That’s a nice sentiment to have.

My dad did the same except, I never had the discipline to not open them. I chewed off both the ends of a vader and luke. Sorry dad!

Did people have an inkling in the 70s and 80s that these figures would be highly collectible today?

Kenner reissued the dewback and the landspeeder and others as "collectible reissues" or something like that, so they had an idea way back then that people were collecting these toys.
