Because of the deeply felt inspirational impact the Original Trilogy films brought to my life, Star Wars memorabilia has been for many years my main collecting focus. Surprisingly I did not start collecting in a consistent manner until 1995 when as a young man, I bought my first POTF2 figure at a local Toys R Us. It was like magic, and from that moment on, I've never stopped collecting.

Through the years my collection has varied greatly. Starting in 1995 and up to sometime in 2010, I collected everything Star Wars that Hasbro produced, and I mean EVERYTHING. The collection grew so big (buying doubles of each figure, beast pack, vehicle, etc) that it became quite overwhelming and my collection room quite crowded. While still collecting Hasbro in 2004, I was introduced to a two year old company named Gentle Giant Ltd. via a Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper disguise Mini Bust I received as credit for my graphic work on Visual Guides for a very popular collectors website at the time. Having seen first hand the Luke Mini Bust, I was very impressed by its quality and my desire for what I was collecting began to take a turn towards these pieces, as a result my interest for action figures shifted a bit, focusing more on high end collecting. A few years later, around 2010, after having picked up a good number of Mini Bust, I sold my complete Hasbro action figure collection and dedicated myself fully to Gentle Giant Mini Busts.

For years I collected everything that Gentle Giant was producing, traveled across the country to pick up convention exclusives, won raffles, paid high prices for pieces I had missed out on, and what have you. OT, PT, EU it did not matter to me; I wanted them all: Maquettes, Statues, Mini Busts, Dioramas, etc. A time came when my GG collection had grown so big, that my Star Wars room became too small to handle it all. It was then I made the decision to only collect merchandise from the Original Trilogy and conceptual designs. I put away all PT pieces, sold all my Expanded Universe Mini Busts and cw animated maquettes collection and never looked back. I felt my decision to re-invent my collecting focus was a wise one, giving me needed display space and more years ahead to continue collecting, After all, the Original Trilogy has always been what I've loved the most about Star Wars, my collecting motivator.

While the years have passed and I have become much more selective these days with my purchases, that desire for Mini Bust collecting is still with me today. My collection room is fully dedicated to A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and McQuarrie collectibles. I've been lucky enough to gather every McQuarrie Mini Bust that Gentle Giant has made available, most OT Mini Busts, and some of their OT statues of my liking as well. Besides Gentle Giant collectibles, I've also collected items made by Attakus, Kotobukiya, Sideshow, Master Replicas, Regal Robot and some fan made weapons, helmets and models.

Every collector knows the road to gather what we like and how we expect every piece to be isn't always a smooth one. Disappointment shows its ugly head every now and then and it could be frustrating. That being said, just like everything in life, perfection depends on our inner expectations and we are not always going to like how some things turn out. I think deception and excitement are all part of the hobby and again, like life itself, there will be ups and downs. I'm definitely glad I have stayed collecting what I like, and by doing so the hobby has allowed me the great opportunity to meet incredible folks from all over the world which like myself, share a passion for the hobby, the movies and a desire to help one another.

As time permits it, I'll be posting updated pictures of my collection room, however, my objective is to mainly dedicate this thread to reviewing the items in my collection using pictures of any given collectible combined with backgrounds to which they relate in the films, something I've been doing for almost two and a half decades. Every now and then I might go off a bit from collecting just to bring up commentary about everyday life issues, jokes , etc. so keep that in mind. Anyway, this will be a very picture-heavy thread. I hope you guys enjoy what you see, and please, feel free to post your comments. As you can see below I have started things up with the visual creator of the Original Trilogy, the talented and creative artist, Ralph McQuarrie. But before that ...

* Here is a diagram of my Star Wars room set-up:

* Below: Not my current set up as far as what's being displayed, however, some pieces are still present, others have been moved around, and others have been added. The panoramic pictures offer a general idea of where and how I showcase my collection. I'll add current pictures of the display very soon.

A few words of advice:

- Treat others with respect, and value their dedication to collecting. It does not matter how big or small, how expensive or inexpensive yours or someone else's collection happens to be. It does not matter if what you collect isn't sometimes as popular as what others will tell you. What truly matters is the happiness what you've chosen to collect brings to you, and the fun of sharing your passion with the rest of the world as one big family. Love the hobby: Collect to Collect

- CONCEPT SERIES MINI BUSTS -
By Gentle Giant Studios

Starting in 2009 at the San Diego Comic Convention in California, and every following year since, Gentle Giant Ltd. has been offering an exclusive mini bust during this event inspired by the concept artwork of world re known conceptual artist Ralph McQuarrie. There has been also one mini bust, the Prototype Boba Fett, as part of this concept series accredited expressly to Joe Johnston's work, the second most important concept artist who worked side by side with McQuarrie, developing the look and feel of the original Star Wars movies.

The characters are cold cast in high quality Polystone, skillfully hand painted, individually numbered, feature a trading card-like Certificate of Authenticity, and sometimes include an extra set of arms and/or heads to recreate two different portraits. Those folks unfamiliar with the concept art created for the films will be surprised by the uniquely different look of these mini busts from the characters seen on screen, a look that some fans feel could sometimes be even better than the final screen-used designs.

This is one of my favorite lines from Gentle Giant for a few reasons, including the fact the line offers pieces of McQuarrie's visualized ideas to be collected in a durable and palpable three dimensional way, where collectors can showcase them in different areas other than a wall, for instance, as it would be the most proper place with one of his drawings. These are a real treat to McQuarrie fans worldwide who appreciate the work of the creative minds employed in the development of the Star Wars Universe, and serve as testament of their evolutionary concept work.

Here is a listing of all the mini busts from this Concept Series released so far, which I've been proud to add and will continue adding to my collection:

- Boba Fett (2009): This piece features 2 different, interchangeable heads and was limited to 2800 units. It is uniquely different from the final film version but was arguably strong inspiration for the look of the Clone Troopers and their armor.

- Darth Vader (2010): This piece features 3 different interchangeable heads and was limited to 2500 units.Though it is quite different from the final film version, it still holds true to the final feel of Vader's timeless helmet and black armor.

- Imperial Snowtrooper (2011): This piece features two interchangeable heads, and was limited to 1,800 units, a thousand less units than the previous two exclusives.

- Imperial Stormtrooper (2012): This piece brings two interchangeable heads, two interchangeable right arms, and two interchangeable left hands; one holding a shield, the other one making a fist. Limited edition of 1,800 units worldwide. Based on original pre-production illustrations from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

- C-3PO (2013): This piece features two interchangeable heads allowing for two different portraits of the character. It was a limited edition of 1,008 units, a drop of 792 units when compared to the previous year exclusive. A fascinating look at McQuarrie’s conceptual development of the beloved protocol droid.

- Luke Skywalker (2014): This is perhaps the most wanted and hated mini bust from the series so far. Due to its very low production numbers of just 500 units worldwide, many collectors that wanted to pair it up to the previously released Darth Vader concept mini bust were left out, and secondary market value was/is so high, many folks were/are simply priced out. Luke's production was indeed a huge drop in units when taking under account the previous Vader mini bust outnumbered it by 2000 units. The Luke mini bust was/is a necessary piece to recreate the famous concept McQuarrie duel alongside Vader. No interchangeable parts on this design, but indeed, a beautifully sculpted piece.

- General McQuarrie (2015): This was the McQuarrie-related exclusive for SDCC that year, and limited to 500 units worldwide. While some consider this release part of the McQuarrie Concept Series, I honestly do not see it that way. It is indeed a portrait of McQuarrie, but not a concept design of his. It is based on McQuarrie's short (cameo) appearance on film in Hoth for The Empire Strikes Back, hence why I'll be showcasing him later on as part of the Hoth characters I've collected.

- Boba Fett Prototype (2015): This is the only mini bust from the Series based on the work of conceptual artist Joe Johnston. The edition size was limited to 750 units worldwide. This all white Boba Fett was a SDCC exclusive. It was a filmed screen test in early 1978 where we saw an early prototype of Boba that featured sleek all white armor over an off-white jump suit. This costume was rumored to be a “Super Stormtrooper”, a kind of elite, special forces Imperial Trooper, better trained and equipped than regular foot soldiers. In the end, this concept was abandoned and Boba Fett became the rogue bounty hunter we all know today.

- Chewbacca (2016): No interchangeable parts were offered with this release. Ralph McQuarrie’s early designs of Chewbacca are uniquely different from that of the final screen version, and some folks did not like this release so much because of the noticeable contrast. The bust was limited to 400 units worldwide, 100 units less than the preceding concept mini busts, but despite its low edition size it had more of a lukewarm reception. Personally, I'm happy it was released.

- Han Solo (2017): No interchangeable parts offered with this release. This was a shared convention exclusive between Celebration VIII in Orlando and SDCC. The mini bust saw an increased edition size of 750 units, 350 more than the previous Chewbacca mini bust. Raffles for the right to purchase the mini busts were held during Celebration, other units were also made available to PG members to preorder online. Despite of it all, after both conventions were held, the mini bust sat for months while offered through GG's website.

- Yoda (2018): No interchangeable parts offered with this release. Consider by many the ugliest of all McQuarrie mini busts, the bust spoke to me as a unique design clearly showing the original idea for Yoda and the talent McQuarrie was. As done the previous year, Yoda was given an edition size of 750 units, a safe amount to produce for everyone that wanted one be able to get to it with ease. The price was $100.00, about $20.00 less than some previous McQuarrie mini busts, due to the small size of the sculpt. Ugliness is a necessary corrective that stimulates a deeper appreciation of beauty. While aesthetically ugly, this Yoda is beautiful to me.

- Sandtrooper (2019): Based off McQuarrie's concept drawing of the Cantina scene where a Sandtrooper is partially seen. The pose is practically identical to the drawing, showing a serious attention by the designers to McQuarrie's visualization. This was the first McQuarrie mini bust released under the ownership of Diamond Select Toys (DST) and great news for McQuarrie collectors seeing DST continued with the McQuarrie mini bust yearly tradition as promised. It also marked the 10th Anniversary of this successful line. The edition size was limited, as it was for the preceding two mini busts, to 750 units. That being said many collectors were rather surprised and frustrated with this release. The sturdy inner Styrofoam clam shell was changed for a weak one, the bottom of the base was missing the usual stamping and replaced by one that looked rather cheap/bootleg-like. Bent rifle barrels abound, broken rifle straps, cheap looking stickers were applied, and sloppy paint jobs on the helmet's bow trim was also found. The worst of all the McQuarrie releases as far as packaging and detailing.

- Boba Fett Version #2 (2020): Based off mainly on concept art by Joe Johnston, the mini bust was actually a mash up between the concept art utilized for the 2009 Boba Fett mini bust release, and another concept art with Fett wearing a sarape (wrongly called "poncho"), a garment piece with no hole for the head unlike a poncho. The bust is not true to specific conceptual work done by Johnston as a result. GG's approach to the artwork presents Fett with a brown and gray poncho instead of the beige and brown sarape from the original design. Being therefore a poncho what GG used, it got placed on Fett through his head, instead of clipped to the front of his armor as in the concept sarape design. Other inaccuracies include the helmet missing the small circle on its lower right side, and the gauntlet on Fett's right arm completely different from the concept drawing. The pose is nice, but for followers of McQuarrie and Johnton's concept art and the niche group of people collecting these mini busts and looking for accuracy, this piece is quite inaccurate. The edition size was limited to 500 units, which made the edition size 250 units smaller than the previous year. The mini bust was sold online only to PGM members first, and to the general public after. It was also the first time ever a SDCC concept mini bust being only sold online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which put an end to conventions for that year.

- Darth Maul (2021): Based off mainly on concept art by Iain McCaig’s concept sketches of the famous Sith Lord, showing Maul in his high-collared outfit. Limited to only 750 pieces. I did not buy this bust thus because it was not part of the original trilogy artists work which is what I collect. I'm adding here to the list just for record keeping

- Starkiller Hero(2022): Based on concept art by Ralph McQuarrie depicting the original, female appearance of the Starkiller Hero which later on became male character Luke Skywalker. Thank God! Here DST destroyed the SDCC tradition of having a concept Mini Bust available for the event, something that had been happening since 2009. While it was a welcome piece by many as the maker went back to McQuarrie's artwork, the mini bust was offered as just a PGM exclusive to be released in 2023

- TIE Fighter pilot (2023): Great looking bust based on McQuarrie's artwork for Galoob Action Fleet Playset: The Death Star Action Figure Set. This one bust in the McQuarrie series of releases was a PGM exclusive and limited to 500 pices. The bust is one solid piece, heavy, properly scaled and painted with several shades of black and gray. Surprisingly no weapon was given to the sculpt.

- McQUARRIE "CONCEPT ARTIST SERIES" -
By Sideshow Collectibles

The "Concept Artist Series" are three statues (so far), in the 1:5 scale produced by Sideshow Collectibles, and honoring the concept designs of the great artist, Ralph McQuarrie.

- Stormtrooper statue: First release in the series. Two versions of the Stormtrooper were offered: regular and exclusive. It is the exclusive version, limited to 750 pieces worldwide, the one I purchased. This one version includes two different helmets and two different hands with weapons: a Lightsaber and a pistol/blaster, thus allowing for two different looks. Paint application is spot on, no color bleeding, details are sharp, magnets for both heads and hands are strong, and the overall sculpting is just fantastic. It easily became one of my favorite pieces in my collection.

- Boba Fett: He was the second released by Sideshow in 2016 as part of their Concept Artist Series based on McQuarrie's designs. The sculpting is quite elaborate sporting sharp details, and the pose is very dynamic. Two different helmets were included with the exclusive version, which is what I purchased, and it was limited to 730 pieces worldwide. Paint application is consistent throughout the entire sculpt with no color bleeding between parts, especially in very small areas of the outfit and helmet where red and blue colors were applied. I particularly like the Slave 1-inspired, massive base Fett is standing on; it is full of intricate details, and weathering effects.

- Darth Vader: Ralph McQuarrie will forever be remembered, without a doubt, as the great conceptual artist who gave us the design and visual representation of many Star Wars places and characters, including the menacing look of Darth Vader. As part of their "Concept Series", Sideshow Collectibles paid homage to this great artist, and to the most recognizable villain of the big screen releasing this magnificent statue in early 2017, release #3 in the series, and limited to 750 pieces worldwide. The exclusive version, the one I purchased, features two alternate concept helmets thus allowing for two different looks. The overall appearance of the piece is quite imposing, standing at almost two feet tall and packed with great details. My favorite Darth Vader sculpt in my collection without any hesitation.

- CONCEPT McQUARRIE DUEL -
By Kotobukiya

In July of 2007 as part of a year filled with incredible collectibles celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars, Kotobukiya released their first ever concept kit inspired on re known Star Wars artist Ralph McQuarrie's impressive 1975 illustration of the powerful duel between "Deak Starkiller" and Darth Vader. This release also represented the first ever 3-D vinyl production of a McQuarrie's conceptual design for the 1/7 scale.

The set clearly attracted a wide range of collectors, having more than just a few people interested in buying it. Even those that many times before had turned their heads away from the great product Koto puts out, were easily seduced by the magnificently accurate design and fantastic attention to detail the kit offered. It is, indeed, a perfect depiction of the classic concept design by the masterful artisans at Kotobukiya.

Those less familiar with early Ralph McQuarrie's concept drawings will notice the outfits of the characters differ noticeably from the final versions on the films. For instance, Vader's mask has a more lupine look to it, and his ignited lightsaber is blue, not red. On the other hand, Luke gets portrayed wearing a breath mask, oxygen tank and a red and purple outfit; his ignited lightsaber has a yellow glow to it, not blue. There was a reason for the breath masks on the characters...

According to early version's of the movie script the Rebel Starship Luke was in was attacked by Imperial forces and its hull was breached. The pressurized atmosphere in the ship was released into space forcing both, Luke and Vader, to wear breath masks during a duel sequence. After some rewrites, the sequence was delayed until The Empire Strikes Back. By then, Luke no longer needed a mask but the Vader character kept his as it perfectly captured his malevolent presence.

The box for the set was designed in the black and gray colors used as part of the 30th Anniversary Celebration high -end collectible presentation packaging. There were no windows on it, something we had already noticed on the preceding Yoda's Spirit of the Force box for the Celebration events, and which departed from the commonly seen window boxes previously used by the maker. The overall size of the set is an impressive 17" high x 28" wide x 12" deep. Printed on the back of the box is the number of total units as well as the specific limited amounts to be distributed worldwide, being the United States the one country to receive the most:

Asia Pacific: 840 units
Europe: 1250
Japan: 1977 units
North America: 3030 units

Out of the two figures, Luke was easily the most eye-catching one. In part this was due to the fact the concept design completely departs from the image of the Jedi we are used to see, making him appear as a new character in a superb action pose yielding his ignited lightsaber and dodging Vader's attack. The fact that Luke's breathing mask could be pull down, allowing for his face to be exposed, gave the kit some play-ability and a change of looks as well. The goggles on the mask were made of a purple plastic offering enough transparency to let one see Luke's piercing blue eyes.

Vader's pose was well captured, overpowering Luke in what seems to be a death defying attack while holding in his hand his ignited blue lightsaber. Vader's mask was fantastically crafted with every single detail seen in the McQuarrie illustration. The black outfit and helmet were accentuated following McQuarrie's view to the bone using blue highlights to enhance the details.

When it is time to display the set, the collector has the choice on how to do so. Both figures could be displayed together, locked in the iconic pose made famous by the classic illustration, or separately. Of course, having them displayed together makes for a fantastic centerpiece, a focal point on anyone's collection. All for all the set, just like the drawing it was based on, has become an instant classic every McQuarrie fan should own.

- 40th ANNIVERSARY OF STAR WARS: .45 SCALE McQUARRIE DARTH VADER HELMET -
By Wonder Garage

To Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars in 2017, the Malaysian builder WonderGarage created this fantastic .45 scale Ralph McQuarrie Concept Darth Vader mini helmet, based on the cover art for the novelization of Star Wars that was published by Ballantine/Del Rey in the fall of 1976, prior to the film's release.

Painted in a reflective bronze/metallic finish, the helmet's lines and detailing stand out rather well. While some minute details are not present, for the most part it is a great looking piece and destined to be a very rare one. Only 40 pieces worldwide were created. To add on to its classy look, the helmet is set on a heavy, polished, black granite base. There's an engraved description plaque attached to the front of the base, and another smaller plaque on the back showing the edition size and the number of the sample you have received. The helmet comes with a large, nicely rendered COA, showing the number of your sample, and adds a few words honoring the great artist. This was a unique opportunity to get a McQuarrie Darth Vader helmet in this scale. As a final note, the helmet adds significant visual impact to the McQuarrie mini busts Gentle Giant has been offering, as well as the Sideshow Collectibles McQuarrie "Concept Series" statues.

- McQUARRIE DECK OF CARDS. CELEBRATION VIII -
By Cartamundi

Only sold at Cartamundi's booth #2922 during Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017, and limited to just 150 sets, this is one of the hardest Star Wars playing card decks to come about, and a real treat to McQuarrie collectors anywhere.

The full decks (52 cards) were sold for $65.00 each, and packed within an exquisitely engraved custom wooden case. On one side of the case there's the engraved image of Deak Starkiller, the conceptual drawing by Ralph McQuarrie, as well as the numbered sample and edition size of the deck. There is also an opening for the custom/display case to be hung on a wall. On the opposite side there's a cut out window surrounded by the Star Wars logo, showing the card deck. The window is covered by a clear, thick acrylic sheet that protects the cards, and it slides out to release them, should you have the need to look at them or play with them. As expected, each card in the deck features unique Star Wars conceptual artwork by Ralph McQuarrie.

Cartamundi also offered as a Celebration exclusive, free of charge, 4 individual Ralph McQuarrie playing cards, one for each day of the event. These 4 cards were made in the same style as the card deck, thus they can be incorporated to it as replacements to others.

STAR WARS ART: RALPH McQuarrie
By Abrams Books

As the most iconic artist in the Star Wars project, Ralph McQuarrie worked on it from the very start and helped establish the saga's visual aesthetic, and its inimitable look and feel. McQuarrie's designs of characters and environments would shape much of what has become iconic about the series.

Beyond designing Darth Vader, C-3PO, and R2-D2, McQuarrie produced hundreds of pieces of Star Wars artwork, including conceptual paintings, costume designs, storyboards, and matte paintings, as well as posters, book covers, album covers, and annual Christmas cards for Lucasfilm. McQuarrie fans will find in these books the most definitive collection of the artist's Star Wars work ever put together, including hundreds of never-before-seen illustrations. The two volumes included in this set also contain rare unpublished interviews, and recollections from McQuarrie's colleagues and friends about his art.

That being said, the substance of the books is therefore in the images themselves, so gloriously rendered. Ralph had a habit of painting over previous renderings whenever he wanted to re-use a foreground or a group of people, so the version most people are aware of is often only the final one. For many paintings, these books show the different versions, resulting in some revelations which will surprise the reader.

Star Wars Art: Ralph McQuarrie, through its 800 pages, is a tribute to cinema's most beloved and influential concept artist. While the cost of the book set is not on the cheap side, if you are a McQuarrie fan, you won't regret making this purchase.

ARCHIVE COLLECTION: JABBA THE HUTT CONCEPT MAQUETTE REPLICA
By Regal Robot

I'm drifting away a little from the McQuarrie focus of this post while still staying true to Concept Designs for the Original Trilogy, in order to add this great piece to the pictorials, and a bit of history about it...

Phil Tippett was born born September 27, 1951 in Berkeley, California. When he was seven, Tippett saw Ray Harryhausen's special effects classic, "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad", and his life's direction was set. He completed a bachelor's degree in art at the University of California, Irvine, and went to work at the animation studio Cascade Pictures in Los Angeles. His roots in stop motion, modeling and practical effects and his ability to use this foundation in conjunction with developing technologies has made him one of a handful of artists whose careers have spanned the transition of visual effects from largely practical to digital. His varied career in visual effects includes two Academy Awards; and six nominations, one BAFTA award and four nominations, two Emmys and the advent of modern digital effects in motion picture.

"We had all longed to work on movies with special effects but our skill sets were locked out of the Studios, by the unions. In fact a number of the studios’ “Special Effects” departments had been already shut down by the early 1970’s.Then George Lucas materialized and hired us (outside of the Union jurisdiction) for the first Star Wars. With the film’s enormous success, Lucas set up LucasFilm and ILM in Marin County and we all relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area to work on Empire, Jedi, Indiana Jones, and Dragonslayer"- Phil Tippett

Phil had a hand in many aspects of the Star Wars films, including modeling and casting alien heads and limbs for the busy Cantina scene in the first film. By 1978, Phil lead the animation team at Industrial Light and Magic that would launch his career, bringing life to the sinister Imperial Walkers and the Tauntaun for The Empire Strikes Back. In 1983, as head of the ILM creature shop, he began work on Return of the Jedi, designing Jabba The Hut and the Rancor as well as animating the two-legged Walker and later winning the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

"Most of us were in our mid twenties and thirties and these were the movies we would cut out teeth on.
This was really a dream-come-true.What we brought to the table was a solid knowledge of the history and craft of photographic and practical effects. All spaceships and creatures were models or rubber puppets, all shot on 35mm film and either shot as full miniatures or optically composited"-
Phil Tippett

This Jabba the Hutt” maquette for Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi was designed and sculpted by Phil Tippett, Measuring approximately 9" x 5". x 5", the maquette was made of resin and hand-painted to detail. It was originally sculpted out of sculpey and then molded to create the painted master (below) to present to George Lucas for design approval. This is the only example of its kind in existence. The original sculpture was destroyed in the molding process and the mold, itself, has long since deteriorated.

Ralph McQuarrie, Joe Johnston, Nilo Rodis-Jamero and I all contributed designs for the Jabba character, and George eventually picked the design that I came up with" - Phil Tippett

This replica of the maquette by Regal Robot, faithfully recreates in size and style the original one adding a clean look to it, as if had just left Tippett's creative work table

ARCHIVE COLLECTION: MAX REBO CONCEPT MAQUETTE REPLICA
By Regal Robot

"I thought it would be funny to have a musical number in the middle of a Star Wars film." - George Lucas

Continuing with Phil Tippett's masterful zoological designs and as part of this "concept works" section of the thread, here is another addition to my collection from Regal Robot's "Archive Collection" line of maquettes. It is an accurate reproduction a Lucas' idea executed by Tippett in his original design for Return of the Jedi. Monster #21 was the name used for Max at the time because of the round sticker on the base with said number on it tagging the piece. The sculpture was also nicknamed "Red Ball Jet" by Joe Johnston, as Tippett himself has mentioned in several occassions. With an official name not yet given to the character and because of a few little red rounded shapes at the base of the sculpture, Johnston associated these for some reason to old sneakers called Red Ball Jet Sneakers. As a result, it gave Rebo’s device its name and clearly settled any questions over the character’s intended body.

The Ortolan musician and his legendary band create some of the most recognizable aliens in the Original Trilogy but, as it is known around collectors circles, there was much debate about the blue-skinned bandleader and his first action figure misaligning his anatomy with two extra appendages which the original design did not offer. Wearing what appeared to be a diaper, standing on two legs and sporting arms is how Kenner perceived in 1983 the body of Max Rebo. They assumed Max was sitting at the center of his keyboard and the legs just couldn't be seen. Since then, the expanded universe and subsequent action figures have carried out the idea that Max has humanoid legs. However, it should be noted that production sketches and the construction of the costume itself indicate that the sole two limbs Max uses to play the keyboard are legs rather than arms. Inspecting the original design closer, the two appendages end not at the shoulders, but rather at the large muscles resting on Max’s base that, very much, look like buttocks. So in all, Max plays music with his legs and toes.

GENTLEGIANTMINIBUSTEPIV00965A50N.jpg

Max was brought to life in the film by Simon Williamson (who also puppeteered Nien Nunb) as the single person inside a very tight fitting Ortolan costume he wore from the waist up where his arms were inside the puppets legs to operate them. Unable to see, instructions were given to Williamson with the use of an earphone while two other puppeteers helped him with the character's head and limbs movement. Max was intended to be perched on a cushion at the same height as the organ's keys, and using his sole two limbs to play the keys. But, It is perhaps fair to say that the fact that when someone is in the costume the legs can’t help but change shape to resemble arms, that Kenner assumed the limbs were arms and translated that into the action figure's anatomy.

Regal Robot's Max Rebo concept maquette is a magnificent recreation of the original sculpture thanks to hands-on access to the original artifact, high resolution 3D scanning and a very talented group of artists that beautifully painted it and put it together in their New York studio, thus being another home-made product which is a plus in my book. The maquette was first made available as an exclusive offer of only 83 pieces for "Star Wars Celebration 2022" attendees in Anaheim, California and included a signed metal plaque by its original designer, Phil Tippett. The exact same maquette was then offered in June of the same year to the general public as a limited-number-edition of 250 pieces minus the signed plaque but accompanied instead by a numbered plaque. This numbered edition is the one in the pictures below.

Specifics:

ARCHIVE COLLECTION: WEEQUAY (QUEEQUEG) CONCEPT MAQUETTE REPLICA
by: Regal Robot

" Watching movies as a kid, I was always thrilled by the photography combined with great locations and action. I liked art, magic and puppets, so clever effects involving trick photography, miniatures, stunts and stop motion fascinated me" - Ken Ralston

Continuing with the concept maquettes found in the Lucasfilm archives that were presented to George Lucas as points of reference to build a full size creature for Return of the Jedi, Regal Robot offered the stoic and haunting Weequay maquette as part of their Archive Collection of 1:1 scale replicas; faithful reproductions directly scanned from the original work of their creators. The Weequay maquette was limited to 100 signed pieces and 150 numbered pieces. The signed plaques were autographed by visual effects supervisor and sculptor Ken Ralston, 5-time Oscar Award winner ( Special Achievement Oscar for the visual effects for ROTJ), an icon in today's special effects for the movie industry.

Some of the artists working the creature shop for ROTJ were doing all kinds of jobs before they even got to ILM. Ken Ralston for instance was always sculpting stuff for his own fun, even sculpting himself in clay or sometimes armature casting. Ralston began his career at the commercial animation and visual effects company, Cascade Pictures in Hollywood, where he worked on over 150 advertising campaigns in the early 1970s. In 1976, he was hired at Industrial Light & Magic by Dennis Muren to help George Lucas create the effects for Star Wars. He remained at ILM for 20 years and has been a leading member of a generation of special-effects wizards who came of age during the seventies and swept the eighties film world.

Ralston was working as co-effects supervisor when the ILM crew was asked to put their hands in it and come up with ideas that would show their own individuality creating alien characters for ROTJ, thus drawings were made and a number of maquettes were created. Ralston worked on his maquette using sculpey, cooked it and painted it with acrylic paint himself, adding fake hair, hair ornaments and a necklace as well. He was trying to come up with an idea for Weequay based on the fact this was going to be an apperceptive being, supposed to be out with Jabba under the desert sun, sunburst, riding in a barge and/or desert skiff. As it happens sometimes when creativity knocks, he started flashing on the old 1956 "Moby ****" film based on Herman Melville's book, specifically the Polynesian

1677207683871.png
No one really knew what George was going to pick out from so much stuff that was being presented to him by the crew, but luckily for Ken (among several others that he had done) Weequay was picked by Lucas and made it into the movie, being nicknamed Queequeg during the production process. That being said, the transfer from Ken's design to the actual heads used on the film left out the pointy elf-like ears, puncture wounds on each side of the neck, and the chain necklace of the original. As a side note, Weequay brandishes a weapon called a vibro-ax and was actually given several different costume choices by costume designer Nilo Rodis-Jamero. To keep the Weequay heads on properly while shooting intense action sequences, actors wore a harness that came down around their chest and looped under their arms. Their extremely warm latex heads were kept on with velcro closure and could be easily removed to get some air in the 100 degree heat of Buttercup Valley.

ARCHIVE COLLECTION: SAELT-MARAE (YAKFACE) CONCEPT MAQUETTE REPLICA
By Regal Robot

" I just made him up and started pushing the Sculpey around" - Judy Elkins about creating Yakface
As a bachelor of Fine Art graduate from the University of Texas in Austin, Judy started her professional career at ILM and was first credited for her role as an animator for Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981. Soon after, she worked on Dragonslayer in the same year, then The Wrath of Khan and Poltergeist followed suit the subsequent year. In 1983, she was a key sculptor on Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi where she honed her skills by diversifying into the field of motion control photography.

At ILM, during production of films, the creature effects team will often dream up new and fantastic aliens and beasts by creating small scale sculptures called maquettes.and showcase their creations for approval this way. From this gathering of maquettes, the film's director and producer would choose what characters were going to be brought to life for the film, either as costumes or puppets, as well as what roles they were going to play in the story. Judy Elkins was pulled into the creature shop (for which Phil Tippett was in charge), after having worked as a Rotoscope artist at Lucasfilm and ILM. Judy's presence in the creature shop involved worked not only in the full size creatures for Return of the Jedi, but also in part of the early development creating maquettes to work through what the aliens of Jabba the Hutt's palace might look like. To this effect, some of the characters she worked on became iconic, including Yakface who achieved additional fame as being one of the rarest of the original Kenner action figures from that time. (more on the figures later)

Yakface was the result of Judy Elkins' mind, her own creation which she came up with, not from a previous sketch, but rather she molded him together by thinking about different animals. While pushing the Sculpey around, what took shape was a sort of snout, then a neck leading to a place for a mouth and eyes. While having a certain camel-like appearance, Judy pinched up the snout and wrinkled it to make it look more alien-like. After having a shape that she was satisfied with, the sculpt was baked in an oven and taken out. She realized the head needed some hair and would give her design a friendly vibe.. Knowing it would be a background character, she understood it would need to have large features such as big eyes, somebody that could be noticed in the back, bright with squiddy eyes so as when the camera would pan, it could show up. The sculpt was approved to become the Saelt Marae (aka Yak Face) character, one of the denizens of Jabba the Huttt's palace in Tatooine and translated to a full scale, gigantic head where at least 100 pounds of clay were needed for its development. This was used as a mold to cast it in silicone. The mask that came out of it was so big, it required holes on the neck for mime artist/puppeteer Sean Crawford to see through, thus the actual face of the mask was above the actor's head and the neck was in front of his eyes. The eye holes were sort of disguised using cheesecloth which was also painted to match the neck area. The hollow mask was filled with foam and the excess was removed to fit in the head of the puppeteer. There was no core mold for the head of the actor, thus the need amount of foam was trimmed away by using an electric knife. Judy was also responsible for painting and punching horse hair onto the mask.

yakface00011.jpg

The action figure of Yakface was released by Kenner in 1985, though it was never distributed in the United States. The figure was only offered on a Canadian POTF card and a European Tri-Logo cardCanadian POTF card or a European Tri-logo card. The Canadian carded figure is the only one that comes with the skiff guard staff accessory. Because of this, and because of the overall rarity of the figure, the vintage Yak Face is a highly sought-after collector's piece, and mint figures have sold for thousands of dollars. One can say Judy's character "hands on deck"creation not only made it into the movie but also became one of the most sought after vintage action figures, and forty years later an exact replica of Judy's work is now part of Regal Robot's laser scanned archive collection joining other fantastic sculptors of the Original Trilogy for collectors to treasure and enjoy

ARCHIVE COLLECTION: SAELT-MARAE (YAKFACE) CONCEPT MAQUETTE REPLICA

" Nien Nunb was just an idea, just another monster when I was making him" - Dave Carson
The character's creation:

The character of Nien Nunb was created by director Richard Marquand and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan based on concepts originally developed by George Lucas. In an interview, Richard Marquand described Nien Nunb as, " a Muppet, a guy under the deck who does his thing. He's got some dialogue to do. He's got this funny, twitchy face. He's a terrific character in my mind".

Meet the Sculptor:

Dave Carson is an extremely talented man of many different roles thorughout the Star Wars saga: whether working as a storyboard artist, a Creature Shop sculptor, or visual effects supervisor, his work left a lasting mark on so many of the movies we love. From his start on The Empire Strikes Back to bringing the Gamorrean Guards and Nien Numb to life in Return of the Jedi, he also has some incredible stories from his work on Star Tours and the Special Editions.

Carson was part of the creature shop crew at ILM for Return of the Jedi, where he worked extensively on the development of maquettes to help design the aliens for the film. While many were for the court of Jabba the Hutt, this alien, known only as ‘Number 9’ on creature packaging at the time, would become Nien Nunb, a character who would endure even decades later in the sequel trilogy. Dave had this to say about sculpting the maquette of the character:

"... I actually just started pushing clay around and nothing was coming out, so I turned it upside down and I thought oh that's interesting. I actually then finished it, so that was definitely designing as I sculpted. Nien Nunb was just an idea, just another monster when I was making him. George would come in once a week to the Creature Shop and he would put up a red sticker on the sculpture that he liked, and the rest of them, you know, were rejects and we would do the same thing the following week. And so that's how he approved my sculpt. It was a surprise to me that he turned out to the be chosen as the co-pilot for the Millennium Falcon. What I remember the most about sculpting him were his nostrils which I thought "what if they keep going?" - and they actually turned into these flaps, and that was something I like about him which I thought was of neat."

Carson also sculped the full scale Nien Nunb which was a straight forward interpretation of the maquette, and had this to say:

"Once we finished with the maquettes and we started making the full size masks, it was the first time I got to use wet clay. The full-size sculpt was basically a blow up the maquette. Having had the maquette approved by George you wanted to be faithful to that first design and transfr it to the full-size sculpt assuming that's what he wanted. The man was the one cutting your check so , you wanted to remain loyal to the design as he approved it'

Being brought to life:

Nien Nunb was brought to life by both a puppeteer and as a costumed-actor during the 1983 film Return of the Jedi. Initially, he was just to appear in the briefing room scenes, and the Endor celebration. For these appearances he was portrayed by stuntman Richard Bonehill in costume and mask. However, Nunb was later chosen by George Lucas to appear in the Millennium Falcon as Lando Calrissian's co-pilot. Since the character now had dialogue, it was decided that the mask would be reworked into a puppet, with mechanisms to allow for moving lips and eyes. For these scenes, in the cockpit, the role was handed over to puppeteer Mike Quinn. Quinn returned to the role for The Force Awakens

" I just made him up and started pushing the Sculpey around" - Jeanne Lauren about creating McCool
Tiny but cool-looking, what could it be but none other than the one, the myth, the legend: Droopy! That's right, Droopy McCool has joined other members of the Archive Collection on my shelf. He is number 52 out of 200 made, and looking like a fluffy, naked marshmallow. The signature plaque he comes with has been signed by Jeanne Lauren, creature technician who was part of the creature shop at ILM for Return of the Jedi, where she worked extensively on the life-sized costumes and puppets for the aliens in the court and sail barge of Jabba the Hutt, including of course, Droopy ...

ARCHIVE COLLECTION: ORRIMAARKO (PRUNE FACE) CONCEPT MAQUETTE REPLICA
By Regal Robot

" I just made him up and started pushing the Sculpey around" - Tom St. Amand about creating Prune Face
From Regal Robot and as part of their Archive Collection comes the 4 1/2" maquette of a certain Dressellian who served the Alliance to restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire. Originally called Prune Face and released as part of the Kenner vintage line of figures under the same name because of his look and very obscure presence, the character was also thought to be another member of Jabba's gang. It wasn't until the 1995 West End Games sourcebook Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens -Enemies and Allies, written by Pablo Hidalgo, that it was established Prune Faces were a race called Dressellians, and named the Kenner-produced character "Orrimaarko." His name is a tuckerism of Orrin Marko, a friend of Pablo Hidalgo. The book also made clear the character was a member of the Rebel Alliance and not a member of Jabba's gang as most people thought it was.

Prune Faces can be briefly seen in the conference room in Return of the Jedi where the rebels ploy their attack on the Death Star, and during the Ewok Celebration at the end of the film, where one Dressellian is dancing in the background next to a fire. Two of them as well can be found in the background for the same Celebration scene in the Special Edition.

As far as the maquette itself, there's very little to say other than to praise Regal Robot again for making another fantastic replica of the original maquette, a replica that comes graciously accompanied by Prune Face's creator Tom St. Amand signed plaque.

Because of the profound inspirational impact the films brought to my life, Star Wars memorabilia has always been my main collecting focus since 1995 when, as an adult, I bought my first POTF2 figure at a local Toys R Us.

Through the years my collection has varied greatly. From 1995 up to 2010, I collected everything Star Wars that Hasbro produced, but sold that collection in order to dedicate myself fully to high end collecting. It was back in 2004, after receiving the mini bust of Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper disguise as credit for my graphic work on Visual Guides for another collectors website that the Gentle Giant bug bit me. From that moment on mini bust collecting became an addiction, a sickness that is still part of me today. While the road as a collector hasn't always been a smooth one, and disappointment has been part of it every now and then, I'm glad I have kept collecting what I like, and will continue to do so.

For years I collected everything that Gentle Giant was producing at the time: Maquettes, Statues, Mini Busts and Dioramas from all films. A time came when the collection had grown so big and the walls of my Star Wars room were becoming so small, that I made the decision of only collect merchandise from the Original Trilogy, and put away everything else. After all, those first three films have always been the ones I've loved the most. My collection room is now fully dedicated to A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and McQuarrie collectibles. I've been lucky enough to gather every OT and McQuarrie mini busts Gentle Giant has made available, as well as some of their OT statues that I've found appealing to me. Besides Gentle Giant product, I also collect items produced by Attakus, Kotobukiya, Sideshow, Master Replicas and some fan made weapons and helmets.

In the days to come and as time permits it, I'll be posting pictures of my collection room here as visual reference, however, my objective is to mainly dedicate this thread to reviewing the items in my collection through pictures, which is something I've been doing for almost two decades. This will be a very picture -heavy thread. I hope you guys enjoy what you see, and please, feel free to post your comments.

UhNDoA.jpg

Well said. Looking forward to seeing your collection.

LIKED and Subscribed!!!
Been waiting for a photo thread of your collection for a long time Julian. I've seen a few shots elsewhere and can't wait to see more. For those who have not seen any of LS's collection photos before, you are in for a treat!

Really looking forward to this as well! I have seen bits and pieces of the maestro's collection but never the whole complete room. I have even told Julian before my favorite part of this site is looking at others collections, I actually think I enjoy that almost more than collecting myself :).

Thanks, guys. As always, I appreciate your kind comments and feel glad to share the passion of the hobby with you all. I'll wait until I have received the three mini busts I have on the way to me right now from GG (Vader Emperor's Wrath, Lobot and Obi-Wan) before I take pictures of my collection room. In the meantime I'll start adding picture reviews of some of the items related to Bespin I have gathered through the years to coincede with the arrival of the Lobot mini bust, and upcoming Bespin Leia. My intention is to categorize statues , mini busts, etc. by planet and/or environment whenever possible, describing as well some of the events related to those places.

Great start! I forgot how awesome that Bespin Boba with Han piece is. That scene in ESB to me cements what a bad*** Boba is, because he intentionally and arrogantly parades his prize in the open to bait Luke out. A piece I kick myself for passing on for sure.

Nice pics Julian. I have that Boba/ST/Han statue too and there are two things that bug me about it. 1. Han is not quite level to the ground on mine. 2. Boba's view/range finder is way too long. Looks like those issues aren't really bad on yours at all. Other than those nitpicks, it's a great statue!

Great pictures as always Julian, always look forward to your presentations when we get new pieces..., I especially like to see your look backs at older items on Facebook..., Bespin Han is one of those few mini-busts I decided I didn’t want/need but on reflection I should’ve got him as I’m now left with a gap, I keep an eye out on eBay for a reasonably priced one but as yet no joy, got to have something to still be looking for though or it gets a bit boring just waiting for newer items to be announced only (collecting wise).

System override. Mayday! Mayday! (Double post. Sorry)

Thanks, Trav! It is a great piece, in my opinion. One of my favorite dioramas in my collection and as you said, an awesome scene from Empire.

Thanks, Ben. I really like this diorama, and wish GG would have made more of them, but for some reason that line was stopped. The one issue I have with this particular piece is that the weight of the Carbonite block makes Boba Fett lean slightly towards that side, as you said, making Han not be fully level with the base floor. I believe it has to do with the hole on the base that supports the peg foot on Fett being too big and thus making Fett and therefore Han, lean to the side when the Carbonite block is attached. Other than that it is a very nice piece. Funny story about that piece ...

I bought it at Celebration VI in Orlando from a vendor, in brand new condition on my last day there. He opened the box for me so I could see there was nothing wrong with it, and left the convention that day with the statue. When I got back to the hotel I took it out of the box again and noticed the COA I had seen before was missing. We were staying at the Rosen with the bridge that connects to the convention center, so the next day my wife and I walked back to the building thinking one of us would have to buy a ticket to get back in. Fortunately after explaining to one staff members driving a golf cart what'd happened he said " You don't need a ticket"- and drove us back in. The minute I got back to the vendor's booth, he recognized me from the previous day and said: "I knew you'd be coming back for it" as he handed me the COA. Luckily he had found the COA on the floor and was holding it for me.

Thanks, Kev. Unfortunately Facebook has, once again, locked me out of my account for no reason. This is the fourth time in less than a year they do this, so I'm pretty much giving up on them. God knows when they will let me use my account again, as it has taken weeks before. Once again they requested my photo ID and to explain to them why I think suspending my account was wrong. Well, I wrote to them: Other than posting pictures of Star Wars collectibles and talking about Star Wars, there's nothing else I do with your stupid site. Apparently those are grounds to suspend my account, while political haters and what have you are free to run amok everyday posting divisive comments.

The Bespin Han mini bust I bought it from the secondary market. I never liked the fact his eyes were/are painted blue, unlike the actor's, nor the Italian nose he was given (sorry Mom). When GG first offered him, I passed on him, but later on I figured if one day they would do more Bespin characters I was going to need this Han. So, I looked around for a bit and got mine for $90.00 which I thought it was af air price at the time. Now I could at him on the shelf and I could almost hear him say : "When is Leia getting here? " :)

Actually, my Hansicle has a slightly different lean issue than yours...his head is higher from the ground than his feet. GG sure gets creative in how they can screw up an otherwise great piece, don't they? ;-) Actually the lean is minor and I really do think very highly of this statue.

That was very cool of that vendor to save the COA for you...most would have thrown it out and then pretended like they knew nothing about it when you showed up the next day.

That's a sweet piece! You can almost hear the metal clang coming up when Vader angrily cuts through the pole before cutting through Luke LOL.

It's a cool diorama reflecting an iconic moment in the film. Although made in the 1/9 scale, it is quite large at almost about 18" in length x 14" wide. The only issue I have with it is the many pieces making up the railing that need to be attached to the base. While the railing poles (26) are all made out of metal, the top pieces that attach to them (12) are made of very fragile Polystone, instead of plastic. The insertion holes under these top pieces don't always line up with the railing poles, and can't be forced to do so or they will crack, as it happened to me with one of them.

*Added pictures now of the three McQuarrie statues by Sideshow Collectibles from their Concept Artist Series:

Julian, as you know one of my absolute favorite collections / pieces are the McQuarrie ones. EXCELLENT job giving them their due and properly showing these beautiful pieces off the way they deserve to be.

Thanks, Travis. I appreciate your kind words. As you know I'm a big fan of McQuarrie's work, too. I hope GG continues making McQuarrie mini busts for a while. There are still a few I want to see made based on his designs. And as far as the statues, I hope SS makes the one that's missing from that set: Luke.

I still have a couple more McQuarrie related items to add to the McQuarrie section which I'll be doing soon. I wish I could find someone that would custom make the McQuarrie Vader and Luke lightsabers (1:1 scale). That would complete the circle for me. I did find a guy on Ebay selling them not too long ago , but he wanted over $1,000.00 for each, so I had to pass. It was too much for what I was willing to pay.

* Added to the first page picture reviews of: McQuarrie's Darth Vader vs Luke duel by Kotobukiya, Wonder Garage .45 scale McQuarrie Darth Vader helmet and Celebration VIII exclusive McQuarrie deck of cards by Cartumundi. Click on the McQuarrie banner to be taken to the first page, if you want to read about them and see more pictures. :)

The Wonder Garage Vader is amazing, and only 40 pieces?? Wow. That's so awesome, I'm sure you could get a pretty penny for that now.

I agree SS need to do another lineup of McQuarrie figures. I have 3 easy ones...Starkiller, Snowtrooper and R2 and C-3PO 2-piece. Not hard to see those would all sell well.

Always liked the Koto piece, just for reasons unknown never bought them.

Lastly, I have been seeing the Exclusive Fett McQ SS statue going for insanely low prices as of late. Being I own the regular version I have actually considered getting the exclusive Fett too and displaying him with my XM and Legends in 3D bust to have a Boba table. I know owning two of the same statue sounds insane but I like the three McQuarries together but wouldn't mind the Exclusive Boba with the other Bobas. Sorry to go off topic but you got me excited seeing these exclusives again!

- I'm sure I could if I were to sell it, but that's one thing I'll never do. These McQuarrie inspired pieces are here to stay. Wonder Garage has done some .45 scale helmets before (Tie Pilot, Scout Trooper, At-At Driver), but the edition sizes were bigger. It took three weeks for the helmet to arrive but he packed it pretty well.

- It 'd be great if Sideshow continues with the line, but at this point I don't think that'll be the case. They haven't mentioned anything about it since Vader was released, thus I'm thinking the three statues released might be it. But who knows. Maybe they'll surprise us with an announcement during SDCC.

- I like the duality of the Fett statue, and being able to switch helmets and have two looks for Fett. It's like having two statues in one. I say, if you like the exclusive one and is going for a good price, pick it up! :)

I know you would never sell a McQuarrie piece :), I just had to say how impressive only 40 being made was. I might try to find their Scout and AT AT Drivers someday.

I ended up getting the Exclusive Fett. I didn't need it, probably shouldn't have done it but the price was too good to pass up.

Haha! I knew you knew that. I was just reaffirming to myself that would never happen. I wanna be buried with my Mythos Obi-Wan and some of these McQuarries. :)

* Congrats on picking up the exclusive. You can always sell the regular version and get some money back or just display it as a stand alone piece somewhere.:D

I've just opened the Obi-Wan PGM gift mini bust and I'm extremely pleased with it. Proper likeness, great texture and sheen of the cloak's fabric, the saber blade light is strong. Love this piece! This is a shot of how he looks in the dark with the light up saber turned on. I just added a background and a bit of fog for more effect.

I was confused as to why they gave him some stubble but thankfully I still like the bust very much, Obi Wan is my favourite of the 3 that arrived (the other being Vader) but all were very welcome additions to my collection. :)

Yeah. I welcome all three to my collection, despite the stubble on Lobot's face and the lack of light on Vader's head to see the skull under the helmet. Looking forward now to adding ugly McYoda to the collection next.

* Well, off to work I go. later.

Someone pointed out he looks like Yogurt from Spaceballs & the more I look at McYoda the more I can see Mel Brooks, ugly or not I really like the mini-bust, it looks great. :)

I have Star Wars room envy...

i love over the way you’ve displayed your collection. It looks really classy and certainly is displayed in the best light.

My friends who are not Star Wars fans can certainly appreciate the items when they are well displayed.

Adding pictures of my most recent acquisition: Darth Vader Emperor's Wrath mini bust. Love this Vader and would had loved it even more if skull could have gotten a little more light, yet it is a welcoming piece to my collection:

Since Facebook has locked me out of my account yet again, I'll be transferring everything to this here. Not sure how great Facebook has been to others, but it has been a whole lot of crap to me.

S
umming things up, and as most Star Wars fans know, Hoth is the sixth planet in the remote system of the same name, and was the site of the Rebel Alliance's Echo Base during the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire. It is a world of snow and ice, surrounded by numerous moons, and home to deadly creatures like the ferocious, carnivorous, white-furred species known as the Wampa, and the domesticated snow-lizards known as Tauntauns, used by the Rebel Alliance during their stay on the ice planet for patrol duties outside Echo Base.

It was there that an Imperial Probe Droid launched by the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer, reported the location of the Rebel base to the Imperial Navy. During a recon mission with his trusty Tauntaun, Commander Luke Skywalker spotted the Probe Droid crash and, believing it to be a meteorite, went closer to investigate. On his way, Luke was attacked by a hungry Wampa, hurt and dragged off into a cave before he could get a closer look. Han Solo eventually went off to search for Luke during a harsh snowstorm, in spite of the concern from his comrades. Han eventually found Luke and saved him from a certain death by slitting open the belly of a dead Tauntaun and placing Luke inside the stinking (but warm) carcass.

Vader and his fleet of Star Destroyers whom soon arrived in Hoth's orbit, deployed a large invasion force to the planet's surface, that included monstrous AT-AT Walkers, resulting in a crushing Rebel defeat. This was known as the Battle of Hoth, and those rebels lucky enough to survive the battle evacuated the planet.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Having given a quick prelude to some of the events that took place in Hoth,and without any further ado here is then the various Hoth related collectibles I've gathered so far. These are from different companies such as Gentle Giant Ltd, Sideshow Collectibles, Kotobukiya and others. Any future Hoth acquisitions will be added to this group. I'll start things up with the magnificent Probe Droid by Sideshow Collectibles ...
