Luke Skywalker's X-Wing Fighter

If they released the X-Wing in one of the variants that originally came with stickers (Red One, Two, Three... I don't exactly remember where Hasbro started to use prints), I would buy that and modify the old one into a black/white Rogue One version (which I don't expect Hasbro to ever do).

I'm in the minority that thinks they should concentrate on unmade ships with the limited resources available, that's what I loved about the E-Wing. There are so many ships already made that it feels criminal to update the X-Wing now given the minimal reuse they'd get from it. I mean I'm not sure the market is there for $150 repaint for each pilot like there was when it was $30ish, even at $100 and whatever Merrick's cost $104? was a bit high for that old thing. IMO IDK, maybe. Still, I'd much rather have Shin Hati's fighter, Fang Figher and Pirate Snubfighter over an X-Wing redo.

While I’d also like some new vehicles, I don’t mind an occasional repaint, especially if it keeps tooling funds available for new items. I’d really like to see Saw’s partisans X-Wing but packed with both Two Tubes brothers. Then I could buy two, have a pilot for each, and have a set to keep carded. I’d pay $130 each for that. I also wouldn’t mind them repainting some first order X-Wings. There’s a lot of legitimate reuse of those molds much like they used to do with the Jedi starfighters. I don’t thinks it’s necessary to have every member of Red Squadron’s X-Wing though. Those that want it can easily touch up the wings for a custom or maybe include stickers with the variations rather than have separate releases.

I definitely think the X-Wing can do with an overdue brand new screen accurate sculpt, just as Hasbro did with Poe Dameron's Resistance X-Wing in 2019.

It’s strange that the orange Resistance X-Wing is probably the best 3.75” X-Wing ever. That thing just looks and feels amazing. The OT versions, while still very good, are a step down.

It seems sort of a waste updating the X-Wing when the general design is at least a modern upgrade while A, B, and especially Y-Wings all are basically molds from the OT theatrical run. Yes, the T-70 looks a little better still, but I don't have the feeling that they could improve on the X-Wing so much that I would buy all the ones again that I already have.*

The E-Wing was quite a surprise given its short screentime and lack of battle action.

The Pirate Snubfighter would have been a natural selection - except that Hasbro missed the train when the N-1 came out, and Mando was still on TV. It appears that new vehicles are so much of a risk now that we can't get two within a short timeframe, which is a pity as pairing a good guy vehicle with a bad guy vehicle is such an obvious play (and display) pattern. Still, the snubfighter appeared in Skeleton Crew again... okay, that show was mostly ignored by Hasbro...

The Fang Fighter would also have been a good release with all the Mandalorian figures that Hasbro did, and much cheaper than a Gauntlet which requires a HasLab to be done properly.

* Little magnets in the wings to keep them together properly, and an improved mechanism for the wings to open wide enough without stuffing wedges in between, and a better cover for the astromech, and some opening panels... yes, but would it be enough to make a rebuy-worthy difference? Then again, Hasbro re-did the landspeeder and the TIE Advanced although the previous versions were modern molds and not that bad. Go figure.

^ Well, hopefully we'll see more of the Fang Fighter in the M&G movie and that warrants the funding to make it, possibly in 2028ish.
Same for the Pirate Snub Fighter. Maybe they just need a movie to draw awareness and budget. But, given the ST rakes in $1B at the box office and didn't exactly see much of anything new made M&G would have to blow the barn doors off and I kind of feel it's not going to.

I think it should be a testament to just how good Kenner did on those original molds. I know many complain, but after the cockpit upgrades I can't see many improvements to be made outside the Y-Wing, and even that is still acceptable to me. The B-Wing in my opinion is pretty much perfect.

Yeah, I agree with the above. I don’t think they could really improve on the X, A, or B-wings. The Y-wing should be scaled up and improved upon for sure though!

Also agree on the sentiment for the Fang and Snub fighters. They’re comparable to the E-Wing size, so they would have been around the same price point. The Fang would of had the Mando appeal, and the Snub brings the pirate vibes…The packing could have been that one Nikito pirate too. The Chad looking guy. I don’t really care to remember too many names anymore.

Anyway…Missed opportunities for sure.

The x-wing mold is great. They just should have fixed the stupid wing mechanism by now.

True. Though I do believe it could stand a retool to reinforce the wings so they're not as rubbery. Or possibly address other issues that might plague a 30 year old mold. Given how many times they've reissued it they should have raked in a few credits to give it a refit.

Well, I was planning on cancelling this mostly due to space issues.

The EE sent a notice saying shipment was delayed until July. So I thought, "no worries, I have time."

And today I got a shipment notification.

Sigh.

I loved the box art to Biggs’ X-Wing that TRU have back in 2013 I think it was. With the red background. I had the original X-wing back in 1979. Really took me back.

Is it me, or does $99 seem expensive? It's a reissue and doesn't include a figure. We just got the E-Wing for the same price and that included a unique new figure, not to mention it's a brand new design.
