Everyone is probably familiar with this image from the ROTJ card back, but I'm wondering if this Lando with white boots figure was ever actually released? Does anyone have one of these?
The Squid Head with black cape (and gold belt) is a prototype. I believe it's in the collection of Gus Lopez, but not 100% sure about that.
I guess the Lando is also a prototype with unpainted boots. There are several prototypes on the cardbacks, you can also see the Bib Fortuna on this cardback comes with a red robe, which is also a well known protptype.
John's description of this piece really holds true when saying, “Provenance is key with a piece like this since it's a fairly easy to fake piece so never buy one unless it comes from a reputable source.” This is a very commonly reproduced figure. Make sure there doesn’t seem to be any paint in the joints or down in the “valleys” of the figure’s sculpt. Also look for signs of chemical damage of scratch marks from paint removal.
Also look and see what other items the seller may have. If it’s a red cape Squid head and this Lando raise the red flag.
The red Bib and black caped Squidhead both came from a Kenner photographer(obtained through Tom Derby). Although the red Bib might be more famouse, I think there are actualy more authentic red coat Bib Fortunas than black caped Squidheads. The Lando Skiff with unpainted legs is a first shot(obtained through Hollywood Heroes).
