Lieutenant Callahan - VC#351

I’m curious why someone would buy this forgettable character without also getting the ship
Not everybody collects vehicles. I'm actually primarily an action figure collector, only buying the very occasional vehicle. I have tons of pilot figures with no ships to go with them.

That said, I actually am getting the E-Wing. But even if I wasn't, I'd still buy the Lt. Callahan figure.

Some people may like pilots and might want to get all pilot figures.
Some people may want to get any New Republic characters, because there are basically none.
Some people may like female figures, which are still (relatively) rare.
Some people may like the "Ahsoka" show and want to get all figures from that.
Some people may want to use it for customs.
Some people are straight up completists.

Is that enough?
For sure for sure. I just find TVC real estate so rare that I think they should’ve just included her with the ship and saved a carded basic slot for someone more significant.

Carded or not, it still remains to be seen if she'll be in main line or an excl. somewhere. So a slot, as we all frequently do worry about, may not be affected at all.

My guess is that they knew people were also going to want that Kenner-esque droid, so they were in a position of having to choose between two options as the pack-in.

And since the droid is (arguably) the more popular choice, they stuck the droid in the ship to drive up sales.

Just my speculation, of course, but it makes sense.

This figure doesn't need to be a basic assortment release, how about tossing her in the deluxe line with a repack of the droid? It might actually feel like it's worth the $28, compared to Luke with a bunch of frogs. The droid is only 5 POA, so it shouldn't be any more expensive to produce than the massiff that came packed with the deluxe female Tusken.

I'm plenty interested in more Pilots, just not ST looking ones. I can easily put any OT/EU pilot into the E-Wing. That said, if she features a removable helmet than I can always head swap it onto a base figure that I do like. Side note, I really hope this isn't a foreboding that a future 4-pk of Pilots is all ST themed attire.
I think there would be enough utility that you could work it with both OT and ST. That being said, ST pilots are among the least offensive of the potential ST figures and just about the only ones I would entertain getting simply because you can still use them in a OT setting and make up a 'story' to justify it.

If I had to venture a guess, Hasbro will release this figure the same way they released the ship. Preorders for a month and then a limited fan channel/exclusive release. Would be nice if they did the same for the droid. I'd like to display one with the ship and keep one carded but I am not buying 2 ships to accomplish that goal.

They won't release the droid by itself. They just won't.

It's interesting discussion, after all we get the same kind of pushback for people wanting Sim Aloo. In all reality he's a background nobody just as much as Callahan is. There are countless wish lists of obscure characters that seem no more integral than Callahan. With Callahan it does open up possibilities for other Female ST era Pilots, if Hasbro actually releases them, being that they've sat on that new Luke mold for five years and haven't reused it for anyone else. since...

What possible reuse does Sim have? Or Peli? Or Frog Lady? or S2 Migs? or Burg? etc. the list could go on for pages. It's a tough job for Hasbro to choose any blink and miss character, they either pick a Yarna and Gragra or an easy peasy one that has extended reuse potential for them.

In a perfect world they'd offer two Pilot packs, one OT and the other whatever themed. If not more, but I get that there are budget constraints to how many sets can be done annually.

Yeah but he's a high ranking rebel officer pilot and people love pilots. Meanwhile this one is a generic astromech I didn't know existed and lord knows we have enough of those. But hey if Hasbro wants to release toys why should I argue with them.
That being said, combining him with the X-Wing was also probably the best way to get the Blue Squadron X-Wing as well. I had nothing to complain about with the arrangement than they should have packed the droid in too.

FYI Jayson commented on a Facebook post that she will be announced "soon" so I'd expect either London MCM or 1027. Guessing the former.
...curious if she'll be a lone reveal or other reveals w/ her

I'm hoping she ships soon after the announcement, similar to how Pulse Con figures are handled. They announced her in the pipeline many months ago. With many current pre-orders slated to ship in mid to late 2025, it would be a nice surprise to have her ship much sooner to coincide with the pending E-Wing release.

^ Mainline case slots are already spoken for into the Spring. The next available two slots are in the Fan Channel wave with Evazan and Snowtrooper.

The only way to get her sooner is if she's a Pulse or other kind of exclusive. I don't recall if they specified when she was pipelined.

well, there is "CON EXCL 3"....maybe there was a production delay thus not mentioned at, or for SDCC or NYCC. Then again, London MCM and 1027 are a few days away.....Callahan in the FC wave seems fitting, character-wise, but not timed well w/ E-wing release. (something Hasbro still needs improving)

...or hasbro "forgot" to reveal her already thinking they did already (only pipelined). but in seriousness, i suspect part of FC wave w/ Dr E and Frosty (now that would've been a cool codename for Snowtrooper rather than "Denver", joined by "Baconator" aka Dr. E- he does have a pig nose, sorta-kinda, "Wendy" for Callahan and "Dave" for Kenobi (legend) or Maudalorian..assuming these complete the FC wave-- for surprise non pipelined...."Big Mac" for Pong Krell, "McFlurry"....Ilum Padme, "McNugget"...dalmation Ewok ..FINALLY, and "Grimace" for Adm Holdo...all exclusive w/ McDonald's happy meals

Those adult Happy Meals at McDonalds are very difficult to track down. They are always sold out!!!! ;)

Anyways, I am curious about this figure, but not in a super huge rush. Anybody can pilot the E-Wing for me in the meantime.

speaking of codenames, i wonder why hasbro just dont skip the middleman and just use these..."Five", "TJ", "Ross" "Ollie" etc for some items

I would suspect 1027 as that's a direct Hasbro thing and her ship is a Pusle item.
While MCM London is likely more "obscure" to most not to mention will not be streamed from what I hear.

Very curious to see if she will be an all new sculpt or be a partial retool from X-wing Luke.
Same here, probably more interested in this reveal for that very reason over others because I kind of expect what those will be/look like. Second will be Chewie because I want to see how much better/dynamic he'll look in poses! Han is Han, he'll look the same as he always does, just better head sculpt with hopefully the best likeness ever.

have they ever done a single-carded figure as a Pulse exclusive?
sorta, they were shared exclusives though. Merrick's droid (shared w/ other fan channel), and Holiday Chewie (shared w/ disney store) are 2 i can think of off hand. But a solo excl? Hmmm......been a while, and under the Hasbro toyshop name......McQ Luke, McQ Ben/Yoda, TLC "smiley face" Luke,
