen these figures in stores.

I can't complain. All I need is my 3rd "just in case" Boba Fett, and I passed on two Boba's. So I did ok.

I'm trying to track down a Boba to trade for a Prototype Vader. I've never seen that Vader at retail or online. I've only spotted a full wave of ESB figures once, and I think they've dried up at retail, so I'm probably SOL. Shame this line is hoarded so heavily.

Where was the prototype Vader sold? I though he was a con exclusive or something. I don't think it's about hoarding. I know at least two Wal Marts here that still have them, in "clearance". No Fetts. I wish we'd gotten Hoth Stormtrooper or something instead so there wouldn't be this issue.

The prototype Vader from last year was a Target exclusive figure. It was available online and in stores for a very limited time. Was able to get 2 online and have it delivered to my local store. Pretty cool figure with very nice cardback.

The Target Vader was a sdcc shared exclusive. They would go up at random times between 1 and 10 am. A lot of lost sleep but was able to get quite a few which were shared with fellow scummers. This fig now gets between 50 and 70 on ebay... Better off just buying a 25 dollar fett at that point.

I have yet to see any of these at retail in my area,,, then again, perhaps they have hit the stores and sold out immediately?

I figured there would have been plenty of those Vaders available if you consider the amount of dislike and mocking of these when they were revealed.

More than likely scalpers or people that tracked them via brickseek took them by the case.

No kidding. I remember the outrage on some message boards. I happened to get one for me and one for my son from Target online and I'm glad to have it in my collection.

people also mocked the entire line, so more for me...lol or so I thought. In the first week, I found tons of them, even bought around 10 stormtroopers for my death star playset, then people saw how nice they were and tried to find them.

I thought so as well, but some collectors & scalpers would buy entire cases at retail, and if a store only received one case, the rest of the local collectors didn't have a chance. The same thing happened online, people would place multiple orders at 3 AM and end up with a dozen or more of them.

Wonder why collectors and scalpers weren't up til 3am hoarding up those gold skywalker saga figures? It's weird how those people set the scale on what to make rare.

It's as if Scalpers know in advance what people are actually going to want...if these bottom feeders can do it so intuitively why cant Hasbro lol?

Scalpers are collectors too, and they follow what is coming as well as case assortments.

I'm guessing it's a health issue? In case some kid is knawing on his figures.
Hasbro still uses vac metal for their Transformers rereleases.

Vac metal has been a part of toy manufacturing for decades, so I would call BS on any health issues and just assume it's a cost issue.

Don't feed the scalpers!
I know. Terrible isn't it.
This shop specialises in import toys, vintage and modern.
The first wave was released in toysrus and a few select hobby shops with Japanese Tomy stickers on them.
I'm hoping the second wave will be out soon.

While I agree 100 percent about not paying scalpers, the truth of the matter is someone else will. If we say no way and stomp our feet, unfortunately, we will be saying no and stomping our feet while we watch our piece go home with someone else.

I can't stand the people who make a living at being scalpers and taking away our joy of finding these and paying regular prices. Every employee that gives me the time of day always say, it's the same people that come in and clear the shelf. It's a profession now. They actually know when they are scheduled to go out on the floor.

I told you guys about the Miami seller that had at least 3 pegs full of prototype vader at last years comic con , selling them at 60 bucks a pop.

I hate it and wish there were ways to stop, but it's not going to. We have 2 choices. Buy or dont buy.

There is a chance I missed them at my local stores, but I checked brickseek daily. Sometimes twice. I feel pretty confident saying they NEVER made it to my stores at all.

Find a way to make it not worth their while. Hasbro should make enough so they can't inflate the prices.

Hasbro could make more, and we can not buy. We can also buy, in large numbers, and be such problematic customers who ultimately get refunds, that they switch careers.

Hasbro has had issues with overproduction for years, so I think they're finally at the point where they'd rather produce a smaller amount that is almost guaranteed to sell out, rather than ship leftovers to discount outlets. When a line sells out online and at retail, its a positive sign for the brand, so they're probably not worried about a minimal lingering demand. Unfortunately, they probably don't care about scalpers either, so long as the products are selling. Hasbro and some retailers have tried to limit purchases, but the scumbags will always find a way to get around it.

Found a Boba Fett in a store here in Tokyo for a high price. Looks great but I am reluctant to pay that(I guess over 60usd).
are there any Japanese toy stores online selling these.. I would like a foreign variant of these to add to my collection.

You're spot on darth_sidious. Overproduction hurts them because large retailers either stop buying product, or they insist Hasbro take it back for credit, both of which are bad for them.

The problem with things being too hard to find though is that not everyone is eager enough to spend days chasing down figure X, or willing to pay over retail for an item that was just released and eventually they become like me. A hobby is supposed to be fun, not a second job, so I just don't buy Hasbro stuff anymore.

Ask Playmates how well their limited run of figures worked out for them.

Remember when we didn't have computerized inventory and you could still randomly find cool old stuff marked down at random stores? Le sigh.

Two stores that have websites and have in-store stock:
Toy Yamashiroya and Robot Robot (where the Boba pic is from).
However, these seem to be the import versions.
Toysrus had the Tomy relabelled releases and looks like they've gone.

If these are in the system already, They might be here sooner than you think. get those pre-orders in so you too can get burned whilst scalpers make off with the goods you paid for...

I think this will be a hybrid wave...

I guess I'll be watching as close as I can? Not sure how to watch. I still haven't found the He-Man sku's to check Brickseek with. I doubt these will be available to pre-order before Toyfair. But maybe.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you found that figure at RobotRobot's Akihabara branch, right? I keep on forgetting that one since my preferences tend to have me visit the one in Nakano Broadway. But either way, every store I have visited (including Star Case) would probably have that figure in the 4,800-6,800 JPY range because it is a rare import. And it will also sell since there is always that Star Wars otaku who'll pay premium for a rare import.

So my advice is to either wait for TakaraTomy to bring them to the local shops or wait until DST, BBTS, EE, etc. has them up for pre-order and have a friend help you get them that way.

Don't feed the scalpers!
But buying from RobotRobot would take money from scalpers! Plus they have some very smexy vintage stuff for sale on their website. Something scalpers cannot have since they are not that good at business. ;)

You bring up a good point that they may come earlier than expected. The current ESB retro wave was first found in the Walmart system in December so it is interesting that wave 3 is are already in the system in August.

The photo is from the Nakano store.
They also have it at the Akihabara branch.
I don't know their connections, but they certainly got a couple of waves in.

You know, you raise a fair point about it being an import.
One that does indeed seem quite hard to find even in the States.
Therefore, all things considered, such a price shouldn't be too surprising.
I wouldn't part with the cash, but yes, someone will.
