Haven’t all VC vehicles up until now (and Khetanna) always been actual reboots of an original release, trying to recreate the original box artwork? I gather this will be the first one to be released that is “new” (not vintage) from OT, right?

Yeah, now that's what we need in the TVC line. I hope they have a Vader TIE as well.

(Rubs hands together) Good, good! A step in the right direction.

Possibly a definitive large-wing TIE... Dare to dream that H removed the floppy ejecting wings feature? Probably not, but either way I'll be getting a couple of these.

Hasbro, while you're in a TIE-sort of mood, how about Vader's advanced TIE? Give it the snowspeeder treatment -- Smaller and more accurate proportions, no green missiles!

So the Vintage TIE is just a re-release of the classic big wing TIE, but the Solo TIE is an all-new sculpt?

love the box art for the TIE Fighter, the red background reminds me of the old Kenner Falcon box.

Alright, now where's the Blue Squadron X-Wing?
IKR? No offense to TIE fans, especially those who want the "bigger" version. But how hard can it be to repaint an X-Wing, aren't repaints right up Hasbro's alley?
Gee wiz, you'd think we were asking for a brand new mold or something...

This incarnation of the TIE Fighter is a straight Vintage Collection re-pack of the Legacy Collection 'Shadows Of The Empire' TIE Fighter from 2009.

The only difference being is a new paint deco.

No tweaks or anything.

Screw nubbins are still there on the armatures and the outer cockpit ball hasn't been updated to a more accurate sculpt like the 'Solo' TIE Fighter. The wings are still far too large - 4 cockpit ***** in height rather than the more accurate just under 3.5 cockpit ***** height, and al the detailing is exactly the same as the 2009 version.

One step forward, two steps back by Hasbro/Disney again ...

Definitely a cool ship, I just hope the wings aren't floppy on this and are made of a solid plastic. I never got a shot at the big-winged TIE, so I guess this is as good an opportunity as any. It's a real shame it's not a new sculpt, but it's not like it looks inaccurate. The TVC box is a plus, but I can see why this would be a letdown to collectors who already have the old one. I was so pumped for this until I started reading all your comments on it, now I'm just lukewarm lol

This right here....this is why we just need ONE freaking line. So asinine, yet they made the wings small again on the SOLO one. Can they not get ANYTHING right? Hasbro has been on thin ice as it is, and they pull this move? Just plain stupid. The TVC Tie should be an all-new sculpt with tough wings that don't flop.

I was about to do a happy dance before my morning coffee/energy drink about the return of Shadows Of The Empire.... :D

The stub on the upper hatch is still there, which I could do w/o, even when opening the hatch....that's why I keep a cuticle on one of my fingers at some length for that. :p So are the screws on the wing supports, which could be have been retooled as sunk-in screws inside holes. IIRC, I even mentioned that on one of my critiques years ago, might be worth my time to dig through.

Lo and behold...here's my comment from a not so long time ago (5/2009) and in a galaxy the same as ours (but typed from a different older PC): :)

tongue.gif

I'm sure there's a way to internally keep the cockpit screwed together. But I'm relieved it took them a short 32 years to figure out the 'third' laser cannon.

One step forward, two steps back by Hasbro/Disney again ...

I'll give them a baby half-step forward for packaging at least, but 2.5 steps back personally based on the critiques.....result..... no difference in my attractiveness for it. :(

I would have preferred something other than a Tie Fighter. I like the Tie Fighter they made before. But give me Vader's Tie, Maul's Infiltrator, Grievous' ship, Tie Bomber, Naboo fighter, heck even the First Order Tie would have been nice. Maybe it's going to take a while for this line to get going.

Target had an exclusive TVC TIE Fighter with the smaller wings, but it was rarer and goes for a lot of money on EBAY now. I have one Target smaller winged version and two of the Legacy large wing TIE's, but if I see these in stores I will buy as many as I can for my collection and storage.

Does anyone have the Solo TIE Fighter Pictures to compare the cockpit ball to this one?

As much as I can understand the complaints to this release, it's worth trying to appreciate there's a whole new generation of collectors out there since the last era of VC/ decent vehicles. This will be my first time as a collector being able to get a large wing tie as through it's past release, I didn't even have a visa card to order it online! (Too young). While a redo would have been nice, just a chance to get a large wing TIE at a decent price brand new is welcome to some of us!
I think it's also a good reminder that the VC will not always be 'amazingly new'. Perhaps starting with a whole new weathered vehicle with a second one as a mail away/ crowdfunded piece has set some expectations too high. This is hasbro afterall. If they can get away with the easy route, they will. Not every ship we see will be new. This isn't necassarily bad either. To be given a shot at the VC snowspeeder, AT-AT, BMF or Gunship would be welcome to me as much as a VC U-Wing or other new ship.

Yeah, don't they always. :D Anyways, new collectors are truly getting a better iteration of this iconic vehicle. Others have had to wait decades for something as simple as a red flashing light to go away, but hey, we still played with it as a kid so who am I to complain. :)

But to play d-advocate for a bit, there's ALWAYS room for improvement, like it's almost finding myself being one of those comic book or Funkco collectors (saw the doc recently on Netflix) about defective corners with a mag glass. :p Are my expectations high, sure yeah, and I hope Hasbro maintains the same particularly within a subline that supported by fans with that attention for detail.

Laugh out loud! Sometimes when I read posts about figures it really seems like some people are putting the figures literally under a microscope and then getting upset because the button on the jacket is round instead of square or that the shirt is supposed to be Egg White but the figure's shirt is simply white.

Hmmm... I have neither the space nor funds - and I realise that this large winged TIE is not accurately scaled (as far as overly large Radial panels are concerned) - however: it still looks great, and am finding myself sorely tempted by this release!

:p just when I thought I was done with Hasbro - they reel me back in! :D

LOL too!....substitute the word 'the movies' from 'figures' and the same could be said regarding the Sequel Trilogy/Spin-off movie discussions. :) Anyway, my TIE 'rant' is done for now... :D

I like this release a lot! The color seems to be pretty accurate. And it's got the more accurate cockpit along with the ejector seat. While the TLC version had *MOST* of those features going for it, it also had the red cockpit glass. That's a feature that I wasn't a fan of. I also like the deco on the pilot's helmet. I hope they don't push the price point too high.

I didn't have enough room for vehicles when I started get back into figures so I kept to just the pilots I needed. I know a lot of these repacks have annoyed people but I've found them to be great since I never had most of the figures or vehicles. I real TIE with big wings will be nice for me. I picked up the TFA TIE but I might get rid of that now. I hadn't had a TIE since the POTJ Interceptor... which my mom made me sell at a garage sale. Thanks mom.

That's a very reasonable approach. One of the weaknesses of the modern line has been that there often is not a reasonable entry point more than twice a decade. In the Kenner days, there was not a time when you could not get any of the core figures, or a Falcon, X-Wing or TIE, for that matter. Granted, it is a larger Saga in the Hasbro era, but you might go a couple of years without seeing a Chewbacca on the pegs, or a half-dozen without a Lando.

I believe Jedi Temple Archives mentioned $83. Good luck with that.

I was about to point out how scared I am at what the price point will be, and yeah that’s pretty bad. Will not be buying this at full price. I really want to support this line, but I can’t if they keep issuing repacks and overpriced vehicles.

Yeah not a chance I'm buying that for full price. Worth $40 at most. Nothing more, nothing less. Quality starfighters should be expected to be priced around that. For $83, I can get the overly detailed hover tank..albeit without a figure. Something has gotta give here, Hasbro. They screw themselves with their piggish inflated prices which CAUSE collectors to hold out, not buy immediately, stores complain to Hasbro about clogged product, then collectors get blamed for not buying it. They have to realize they do this to THEMSELVES! These prices are exorbitant and not worth what they are actually selling. There is no way that a regular TIE fighter sells for $50 and gets a $30 markup not even 10 years later. $60 would have been much more fair, but still high for what the product is.

Exactly the reason I didn't buy the first time around, the red glass definitely put me off. It kind of looks cool, but I'd rather have the Star Wars accuracy, not comics or EU.

Box art wise I would have liked the background blue like the original TIE fighter.

Interesting suggestion. I love orange backdrops on toy packaging (see Galoob's SW Micro Machines / Action Fleet), but your suggestion would have been a nice nod to the 1978 TIE Fighter packaging. Secondly, with the scenery they used, it would have also doubled as a Lothal Hangar with the blue evening sky. A nod to the show that used the 1978 Kenner TIE Fighter as the base for their standard TIE Fighter design. Mind blown.

The Walmart BS AT-ST had an initial retail price at approximately $60.00 so this being around $80 is believable sadly. Not sure these will pegwarm though all the way to clearance, we'll see.

Since that one was used for the target excl., the vintage battle damaged art may have been cool especially if removable b.d. stickers were included. Actually, the b.d. art work and stickers may not be needed, just the asteroid background

If it truly is $83 bucks then I'll be passing hard. I like it but I don't $83 like it.
