Whilst expensive, I was expecting it to be double that and had intended to pass on it.

Looks fantastic to me and given the pricing I've decided I'm now on board with the PO

The ship looks amazing but I was hoping that the base was a smidge wider and longer than the actual ship so that an acrylic cover can be fabricated for it.

I'm on the fence because of that but she's a beauty for sure.

Congrats on your upcoming PO! Always nice when these things come in lower than we anticipated.

Why would a smaller base hinder an acrylic cover? If anything, it should make the process easier.

I thought it would be alot more also. Merlin Models painted kit is about 3k. This is a good deal.

To have a cleaner look similar to the Master Replicas and eFX ships. The acrylic cover would rest on the base as opposed to the table our whatever furniture you have it on.

Aha, I'm tracking now... thanks for the further explanation and example pic. The place I get my custom acrylic covers from comes with a black sub-base... so I guess I assumed this was always the case, but it makes since that some offerings are just the acrylic cover.

Anyone tried to get a custom mirrored base for a studio scale ship? I know it'd be expensive but that way you could try to better match the MR look. I'm not sure what I'll do for the Tantive IV display but planning to preorder anyway.

Ah, now I see where you're coming from. For the eFX TIE, I brought the base to my local plastics shop and asked them to fabricate an acrylic cover to fit. I also asked them to heat-roll the top front and back edges to match the Master Replica-style.

It's possible they might have a black sub-base available there. I'll have to check next time.

Very nice that you were able to go local with yours! I tried doing the same with my local places, but each one turned me down... said my jobs were too small and they only worked on jobs with higher piece counts. So I ended up going with Cases for Collectibles (the site seems down now) back in May 2021. They did a decent job. Looks kinda like this:

But the acrylic and base aren't as thick as this sample. This also looks like it has more rounded edges where mine still have super sharp edges (I even cut my hand setting them in place). Next time I will probably try Displays2Go (where this pic is from).

Oh, and I can tell everyone NOT to get this case from Legend Studio. We just got it delivered and we're sending it right back for a refund. The dimensions are wrong, the base and top are a hollow and cheap plastic, and it's just all around not worth it in any way.

Julian, are you planning to pre-order?
Unfortunately, I'm forced to pass on this one, Kevin. My Star Wars room can only hold so much :), and I have the TIE Fighter and Snowspeeder coming in. But trust me, it hurts me not being able to pick up this one. Are you pre-ordering one?

Question for those who have bought MYC products before - do you think the parts that are PU will degrade within a few years? I mostly buy statues and busts that contain zero PU so as not to deal with any degradation issues.

I'd love a Gundhip. Just got a hold of the Code 3 one. Have to give it a dark wash to make the colors pop more.

Got my preorder done
I've had a nightmare with it. Tried for 30 minutes on 2 different browsers and the page kept crashing and when it did load I couldn't add it to me cart. I've tried on and off over the next hour but same problems. I've emailed them to see if they can do something

Very well done ship, the base could be bigger so it's possible to add an acrylic cover around it.

Yes, I debated on this one for a little bit… but after seeing some additional pics that suggest a more matte finish than my previous glossy MYC Models, I am all in! :)

Thanks for sharing. She looks beautiful, but space is such a premium.

I understand. Sooner or later that's every collector's nightmare. I'm there with you. I'm just glad these vehicles are getting made and are there for the community to pick and choose from as he or she sees them fit in his/her collection. I don't think licensed sources have any interest in making these, so as it usually happens, it is up to the little guy, the small business, the fan to offer what many of us want to see made. Happy to share it! :)

Some years ago I thought of getting a complete painted version of Merlin directly with the base and the pod:

But did not have space for it. Maybe an option for those that missed out the MYC version, which should be the same.

It includes a fully painted escape pod and a detailed base that takes more effort to build and paint so in total still a good deal for those who missed out on those 2. In fact those models are always the same sculpts. :)

and only $3299 ;)
Yeah. MYC offers a product that is accessible by most collectors. While not cheap like a toy, it is a high end collectible beautifully painted and made that easily compares to what official makers once made and no longer make. The idea is that for a fair price you bring home a collectible that has quality and you'll feel proud to own. Of course there are offers out there with models painted with archive paints, more of this and that IF you have deep pockets to pay for those. I once asked someone in the RPF about making a Escape Pod for me and the guy wanted $14,000.00 for one! For thousands and thousands of dollars less I have the MYC model which looks great and I still have money in my pocket to pay bills, keep collecting and what have you. If some people want a Mercedes Benz and can afford it, fine! Others go for a Toyota or a Kia according to their budget and the world keeps rotating. In the end, just like Steve Jobs said from his death bed: "I've come to realize a ten thousand dollar watch and a one hundred dollar watch will still give you the same time.
