Indiana Jones Adventure Series

I finally stumbled across a figure that I think will work for my Pat Roach character customs, particularly the Giant Thuggee. I looked at some GIJoe Classified figures but I really hate the cut on their waist joints. This is a John Silver wrestling figure only $4 at Ross.

Height looks good with Temple Indy, I think. The head he comes with actually bears a resemblance to the Giant Thuggee too (2 on the left, but I already sourced a better one (right)

Here’s what I came up with for the German mechanic and chief thuggee guard, both using gung ho from gi Joe. He’s got the perfect bald head and mustache for the mechanic but is more muscular than he should be but close enough. But I see what you mean about the joint. For the chief guard I used the gung go body and the head from rock n roll from gi Joe as I thought the beard was a great match.

I think it’s cool to see the different solutions people come up with for making customs!

Very nice! What are those legs you used on the Thuggee? I'm soft goodsing mine but those look really good.

More power to you for doing softgoods! I tried and was like nope!!! And the first few attempts after softgoods didn’t work either until I came across the black series tython boba fett which has nice billowy looking pants. I think one of the other boba fetts uses the same pants but the tython one is pretty cheap if I recall.

Nice work on Crystal Skull Marion! I've debated doing some more from that film, but I'm really not feeling it. Spalko will have to be enough, I think.

Thank you! I really hadn’t planned on doing her but then I realized I pretty much had all the parts and it was a pretty easy custom apart from having to mix the paint.

Nice looking Marion and Thugee Chief Customs.

Also @ChibiSchmoo looks like a decent body. I tried Gung Ho as well. He will do for now. As noted above by @DarkKnight07 Gung Ho may be a bit too jacked/ripped. Hard to explain it. Roach was big, but he had more of that classic wrestler physique? Husky? Hard to explain it.

But I too used Gung Ho for now. I know Scott is working on a German Mech.

I'm still trying to think of what I can do with Locus from Great Circle. I really just need the head.

For all of you who are doing custom - and probably collect other Hasbro 6" line - do you know another peg neck figurine that coul be used for my TLC Indy's body?
Thank you

Wow, its been almost 4 months since I last posted Indy customs! Was attempting to make my 'Wave 6' all 'Raiders' since I realized I'd been neglecting that movie lately. It's been nearly done for awhile but I was held up looking for a head for Jock (going to a toy show next weekend, so hopefully will find something). I ended up bumping Jock for an Elsa I just did over the last couple days instead.

First up are the Cairo Swordsman and a German Soldier.

Cairo Swordsman is mostly a Renaldo figure underneath the robe with new feet. Turban top is from Sallah. The robes and sword are all scratch built. He's a little short, but standing across that plaza from Indy, who can tell?

The German Soldier sort of felt like an obligation I wasn't too excited about. But Indy needs these guys to beat up, so I powered through it. I was especially dreading making another set of web gear like I did for German Disguise Indy and I ran out of the better materials and buckles, so it ends up being a bit more simplified than I wanted. The uniform was sourced from 1/12 scale military figures, hat from Elsa, head from GI Joe Dusty (thanks, Wes!). He's sort of a mashup of different German uniforms from Raiders and Last Crusade, not really accurate to any particular one.

And next are Peru Jungle Belloq and Hatay Palace Elsa...

I'd been attempting the Belloq for awhile. I thought he'd be soft goods at first, then switched to plastic, and when those parts didn't work out - back to soft goods. The pants were altered from some 1/12 military ones, but I couldn't find a shirt that would work, so had to scratch build one. What a pain at this scale! Hope to never have to do it again. It fits a little janky around the shoulders, but gets the job done. The next problem was the pith helmet. The one I ordered from Monkey Depot was way too large, so I had to again scratch build something. I was able to use Toht's hat brim, upside down, for that piece then did sculpey + ribbon for the top piece. Unfortunately, one of the legs broke towards the end, so he's a little fragile.

Hatay Palace Elsa was just done over the last couple days. Don't remember this outfit? She shows up for all of 10 seconds in the movie in it and says one line. But I always thought it was one of her cooler looking outfits - sort of a Femme Fatale Flight Attendant. I also had a hatless Elsa head and some Marion bodies sitting around that needed to be put to good use, so it was a perfect fit. The Marion torso and arms were carved down to remove all the detail, then I added the outfit's signature blue details with little cut out vinyl pieces. Added some bare legs from a Stranger Things Eleven figure (thanks, Wes!) and Helena's shoes. A fabric/vinyl dress goes over those up to the waist with a second layer simulating the bottom of the jacket. Hat was scratch built. I'd already assembled her head when I realized I forgot the scarf, so had to wrap and glue a little piece of cord around her neck; probably could have positioned it better if it went on before the head. There is no photo reference I've ever seen for her shoes or the back of the outfit, so I didn't put much effort into those.

As Belloq would say, "Again we see there is no character that has been created that Chibischmoo cannot make." Seriously, there's some incredible work here, very cool. I wish we'd gotten that Belloq in any scale.

Ha! Thanks, yodashizzle! If only that were true.

Yes, Belloq has always been a favorite of mine. He's a huge part of what makes Raiders so great for me. When I first mulled over doing this Indy custom project it was a pretty modest (short) list of figures I thought to do, but Peru Belloq was always one of them. Thought he'd get done much sooner though!

The thing that makes it difficult is that Hasbro can be inconsistent. Even figures in the adventure series itself can vary in terms of pegs/etc.

Great work as always! And yeah I felt a bit weird when I made Vogel. Especially the red arm band. As you said, though? Indy needs punchable ugly mugs.

Thanks, Wes!

Oh, my comment about hesitancy on the German soldier had nothing to do with their nature as Nazis. I just find them completely uninteresting visually and they've got some technically difficult parts I don't enjoy. So my creative inspiration was low. Yet, they're certainly needed to 'represent' the films.

Here's a bonus figure to share - the Giant Thuggee Guard I had mentioned above after finding the wrestling figure to use for his body.

Not too much to say on this one as everything is scratch built except the body and head (1/12 military). I did get lazy with the weapons - skipped the sword since he isn't wearing it during the fight with Indy, and I stole the dagger from my earlier Thuggee Slaver figure for this photo instead of making a second.

With completing this one, I have made more Indy customs than Hasbro made official figures.

BBTS charged me for Toht, so I guess I'll have him sometime next week.

So now that the figure is out in the wild, do you think any third parties will sell a tiny little sticker for us to put on his lapel pin? I thought some of the military figure companies might have something. That's awfully small though.

And it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway: of course I don't want anything to do with the ideology of the symbol. Like any toy collector, I'm only interested in movie accuracy.

So back in late 2022 when these figures were announced I reached out to Monkey Depot to see if they have tiny little stickers that could go on Toht's lapel.

The fact that Hasbro took the time to sculpt the pin but left it white is the whole reason I even bothered. If they hadn't have sculpted anything and just left the lapel blank, I'd have been fine with that. But that white little circle on the field of black just draws the eye right to it. I wanted to fix it. I wanted to make it movie accurate.

Monkey Depot told me they carried no such item.

But thanks to @DarkKnight07 I discovered many years later that they do, in fact, carry those items. And very affordable, too.

So many years later, I have finally "completed" Toht by giving him his historically accurate German "broken cross" lapel pin.

I've seen a lot of really great customs made to fill in the gaps that Hasbro left.

Has anyone made a Mystery of the Blues Indy?

I think I saw a Mystery of the Blues Indy somewhere in this thread when I was going through it for inspiration. If I find it again, I'll add a link to this post.

So my 'Wave 7' is finished and the end of this project is in sight! While I'd like to wrap it all up by the end of the year, I'm still looking for heads for two figures, so it will probably take a bit longer.

First up are Lao Che and Cairo Sallah in his white suit from Raiders.

Lao Che is mostly Club Obi Wan Indy with Marcus's arms (just to get a darker color to paint over). Head is from Syndicate Customs. It gets the job done, but looks a bit too young, I think. His jacket is supposed to have some embroidered(?) dragons all over it, but I couldn't think of a way to do that effect here - maybe the one spot an official Hasbro figure could have really gone the extra mile (they had all the parts for this, otherwise).

Cairo Sallah was made from remainders of figures I had to buy to make Lao Che: Belloq's hat, pants, jacket; Club Obi Wan Indy's arms, Marcus's torso and tie. Truthfully, another Club Obi Wan jacket would probably be more accurate to the cut of the one wears in the film, but those figures are kinda pricier now, so Belloq's gets the job done. Had to scratch build a hankerchief and flower for the coat and hand draw the stripes on (they get kinda sloppy in parts but I think the overall effect works at a glance).

Next is a basic Thuggee Guard. I put off this one for a long time since I knew it would be time consuming after making one in 1/6 scale - fun though. He's a Renaldo figure underneath with a Belloq head. Everything else is pretty much scratch built. After making the Giant Thuggee Guard, I had a lot more confidence in doing the turbans, not to mention good materials for them that work. Overall, this is one of my favorites I've done in this project.

Lastly is the German Mechanic from Raiders. I finally stumbled across another wrestling figure to use for the body. Originally thought I'd just paint the pants, but it just didn't look right, so I constructed some fabric ones along with the boot spats and belt. Head is from Syndicate Customs.

Do you guys think the ToD Indy shares a right arm sculpt with the Dagobah Luke and The Stranger from Black Series? Looks pretty identical to me.
