I'd be curious if they
a) used old transparent / X-ray stock and just painted them, or
b) pressed new models from non-transparent plastic
Almost certainly your option B, based on my experience, at least. The labour and cost involved in collecting, transporting and unboxing existing stock, then preparing and repainting the entire surface of each model as suggested in option A makes it uneconomical. Much simpler to just run more product in non-transparent plastic.
