Utinni do you lighten your photos? Or where do you get them from? They all seem brighter and show more detail than screencaps from the movie.

I do 2 things. First, I watch videos in VLC, where I can adjust the darkness levels (I suppose other players can do that too but I found VLC:Mac to work the best for me) and then second, I lighten them up in Preview. Most of my shots are screencaps. I don't have the amazing photo archive you seem to have.
I focus on one detail that I want to see and play around until I get the best view of it. Usually, adjusting SHADOWS is enough, but sometimes changing the tone/tints helps.

*******

That Black and White shot of the interior is amazing! My favourite shot of the group. That last shot looks right out of the movie!:p

Actually this pic I never saw before:

That bust.....wow.....hmmm....need to find a place for that. If I had known this I would have changed part of the interior...dammmnnnn.

Wow neat, never noticed that either but now that I have I found a really great shot of it in this video at @ the 50:00 mark when Leia smashes Jabbas speaker, unfortunately computer problems prevent me from making a screen capture at the moment. :/

edit problem solved ;)

That's amazing! I can't wait to see the "night time" shot with the interior lights showing through.

I just want to say I appreciate the fact that you stuck with it and got it finished! This forum is stuffed FULL of threads that looked so promising and just seemed abandoned, sometimes just as they were getting interesting. The massive scope of this project at the start, well, I would have bet that you dropped it and forgot about it a long time ago! Thanks and I hope you enjoy this piece for a long time. You earned it!

Now on with the sails and masts. Bought some brass parts to bend them like I need them:

Added to the masts:

Dyeing some fabric (pictured with paper pattern). I searched long for a thin and proper cotton fabric to use. I also did some experiments on aging that sails. They were treated with water plus joiner's glue to make them stiffer.

I have found a solution to it now. But it takes a lot of time. i had to remove the brass bars and wash it with acetone. I needed 5-6 hours to fiy this mess....done for now.. :/

Looks amazing so far!
Bummer about the setback. I think they needed to be painted before you attached them.

Thanks again for 1] showing your mistakes so we can learn from them, and 2] showing your tools in the pics as well. I find it really helpful.

The idea was to have the bars perfectly matching and accurate. That's why I shortened them after glued to the sails. It was perfect fitting and the sails were non wavy at all. Now its a mess of course....pulling I apart again changes the dimensions of the fabric. Anyway....next time i would paint I first.....and just touch up the cutted ends. The pics only show the sails before I ruined them. Anyway.....you learn something new everyday.....sometimes its the hard way....hahaha

This is absolutely fantastic! I love your attention to detail and careful execution of every piece of this beauty. The Sail Barge has always been my most wanted Star Wars vehicle/playset that never got made into a toy officially. I hope to see the finished product soon!

I love this Barge too. I've been following the thread for a while, hoping for an update. I would love to see it beside the official Barge once it is released.

Hey there Wbobafett,
There have not been any updates for 2 years. I do hope you are not disillusioned for hasbro making the sail barge after all.
Your version is better, has more details and is by far more creative.
I even think your project may even have given a push to them for giving it a try.
I do hope - and many with me- that you will finish the project with the painting and all. Your thread is like a book with many volumes, it takes years to follow it up to the end.
Believe in what you started, it really is worth the effort in many ways.
Cheers,

It would be cool to see what the finished Barge he made looked like and see it side-by-side next to Hasbro's. The amount of detail he put into his Barge was simply astounding and quite impressive.

Hooray! I think it’s obvious to everyone that Haz was VERY inspired by what you did. There are so many design similarities. You blazed a TRAIL! I think you personally literally may have changed the hobby.

Life happens (gulp). But stuff like this, through the years (and maybe even more relevant the more years) is really inspiring!

This is all so utterly magnificent. Wirklich wunderbar!
You created such an amazing display for the yet-to-be-painted Khetanna.
I am - and we all are - very glad you keep going.
But you will need a small spycam to visit the interiors after finishing...
