Indiana Jones Retro Collection (New)

With Hasbro letting Super7 do O-Ring GI Joe figures for their Cobra Mothership, I really wonder if they would be open to letting that company complete at least our Retro Indiana Jones collections. I could for some reason see Brian Flynn being cool with this and finally getting us that much coveted Flying Wing and maybe another go at that Well of Souls Playset and maybe that altar scene from Temple of Doom!

GI Joe is a Hasbro-owned brand that they license to Super7.

Indiana Jones is a Lucasfilm-owned brand that they license to Hasbro.

Hasbro can't license Indiana Jones to Super7 any more than Super7 could license GI Joe to someone else.

Im sure this is a possibility. Anything is possible.
The question is would S7 be interested.

Super 7 have done LFL properties before. Im sure IJ is now a dormant licence to Hasbro, so maybe they wouldnt be opposed to another company using it.

I was meaning to say Disney. Super7 does do toys for other Disney licenses. I don’t remember where I heard it at, but Disney is supposed to be adding some new Indiana Jones Attractions and Rides in their parks. I’m sure that like the new Tron Lightcycle Ride they might do an Exclusive Action Figure Release and Super7 was who made that happen. I’m not saying it’s going to be easily affordable to come by but at least it will be there for those of us wanting such things.

Yes, they seem to have a building g partnership. They sold Tron ReAction figures exclusively at the new ride's merch shop, 3 Black Hole figures, and even Lucasfilm's Willow figures in 2 waves. I don't hold out hope for Indy, though, with a Retro line from this year.

This would go for either 6" Adventure series or retro, but it would be great to see a couple Park exclusive 3 packs for 6" like Hasbro did for Galaxys Edge 3 pack black series. Hasbro product that are the same line as the public line, but Park exclusive. Sell and Adventure land Indiana Jones gift shop exclusive set. They could do a couple Indy retro box sets as park exclusives, like the Star Wars retro box sets that Disney Parks/ShopDisney have. Make them available all the time at the parks and sell a million, rather than giving it to Target that will clearance them out in a few weeks.

I hope they will do something. Its probably unlikely since there is tons of existing product thye can sell. But lets hope.
I would even want some kind of a repaint. Something like an Indy/Horse pack would be good for me even.

Six figures in a box. Proably a mix of the Target figures rereleased and new figures.

Having the boxes themed to a movie could leave Raiders fairly boring but gets interesting with Temple of Doom.

A box set also would allow for potential peg warmer figures (like Mon Mothma in Star Wars) to get made.

Ive been picking up extras since they are becoming so cheap now. I love these Retro Indys, for me its such an iconic figure. They are going to go even cheaper Im sure.
Where have you seen these at cheap? Looks like all the ones at Targets near me are all sold out after they clearanced them. They went pretty fast.

I saw several ROTLA Indys at a Go! Toy store today. $15.99, and no other Retro figures with him (quite a few Adventure 6" figures, though.)

I haven't seen any Retros at any discounters. That might be something that pops up next Christmas or 2025.

EE has single ROTLA retro's available. They come from Hasbro in a small solid case of 4 of the same figure in each case. I have a few of each I bought just to get nice cards. Indy is now showing sold out, but the others are available from that wave. Belloq ceremonial shows restocking soon. They never got Temple of doom retros but do show Indy last crusade as coming soon. Hasbro sometimes puts numbers on their cases and I can sometimes decipher how many figures have been made but none this time. My guess would be, It will most likely be next year if we see any at Ollies or others... 😺

Well, Indiana Jones Adventure series is now on clearance on Hasbro Pulse. Still not as cheap as during the black friday sales, but...

By no means a follower of the channel, I saw this on my YouTube feed offering an interesting look at what Kenner had planned for the further adventures of Indy, which I wished had happened. One of the character concepts looks rather familiar to a similarly proposed continuation of Star Wars....

Given the extreme low figure run for this series (10 figures), who thinks it would have worked better if they did the original 9-figure run from ROTLA (or 11 if they added carded Monkey Man and Map Room Indy)? Getting 2 figures from TOD and 3 from TLC just seems inadequate.

I posted that exactly way back. It would have been a smart move by them, They don't make smart moves though at hasbro.

But it is each to their own. I wanted a TOD Indiana above almost anything else. So I definitely wouldn't want Cairo Swordsman etc at the expense of TOD Indy and other new figures.

I hear you. My first choice would have been updating the 2008 fully-articulated figures, give us a decent run, and put them on the vintage cards. Second choice would have been a 'full' run of retro figures - all previous ROTLA (and Captain Katanga - a glaring omission in ALL lines), all main TOD, TLC, KOTCS, and some DOD, all on vintage cards. Either line could have been about 50 figures easily.

I don't think anyone really got what they wanted, including the 6" collectors. The Adventure series could have been titled "Indiana Jones and the Guys in Suits" since they were so afraid of depicting any real villains.

Which is comical since all we heard during the 2008 line was how Hasbro was afraid of doing "guys in suits" for that line. Which is why we never got a lot of important characters like Donovan, Marcus, Professor Indy, non-Ceremonial Belloq, LC Sallah, etc. etc. etc.

Balance is important ;)
I think its one thing Hasbro really didnt get right.

Personally Im really happy they delivered some of the major characters that they might not have done like Brody, Belloq in suit, Indy Club Obi-Wan and Professor Indy. But if they were going to do those I wish they windened the range to make sure they included Mola Ram, henchmen and soldiers (though there was a different reason they didnt do Mola Ram clearly).

The fact that Adventure Series has basically no villains, or at least villains for Indy to actually, you know, fight with is really disheartening. Oh, well. I'll have to console myself with my dozen German soldiers, German mechanic, Chief Thuggee and half-dozen Thuggee guards from the 2008 line.

Edited to add:

Oh, and the Cairo thugs. And the Russians, too.

Thought this was the place to ask a few questions of retro collectors.
  • What draws you to the 3.75" scale? (Could be Star Wars too not just IJ) (I assume it's rereleases of figures you had as a kid?)
  • Do you feel that $15 at the time of release was too much compared to say $25 for a 6" figure with more accessories/articulation?
  • Do you think Hasbro should have focused on either the Retro or the Adventure Series? I assume most folks judging by comments are disheartened by the lack of certain characters just as the adventure series collectors are. Though some of the gaps of the Retro Line did get a release in 6" Donovan, Belloq in a suit, etc. Meanwhile the Retro line had some figures the adventure series didn't like the German Mechanic. Parity would have been nice and I imagine 3.75" are cheaper to produce than 6" which probably makes it a harder pill to swallow?
  • Both lines also have a difference in packaging. Do you prefer carded figures or do you prefer the PFP?

I appreciate the PFP. Though I understand the appeal of displaying carded figures on pegs and some folks have really impressive collections where it looks like a part of their house/room looks like a well-stocked store. I thought the PFP boxes of the 6" figures were pretty well done with some great artwork. They do take up more space but I do like being able to put them back in a box if I want to sell them down the road.

For another example I have Hasbro's three No Way Home Spider-Men on preorder along with Ock. (I'll probably pick Goblin up as well).

S6ca825186bb842f7b474831efe4452e4S.jpg_640x640Q90.jpg_.webp

Goblin comes in a box, while the Spider-men are carded which means if you want to pose them fighting Goblin you have to crack open the card...or buy doubles.

Anyway just was curious what people thought.

1. 3.75" line for the world-building, accessory-interacting aspect. With 3.75" you get horses (beasts for SW), vehicles, playsets, etc., that would be too big/costly for 6" scale.

2. Both were too much. 3.75" should have been $9.99, 6" no more than $19.99.

3. Both scales are good in that they meet different collector's needs. I would have preferred a modern 3.75" (like 2008) on retro cards, but that's just me. They may have saved money due to using the same digital files for both scales. 6" should have easily had 50 figures. 3.75" retro should have done all the 1982 figures, plus at least 5 from each of the other movies. Both were inadequate releases.

4. The PFP for 6" was okay, but those that open figures couldn't get a look at paint applications before purchasing. My only beef with the 6" packaging was the Brody/Belloq 2-pack, which gives you a box that can't be displayed behind the figure because you can only show one side at a time. So it makes display/storage a little more difficult.

5. The blisters on the retro line were okay. Most modern figures use blisters that are too big to display all the pieces. You can pack a lot into a small space. Just look at the 2011 SW Vintage Collection Emperor's Royal Guard. They say they want to limit plastic use, then do that.

Just use the 2008 villains with Adventure Series Indy and pretend he was zapped with an enlarging ray by some mad scientist.

Indiana Jones and the Science of Tomorrow.

thanks for the reply! I can certainly agree with many of your points.

The only way we get horses/etc. for 6" is if you find something from elsewhere. I had been looking at the Mythic Legions Boreus Horse for a horse for Indy.

boreus-front-right.jpg

It's 6" but I am not sure how it would work with Indy. It's not cheap at $75

The issue I had with PFP was when I ordered a figure from Amazon? Someone had done the old swap job.

That horse will be enormous compared to Indy.

I prefer to see the action figure when displaying MOCs. However, I think Hasbro did an amazing job with the PFP packaging for Indy. The art and graphic design was very well done. I also appreciate the map in the background as well as the matte finish of the background and the glossy/varnish spots.

Understandable. Agreed with the design of the Indy boxes. I also liked that they put a map on the bags that the figures came in. It may not seem like much, but it was a cool additional detail.

Was at some sort of weird salvage/surplus one off shop today while I was an hour away from home dropping off some GI Joes and found a Retro Sallah and Henry Jones Sr, moc for $5 each. Slightly curved cards, status quo, and a crack in one bubble. Grabbed them both for posterities sake.

Does anyone think is we got down on our knees and begged and pleaded we could talk Hiya Toys into getting a license from Lucasfilm Disney and doing a 1:18th Indiana Jones line?

I bought this horse, and a black one, and am really impressed. Perfect size, just need to make a blanket for it. This is a bad pic for scale but it works well.

That doesn't look too bad. Would you have a Raider's Indy that you might be able to seat on it? It doesnt look bad here though. If you can I'd appreciate it! If not that's ok too.

Thanks!
