I recently got an ESB C-3PO off eBay. It's a 41-back original C-3PO... which is pretty common so I waited until I found a great deal.

Anyway, I took it out and immediately thought "geez... that's one gold C-3PO." Then I sort of put it on my shelf and didn't think about it for a while. I was looking for a good Show & Tell item for the http://PSWCS.com Summer Social on Saturday, and figured my latest 3PO would do. I saw it compared to my other 30 MOC 3POs and it REALLY struck me... "damn... that's one freakishly gold C-3PO!!" At first I thought it was about a Takara-sculpt 3PO gold... because those are a lot deeper of a gold than US Kenner 3POs. But in comparing it's actually more gold than even a Takara! It's very nearly, but not quite, the same hue of gold as the new PlaySkool 2" 3PO that came with the Millenium Falcon playset. And I mean... those things are like honey.

This 3PO is far and away the goldest one in my Vintage collection. So I thought I'd post a pic and get your reactions. I know the factories didn't use a real consistent mix of dyes in their 3PO chrome... so they go from gold to almost silver. But I've never seen one this gold before. I'm now very happy I used that BIN.

Note that I didn't color correct this photo in any way... just shot it & cropped it.

Wow! That's a nice C-3PO. May I ask what the BIN amount was? May I also request images of your 30 (

Hey, that's really strange. Cool!
I wonder if they were made at different factories? Different times? I don't know, but it really looks cool that gold.

I know that there are also a bunch of different shades of gold on the Micro 3PO's. I guess there was a problem making the same shade of gold for every 3po.

I recently bought a small loose collection (about 20 figures). One figure happened to be a "freakishly" gold C-3PO. At first I thought it was a POTF2 figure because it was so gold. Sure enough, it's a vintage. Looks just like the one BillCable posted in his photo. I'll take a look at it in the morning to see what the markings on the leg are. See if they are different than one of my other less gold 3POs.

Bill, it may look freakishly gold, but in my opinion thats how the vintage C-3po should have looked instead of it being released in a dullish gold colour. It looks so much better and is more of a accurate colour for the character.

I'm just wondering if the C-3po's started off like this and over a period of time have all faded to give that dull-gold colour

Hell Bill, That freak is stunning! Seriously, it’s the type of finish I always looked for on the pegs back in the days…makes mine look like a clump of pissed-on snow.

I have 2 3PO's, and one is the removable limbs version.

That one is a lot more "pale" when compared to the original C-3PO I have.

I had one for sale on ebay a few months ago and even talked about how gold it was compared to regular. It was crazy how many bids I got on it, like 10 for a loose figure. It ended at $12.50
laugh.gif
I decided to look through all like 20 other c3po's and couldnt find another one that was that Goldy

Man... I wish I'd seen that and had known at the time that some 3POs were so freakishly gold. I guess I have something new to hunt for... a loose freakishly gold C-3PO!!

My brother has one of those. Since 81 it hasn't even faded compared to my 3PO which is silver now. I think they both came on ESB cards.

Am I correct in saying that a process called electroplating is used to add the metalic effect to 3po's and other such figures?
If so, what factor/s within the process could have contributed towards the production of an overly golden 3po?

Oh and, nice figure by the way

I also have an extremely gold 3PO. I found it in a dealer bin at a toy show in Toronto, Canada. The legs had fused together, and when I pointed it out to the guy, I told him they were glued.

When he couldn't loosen them himself, he gave it to me for $2 Canadian.

It took me about 20 minutes in the car, but I managed to loosen them up. I now have one extremely mint with tight limbs, extremely gold loose 3PO. I'll see if I can take a pic of mine too.

Ian

*EDIT* Never mind. It's darker than most, but not as dark as Bill's. Still super mint though.

Hey Bill,

Sorry for starting the other thread, I couldn't find this one.

Let's lock off the other one and reference it here: Really Golden C3PO

Cheers!
