I read about this item a while ago on The SWCA, and I recently found this vintage Italian advertisement that has the same display on it. I thought it was interesting that the one in the ad has text on it about a free Rancor Keeper figure offer that isn't on the one on the SWCA. It was a "buy 5 figures and get a Rancor Keeper free" type offer, plus apparently you would be entered in a drawing to win all 61 figures, if Google Translate hasn't steered me wrong. Unfortunately the text below the picture doesn't seem to mention the display at all. Do these things ever come up for sale? Would I need to sell a kidney to get one if they did? It would be a fantastic centerpiece to my Jabba focus.

If that ad is real ,it's a phenomenal find. The Jabba background sold at a large well known auction several years ago. It is the only one known .To date very little is known about it. It was probably a store display but may have been only a prototype or even a mailer.

I love how they threw the wampa in there lol. That's a nice poster though.

The text on the ad (which I ran through Google Translate and cleaned up slightly to get rid of the biggest grammatical oddities) is below:

(Text at the top)
A GIFT FOR YOU
ANSWER YOU KNOW

(Text on the display itself)
If you buy 5 figures, get a RANCOR KEEPER as a gift.
And also you can win the 61 stars of Star Wars.
Details through TOPOLIMO or at this store.

(Text at the bottom)
THE HEROES OF STAR WARS
To relive the emotions of the most famous space movies, use the great characters of Star Wars distributed by General Mills. The packages to play Star Wars can be found for sale in the best toy stores, department stores, and toy departments. You can, however, also attending will win if you know answer!
I'm not sure about the last sentence, but as I say it doesn't make a direct reference to the display.

Wow! That is really cool! I don't think I've ever seen that background before! I wish I could offer you more information, but that is really cool! Hopefully you get some answers on this thread!

Didn't even see the little green guy up there at first.

I wonder who set that display up. Obviously not any one who knew what was going on. Looks like Chewie is decked out in a jacket. The chief has borrowed Logray's staff. And also there are multiples of Luke and Han.
Yup. Lots of thought went into that setup.:wtf:

I'll bet Chewie is wearing 3PO's backpack. B)

Yep:)

As mentioned it was available at the Premier Collectible Auction back in July 2008. It had a starting bid of $5000, with an estimate of $8000-$10000.

It did sell, I cannot find my list of sold items from that auction so im not sure on the price it reached(I'm sure someone will chime in)

A very cool display, thats for sure!

Only one of these displays is known, so you could track it down...

A very cool and awesome advertisment you have found, it shows the display to be quite different to the display that is on the archive.

Great find! Im sure not many have seen the advertisment before! So thanks for sharing.

That's a nice photo to share.

The display itself does look a little Blue Peter* and is probably something Wolff could easily knock up in a morning!

Is it an 'official' Kenner product though or just something that was homemade as a one-off for the advert photo shoot?

*Blue Peter is a childrens TV show in the UK where they frequently show kids how to build dioramas and things out of milk bottle tops and cardboard boxes, etc

I've seen it in person!

Thanks for the picture! Now that I see a clearer picture of the one from the SWCA, I can tell that the version in my ad is very different in several ways, aside from the text advertising the Rancor Keeper offer at the top. In the ad, there's no rancor pit in front of Jabba's throne and the floor is completely different, and while the walls are similar, the pattern doesn't match up between the two versions. That's pretty interesting.

The ad is very cool thanks for sharing, I never knew there were any for the Italian Jabba display but with it being a promotional piece I guess it makes sense lol!

Are you going to frame it?

You're nuts Josh. That scene is EXACTLY as I remember it LOL

I would love to get that, its such an awesome piece. This is my grail item, but if I could I would scan it so others could have such a brilliant piece

I was thinking the same thing. I've never thought it was a practical display for a toy store and have wondered if it was a one of a kind, and seeing this add I thought maybe it was made for this photo shot?

For you who have seen the display IRL, did it look factory printed or more home made?

Neat stuff no matter what! Cool to see an advert with it!

Assuming Google Translate is correct, the text on the display from the ad says:

Details through TOPOLINO or at this store.

TOPOLINO is a magazine, and I'm guessing it's the magazine that the ad originally came from. The "this store" verbiage implies to me that it was actually used in stores. And we know there were at least 2 of these made, since the version from the ad is totally different from the one sold at auction. It's possible the one in the ad was a prototype or something.

Yes, Jabba definitely have some interesting guest on this picture; An ERG, a BSG, Death Star Droid, Ben Kenobi, Admiral Ackbar, Logray, Chief Chirpa, but of cause the Wampa tops them all. :)
